Always at least 1 books, often 3 or 4

A fruit bowl worth of fruit (red apple, green apple, orange, mandarin, kiwi etc), goes back to my own childhood. (The one time per year all DCs had our own supplies of fruit that we didn’t have to share with the other 5).

As DCs, a 1lb box of sweets (everyone different). Dd gets something nice that she’d enjoy (dark choc usually).

Some fun science stuff - crystal growing kit, bug viewer, slinky, ...

Nice hair bobbins, lovely shower gel, good socks that DM would never buy...(something you need, but nice versions).

And then fun stuff. Something you want. Craft things. Add ons to systems/kits/collections already started. Something to do with the latest craze. Etc.

Mine have a sack from Santa which makes it a little easier as not limited to small gifts! Some things we always do,
Lego blind bag figure and small build (in the past been free ones!)
New pants and socks in favourite character/animal.
New pens/notebook.
Scratch art went down well.
Tube of pringles.
Bag of favourite sweets/chocolates.
Can of fizzy or favourite treat drink.
Blind bag figures they collect - funko/lol the last few years here!
New drinks bottle/lunchbox.
Top trumps or other small card game/travel game.
Box of crackers.
Dvd.
Keyring for bag.
Then always a soft toy poking out of the top!!

SpringSunshineandTulips · 02/08/2020 12:34

Thanks. I’ve decided on

Underwear
Socks
Xmas chocolate
Grow your own Venus fly trap
Foaming coloured soap
Sponge
Face packs

That will probably be enough in the stocking - although I may take out the Venus fly trap and put that with other presents and replace with something else as I’m not sure they will fit in their stockings.

gowinghem · 08/08/2020 15:20

I put in last year and thought it went down well

  • new pjs and fluffy socks
  • new hot water bottle
  • christmas chocs and chocolate coins
  • colouring book and gel pens
  • lush bath bomb
  • a cuddly toy- such as a TY or something similar
  • a new book
  • roblox gift card

then usually a board game and lego for them to share.

Basically things to keep them occupied. However, we give them their stockings on christmas eve rather than christmas morning.

MarmaladeTeepee · 09/08/2020 08:29

Having just had a massive clear out of the DC's rooms, I'm really tempted to do an edible stocking for each of them this year. They both have so much 'stuff' it feels wasteful getting them stuff for the sake of it.

Raella50 · 09/08/2020 09:08

Our kids are still small and their stockings are upstairs so just something to keep them occupied in the morning when they wake up. Last year it was: magazine, colouring pens, carton of juice, Christmas biscuit from the little bakery near us. Also included a couple of Christmas accessories to wear downstairs: hair clips/ fluffy socks.

lucysmam · 09/08/2020 10:59

@MarmaladeTeepee I was about to add my list to the thread then read your comment...that is a genius idea!

I've already bought the socks/pants/shower gel & scrunchy thingys to go in for my dd's but I think I'll look for some edible treats too! I might even find some bits for their advent calendars which I'm struggling with a bit this year.

Jackparlabane · 09/08/2020 11:12

For the last few years I've hit up charity shops in the nearby posh area for stockings. Avoids the feeling of buying tat that's a waste.

End up with slipper-socks, bowls/glasses with favourite characters on, books, DVDs, puzzle games, etc. The kids' stockings are quite big so as well as chocolate and some sort of puzzle or craft set, there's satsumas and about five paperback books.

Also a pack of breakfast cereal we don't normally get, though now my kids have decided they don't like Star Wars/Frozen cereal so will provide another breakfast item.

OverTheRainbow88 · 09/08/2020 11:15

Gosh you’ve all inspired me to get Xmas stocking shopping!!

Are you shopping mainly online?
