...and I'm so excited!!

This is our first time (and likely our last as this will be my eldest's last Christmas believing) and I'm sure Covid will mean it'll be different from previous years but if you have any tips, please let me have them!

I'd also like to know if it's worth the money. £300 for a day out seems extortionate.

SummerPeony · 27/07/2020 14:49

I looked earlier and it is £475 for a day in November and almost £700 for a Saturday in December!!

Powerof4 · 27/07/2020 15:11

I booked too! We went last year and it was fabulous! Bring warm waterproof dungarees and thick padded gloves for the children for skating if you have them :)

MolotovMocktail · 27/07/2020 16:26

Me too! So excited. Have a fab time OP

newphoneswhodis · 27/07/2020 16:28

Powerof4. Can you give more info of what is was like? Is it worth the money?

WreckTangled · 27/07/2020 18:55

I've been twice and it's amazing! Definitely the next best thing to the really Lapland. You'll have a great time. Actually the second time wasn't quite as good but I think that's because we knew what to expect so weren't quite so blown away. It's really great though.

Cam2020 · 28/07/2020 09:28

That sounds so much fun! How old are your children? My daughter is 3, so it's on the list for next year when she'll hopefully remember something of it!

CiderGlider · 28/07/2020 11:17

Mine are 10 and 7. A friend went last year-similar aged children and she said it was truly magical and she's not one for overstating!

@newphoneswhodis

It’s an immersive theatre experience- you go through a maze of trees to make a toy in the toy factory, then make gingerbread in the kitchen, then can go skating in the elf village while you wait to meet Santa. There are reindeer and elves too.

I’m not sure how to say if it’s worth the money apart from my daughter (just 4 last year) has the strongest memories of the day and talked, wrote and drew pictures about it for months afterwards! If you don’t like skating it might be less magical, I suppose, while waiting to meet for Christmas.

Powerof4 · 28/07/2020 15:51

Father Christmas that should say!

WreckTangled · 28/07/2020 16:01

I didn't skate but the dc did. I had the best hot chocolate ever whilst watching them! We also ate at the restaurant both times which was nice enough.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 28/07/2020 16:04

I've never been but a friend of mine is one of the Santa's there!

WreckTangled · 28/07/2020 16:09

I was really annoyed the second time we went because as we were waiting to see Father Christmas the lady behind us kept talking to us about what a good job they'd done and it's amazing how they put it all together etc (all said really loudly in front of my dc Hmm)

dannydyerismydad · 28/07/2020 16:15

We went a couple of years ago. It really was beautiful and we were there several hours. It was also pissing with rain so the skating wasn't as lovely as it could have been but it didn't spoil our enjoyment.

When you factor in panto tickets are around £50 a head and skating is £15 a head or so, it's not extortionate in November. December prices are terrifying though.

Having done it once I wouldn't do it again though unless they made it considerably different.

I'm impressed that you didn't turn round and poke her in the eye Wreck

A few years ago DD and I went to see "The Little MatchGirl" at Sadlers Wells . There was a minimum age . I don't know how old the girl was behind us but when it got to the sad bit she was crying , the mum was all "No she's sleeping, she's just having a little nap"

I was so wanting to say "Didn't you read the story ? The whole point is she's Dead . She dies cold and in poverty , hallucinating about her grandmother "
She whittered on the whole way through that bit , Xmas Hmm

CostaCosta · 28/07/2020 22:32

It is just so magical! I have been twice. It's like stepping inside a snow globe. It's cozy, Christmassy and fun. They have planned it so well. Great memories coming your way!

JinglesWish · 04/08/2020 19:43

So excited to see other people on here have booked, too. It’s our first year taking our 5 and 2.5 year old. I really hope it feels magical and isn’t blighted by everyone wearing masks or standing on plastic 2m dots!

Worst case; bookings get moved to next year, I suppose. I’d prefer that to the masks 🤞

Marypoppinsisnosaint · 07/08/2020 06:35

I booked in January. My brother and sister in law take my niece and nephew every year and always rave about it! I'm super excited! I just hope covid doesn't ruin it for us. We booked our premier inn last month as we'll be staying overnight. The price is expensive so this will be the only time we go. My children will be 4 and 3 so I managed to book a midweek one which was cheaper.

Juiceey · 11/08/2020 11:34

We took DS when he was 6.5 and it's one of my all time favourite memories, ever. We all had such a wonderful magical day. Enjoy yourself OP! Definitely worth the money!

BlueOooChristmas · 11/08/2020 13:49

We've booked for November. Our eldest is going to be 8 (and still just believes at the moment) and youngest will be 5. We thought this could be the last year the eldest goes along with it all. I adore Christmas though and so can't wait. We're travelling down from Leeds and have an early start time so we booked a Travelodge for next to nothing for the night before. We go on a Sunday so we can drive back after and hopefully not miss any school. Hoping for ok weather and no further lockdowns. I know the kids don't know but I'd be gutted if it was canceled, I'm so excited lol.
Does anyone know when the personalised portal thingy opens on the website? Also for anyone who has been before how much can we expect to drop in the gift shop on the way out?

I would live to take the DC's to Lapland. Do you have to self isolate though either end?

WreckTangled · 11/08/2020 20:15

This is Lapland UK, it's near Windsor.

Sorry for my previous post, wrong thread Grin

waitingforachange · 11/08/2020 20:25

Oh right didn't know there was one! I'm off to google.

And I would have something sweet Wreck if that's what you fancy Wink

WreckTangled · 11/08/2020 20:33

I'm not sure I do to be honest Grin I think I'm just thirsty. Currently melting as it's still 27° here 🥵
