10 and 7 year old. Both enjoy board games.
I'd like to get them one decent game each that they will manage and we can play as a family.

Ideas are-Cards against humanity family edition
Ticket to ride - first journey Europe
Catan- junior
Carcassonne
Operation

We already have and enjoy Dobble, Labyrinth, Monopoly, Quirkle, Exploding kittens, Zombie dice, pass the pigs.

I don't want to frustrate them with overly difficult games. If you could pick one game each for the 10yo and 7yo which would you choose?

MNHQ Update
We appreciate this thread is a little old now, but if you’ve come across it while on the hunt for similar recommendations, our guide to the best board games has been recently updated to reflect current availability and new releases. It’s been compiled based on advice from Mumsnet users as well as consumer reviews with fun for the whole family in mind. We hope it’s helpful! Flowers

Guess Who is great. It was one of my most played games from 6 upwards. It's only 2 player though.

Sequence. I’ve not met anyone who doesn’t enjoy it.

I really want Azul now and I'm meant to be on a board game embargo at the moment (don't tell DH but DS and I have ordered Sabacc off Etsy and it's on its way from Australia, Han Solo won the Millennium Falcon from Lando Calrissian playing Sabacc, total geek out, the set is designed so it wouldn't look out of place on the bar in the Tatooine Cantina).

Also had my eye on Rummikub for a while.

Carcassonne is ace. We had a massive family holiday requiring 3 villas to Carcassonne itself in honour of the game. No need for junior versions at their ages.

Azul is really good @Namechangeforthis88. There’s also a stained glass version that I love the look of too. It’s such a beautiful game.

CatsForLife · 21/08/2020 19:13

Rummikub is brilliant

Best game I’ve played with those ages, and really enjoy myself too, Storymaster’s Tales Weirding Woods.

Risk has been a massive hit with mine during lockdown (8 and 10).

I know this will seem too young but we had a great laugh playing snakes and ladders with my teenagers Blush

We also play dominoes and card games, some of which we make up the rules to create our own family game.

Also on guess who and connect 4 we used to play in couples, no conferring, so two teams of two, each person asked a question but couldn't tell their teammate what they were thinking. With connect 4 you each had a turn of putting the counter in so hoped your teammate saw the line you were going for!

My eldest two are really into Bears vs Babies at the moment.

They also like King of Tokyo, Forbidden Island and Pictionary.

We plan to buy Ticket to Ride and Zooloretto this Christmas.

Landlubber2019 · 28/08/2020 06:18

Cat an is a big hit in our house

Happydaysandhappysmiles · 28/08/2020 06:21

How long does junior monopoly last? Mine love it (at grandparents) eldest is 5 and we have three others (😱) following on behind. Wondering whether to get it or get the adult version and put it away. They are so expensive!

Bluewavescrashing · 28/08/2020 07:23

My 6yo can play Monopoly competently. He likes being the banker but an adult could be the banker!

Ticket to ride (standard edition not jnr) is played by my 6 year old nephew fine.

Other favourites in our family are cranium, Pictionary, game of life, cluedo, Chinese checkers, backgammon (we have 10 in 1 wooden games chest with chess etc).

I like the sound of card against humanity family edition, we have the adult version (my kids are adults)

minnieok · 28/08/2020 07:28

Also look at risk - I've played it from early childhood and my DD's have too
