Have you decided what your main present for your 3 or 4 year old would be this year?

Absolutely stuck on DC1

DS will be 3.5 at Christmas. His main present is actually going to be the pirate lego set. He is pirate mad, already growing out of duplo and adores 'helping' his dad put together the adult lego sets. We figure whilst he cant put it together or play with it on his own, he will get a lot of joy out of helping DS build it and will happily spend hours playing with it with him. Also has the bonus of lasting forever!

I have got all his small and medium presents and they are things to play with straight away so hopefully a good balance. Some pirate playmobil, a vtech dinosaur, a dinosaur game etc.

midnightstar66 · 23/08/2020 16:14

Bike or micro scooter?

FilthyforFirth · 23/08/2020 16:15

Sorry I meant DS will get joy out helping DH! His dad already has the super expensive £180 one which he loves so I think will get a sense of 'ownership' over the £80 one!

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 23/08/2020 18:35

I think ds(4) will get a bike as his main gift. All he wants is one of those big packs of printer paper and some pens though.

Di11y · 23/08/2020 19:17

Magnatiles are great.

Twilightstarbright · 24/08/2020 06:34

Stuck for ideas here too. DS will be 3.5 and already has a bike and scooter.

Rebelwithallthecause · 24/08/2020 07:55

Yes the bike or scooter would have been the go to gifts but we already have them

Makes things tricky

Mine will be 4 at Christmas so I need a couple of ideas, his own camera is a must, and I'm thinking possibly a new scooter or something.
He already has a bike.

Acunningruse · 26/08/2020 19:36

DD turning 4 in September is getting a wooden dolls house for her birthday and probably an Amazon Fire Kids for Christmas.

When DS was that age I think his main present was the paw patroller type transporter thing.

Justmemyself · 27/08/2020 08:05

My 3 year old just got a yoto player for her birthday which she loves so something like that might appeal if they like listening to stories

Rebelwithallthecause · 27/08/2020 08:49

@Justmemyself I’ve not heard of a yoto player before

How does she use it mostly?

I'd say it's probably best if your DC isn't hugely into screens as it might be a bit boring for them if they are used to watching something. It's basically an audio player so she pops in a card and listens to a story or puts on music. It's a kids radio too so she might listen to that or a podcast. They've got some kids meditations etc so if she isn't that tired and having difficulty falling asleep, I'd let her listen in bed. We've also bought a pack of "make your own" cards and assigned one to each grandparent so they record things for her which she can listen to which works well for us as one set of grandparents live quite far away.

Blackbear19 · 27/08/2020 10:55

I've just looked up the Yoto player looks good but the cards for it are expensive and I'm sure you could get the stories cheaper on CD or MP3 download, that could later be used on other devices, ie I'm sure the book people did the Roald Dahl stories on a box of CDs for £10, the card for the Yoto is £40 and will be useless if the Yoto breaks.

I've been caught out before with little kids media stuff that's £££ and then when they out grow the little kids version you can't move the software on to other devices.

Lockdownseperation · 27/08/2020 13:41

I have no idea this year. DD has a scooter and bike. We over compensated for her lockdown birthday.

I may end up getting her a few small gifts.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 27/08/2020 13:43

Playmobil? They do a good "carry along" house. You could always take out the teeny tiny bits if you think it's needed.

Rebelwithallthecause · 27/08/2020 13:48

We do love playmobil so that’s always a good shout

My DD is 4 and we are planning on getting her toy story action figures.
Agree with a PP magnatiles are fab my daughter loves them. So many fun expansion packs you can get for birthdays in the future.
Maybe some brio? Something we were so thinking was a vet set and a little vet outfit we found on Amazon

Mutabilis · 27/08/2020 17:17

This is great thread OP as my 3 year old turns 4 at Christmas and I'm really stuck for ideas. I'm thinking about Schleich animals, the big Lego City boat (DH loves Lego) and an Our Generation doll as she loves her older sisters ones and often sneaks them out of her room to play with. I'll be watching the thread for ideas.

Jfw82 · 27/08/2020 17:19

I've bought the leapfrog ice cream cart as a joint present for my 2yo and 4yo as gets consistently good reviews and am always seeing it recommended

skankingpiglet · 27/08/2020 17:34

DD2 was 3.5yo last xmas. The things which have proven most popular are some easier 4/5+ Lego sets (she could build them herself with a bit of guidance), a couple of Playmobil space sets (joint present to share with DD1), Hotwheels track, some Sylvanians, books, and Little Live Pets Ladybirds (the only thing she asked for was a pet ladybird, so I was very grateful to find these on FB Marketplace!).
She turned 4 in June, and 50% of her presents were Lego as she is now obsessed. The other 'hits' have been yet more books, Hama beads, and the Polly Pocket.

He will love the pirate Lego even if he can't build it himself just yet. I have given DCs my childhood sets including a castle that is well past their building skills at present. They spend hours playing with it and making alterations.

Queenfreak · 27/08/2020 20:12

My dd will be nearly 4 at Christmas.
We found the playmobil zoo set for £20 in a charity shop today.
Yup. So that's her done

Pepperwand · 27/08/2020 20:33

My DS (age 3.5) loves WOW toys so we're going to get him one the bigger ones, maybe the big bin lorry or similar.

Last year his main present was a trunki because they're expensive but he loved it when he could pack it for a night or two away.

gingajewel · 27/08/2020 21:13

My four year old is getting a tv for her room and then mostly Lego, dolls and jojo siwa things!

mumtobabygilrl · 27/08/2020 21:18

Another vote for the Yoto player my DD3 loves hers! The cards slot into the box but they also download onto a parents phone so we they do have multi use- we play them via Bluetooth through the car on long journeys

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 27/08/2020 21:38

Brio traditional wooden railway track building and associated imagination toy sets are my go to for younger child presents. Bit like Lego plastic bricks building for skill, imagination and learning but a better version using wooden pieces as well as plastic characters. Very interchangeable with cheaper compatible supermarket versions and can last years as sets can grow with additions as child explores further.

Eg at more expensive end (but start with smaller sets): www.brio.uk/products/all-products/railway/sets/railway-world-deluxe-set
