How many presents will your kids get?

I know everyone is different and there's no right or wrong on this at all but I just find it interesting. How many presents will your DC get roughly, from everyone combined? My 3.5 year old will probably get 22 from everyone and my 15 month old (will be 19 at Xmas) will get about 12. This will include books and a new hoodie each. This is excluding stockings but we don't do stocking sacks, we do stockings with socks, toothbrushes etc.

Last year my ds (just turned 2) got around 40/45 from us, family and friends. The number 40 sounds ridiculous but they weren’t all big bits so it didn’t feel like too much at the time if that makes sense. He tends to get around 20 on his birthdays.

Usually get 10-12 each, but as they get older & ergo gifts pricier that will reduce.

Cherryrainbow · 31/08/2020 10:58

Whatever I can get with my budget :) I find as my son gets older the present pile looks smaller due to size and expense of things. It's amazing how bulky stuff for toddlers and babies are! I also buy throughout the year for bargains to make most of it - I take the bought at price from my budget not the rrp.

Atm my son has about 11 items, then there are 5 £1 stocking fillers all the boys are going to get the same of (my ohs son and nephew as well) I cant see me buying more than 5 other items between now and xmas - definitely planning a scooter, then will have about £30 left when xmassy gift set stuff starts coming out in b&m, primark etc.

To give an idea me and oh are spending about £130 on each of our boys this year and they are 7 and 6 years old. So you can imagine how much tends to get spent on things when one is really into gaming and the other is really into lego!

I've already planned for us to spend about £100 on birthdays/xmas for our daughter next year who will be 1 by then - having had a browse through stuff online for fun it looks like on average that would get about 7 items. I found I went overboard when my son was younger and it took ages for him to unwrap stuff cos he would get bored or want to play with what he just opened. Now hes older my buying is more intentional towards his interests. I plan to do the same with the new baby due to experience lol x

Lazypuppy · 31/08/2020 10:58

My dd gets 3 from us, then maybe 1 from other family members, so maybe 10 in total

formerbabe · 31/08/2020 11:01

Two dc...will be ten and twelve

They each have a stocking which usually has about fifty gifts in each...these are small items though..sometimes just sweets, packs of gum for eldest, stationery, books, hair bands Tec

Then I do about four or five gifts each to go under the tree.
They will have gifts from family and friends too.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 31/08/2020 11:02

4or 5 from us, plus stockings.
Matssice family, so that adds up... But we coordinate so it's practical stuff not just toys (so dressing gowns, school bags, vouchers for days out...)

InDubiousBattle · 31/08/2020 11:02

40 ish. We get them 15-20 and they have around 15 other people that buy for them.

Thinkpinkstink · 31/08/2020 11:06

To be honest, I've never really thought about it. I guess DD (4 this Christmas) usually gets 8-10ish form us. Then probably the same again from the family. We don't really do it on number or cost, we just buy what we think she'd like (she's an only, and we're both on the older side (40's) and reasonably high earners, so we make a conscious effort to treat her and make her happy, but not go too wild as we don't want her growing up super entitled.

Pepperwand · 31/08/2020 11:15

@bumblebeewine my DC are exactly the same age as yours.

Our budget for them is £75 each. This will probably be made up of around 5 presents each plus their stocking which just has little bits and bobs in.....toothbrush, crayons etc.

We have a large extended family so they'll get around 25 other presents from aunts, uncles, grandparents etc.

Mustbethewine · 31/08/2020 11:37

My 2 DC will probably get 30-40 gifts each.

BiddyPop · 31/08/2020 11:38

DD generally got 1 or 2 larger things and a stocking filled with bits and pieces from Santa (always including a book (or 2), some fruit and sweets, some useful but nice bits and some fun stuff). And a present wrapped under the tree (usually clothes) from "Mum and Dad".

From extended family, she would generally get lots, some were Christmas only, lots were jointly Christmas and birthday (26th Dec!!). Some were jointly from a few couples or families. But we have a large family so there were a good few.

Then again, there were also a good few for each of DH and I. And we also buy presents for those in return.

(We also get DD a separate birthday present from us).

She probably got most when she was about 2-6 years old - as a teen, things are now smaller (but often more expensive!). Some years, one whole family joined together to get a "large" present - like a desk she wanted for her bedroom.

PinkyU · 31/08/2020 11:40

It can vary wildly, anywhere between 60-100+ in total (including little stocking fillers, selection box).

Mintjulia · 31/08/2020 11:43

about 6 from me, one big Present and a few smaller ones.

And one each from his df, dsis, three aunts, one uncle ( my siblings) and one from a neighbour.

Plus the usual chocolate , tangerine and silly stuff in his stocking - pound shop type stuff.

umberellaonesie · 31/08/2020 11:47

1 main present under the tree
Stocking = something to wear, something to read, something they need, something they want. From us
Then maybe 10 other presents from family

1stTimeMama · 31/08/2020 11:49

Between 6-10 each from us, plus a stocking of the classic socks/underwear/chocolate orange etc.
2-3 from my parents, 1 from my sister, and £10 each from an Uncle and that's it. I have 5 children and not sure I could fit much more in my house!!

Trevorina · 31/08/2020 11:51

Two DC's under 5 will receive around 4-7 presents from us plus a stocking with small things (bath bombs/sweets etc). However, we have a large family so overall they'll end up with about 20 presents each which is barmy and makes me anxious but if I buy less then they end up with a load of toys/books from family that are duplicates and nothing new

june2007 · 31/08/2020 11:57

I hate these threads. It,s not a competition, every one has different budgets and puts different values on things. If I buy cheaper things they may get more preseants then if I get more expensicve. Also some people have large families/friends who give preseants and some don,t do wht you feal is right for you. Too many preseants and children can get board/ unappreciative.

Courtney555 · 31/08/2020 13:08

We don't have a budget. We go for what they love. Sometimes it's a lot of little things. Sometimes it's just a few little things. Or two big things. All sorts really.

When I was little I remember asking for a box of chocolates and a bunch of flowers. That's what I got plus my stocking. It's my fondest childhood Christmas memory Smile

DS asked for a rocking horse and got a beautiful wooden one, that we had restored and we hand designed everything. It will be a family heirloom. He was absolutely made up. Another year he asked for a teacup and a worm. He got a teacup and a slinky blue worm. He was absolutely made up.

I find setting an amount then finding stuff to equate to that, a really backwards way of what Christmas is all about.

KitchenRollHuggers · 31/08/2020 13:14

There's no right or wrong and threads like this can make parents feel like poop.

Christmas can be made special by snuggling under a blanket with a hot chocolate watching Christmas movies, playing games, even things that don't involve anything, Like Eye spy, Charades and similar. Lots of ideas online.
Baking together, you can get cheap ingredients in places like poundland...

Its not all about presents

SqidgeBum · 31/08/2020 13:19

My 2 year old will get one "big" one from us, then a stocking of cheap things like crayons and chocolate, and some books. Then she will get 4 (both grandparents and our siblings). She might get a book or two from extended family. So total, maybe 5 proper presents.

CarrieFour · 31/08/2020 13:21

Have never counted.

It's different every year.

Just buy bits as we see them and what is written on lists to Santa.

I don't see why people care what others do? I'd certainly not change our Christmas based on what anyone else says their present count is?

Whathappenedtothelego · 31/08/2020 13:31

DH and I always buy 3 presents for the DC.

They always buy each other a small gift (part bankrolled by me).

The cats usually get them something small and silly.

They have several aunts, uncles, grandparents, godparents and friends who usually get them a present too.

badg3r · 31/08/2020 13:40

Normally around 12 from Santa, one or two from us, then aunties/uncles, a couple of friends and grandparents. One side of grandparents loves present buying so I guess around 40 in total. Could Be anything from a packet of stickers or a lollipop to a bike though!

bumblebeewine · 31/08/2020 13:41

This thread was certainly not made to make others feel like crap. There's been no bashing either.
