Just woken up and it's dreary and grey outside.
I've made a pumpkin spice tea and have been shopping for new leather ankle boots for September.

@PurpleCalm me too! Not much to add apart from a TV recommendation. Gilmore Girls. It’s my secret shame as it’s so naff. The first time I saw the opening credits I thought it was a parody it was so cheesy! But most of the episodes seem to be set in autumn and it’s a really easy watch.

I’m just learning how to sew so am going to think of some autumn projects. My aim is to eventually make a quilted blanket in autumn colours.

xmummy2princesx · 29/07/2020 19:59

Ooh that’s be luvly @VanillaSpiceCandle

EboracumNovum · 29/07/2020 21:20

Talking of naff TV...the new version of Dallas is bonkers but very bingeable.

Currently browsing WoodWick candles...mmmm!

VanillaSpiceCandle · 30/07/2020 00:12

@xmummy2princesx I think I’m a couple of years off yet but thanks! Also I do love (but am pretty rubbish at) crafting and it feels like a very autumnal hobby. So looking forward to getting some projects started soon.

The weather is just so rubbish now I’m already wishing away August but seeing as we can enjoy it like normal I don’t feel so bad.

xmummy2princesx · 30/07/2020 00:36

@VanillaSpiceCandle I luv crafting 2 might have 2 get sum things 2 do 4 autumn

EboracumNovum · 30/07/2020 18:46

Oh heck! Pyjamas have just started popping up on my FB feed. .this could be dangerous!

VanillaSpiceCandle · 30/07/2020 20:09

I’m in dire need of new pjs. I’ve not been clothes shopping since February and there seems to be a national shortage of nice pjs. I suppose it’s because that’s all we’re wearing during lockdown.

I would like some nicer loungewear type trousers which aren’t joggers. Curled up with a blanket, coffee and fire 🔥

VanillaSpiceCandle · 30/07/2020 20:09

@xmummy2princesx do you have any ideas for craft projects? Would love some inspiration!

ChippyTea16 · 31/07/2020 19:21

@VanillaSpiceCandle do you have Pinterest? There’s some nice craft ideas on there (lots of American thanksgiving-type decorations).

I quite like the idea of making an autumn door wreath. I’m not crafty at all but I’d love to maybe make cushion covers or seasonal placemats/coasters or something like that.

I have bought some oil pastels recently so I’m going to have a go at doing some nice autumn scenes - check out Deepaks Art on Instagram/YouTube he makes it look so easy but the results are amazing

VanillaSpiceCandle · 31/07/2020 20:08

@ChippyTea16 no I don’t have Pinterest and it’s a pain as you always need to log in to see anything properly. But I’m sure I can get enough ideas by sneaking a peek. Thanks for the tip. I think the Thanksgiving style stuff would work really well - minus the Pilgrim hats!

An autumn wreath sounds like a great idea. I have seen fake autumn leaf foliage which could be glued or maybe sewn onto a base.

Oil pastels sound amazing! Definitely well above my skill set. Would love to see what you make Smile

I really needed to read this. I love Autumn, it's my absolute favourite season - DS birthday, Halloween, bonfire night and Christmas. So much to enjoy and I love candles, fires and all that.

But...... I feel ripped off. Our 5 mile restriction has only recently been removed in Wales and I feel that I've missed summer. Now that we could go to the beach etc the weather has dipped. The thought of covid in winter fills me with dread too, we love a bit of soft play in winter!

After reading this I'm going to Google autumn wreaths and give myself a constructive project to work on (and buy wellies to fit my calves!). We still go to the beach in winter, kites and flasks instead of suncream and I needed reminding of that!

ChippyTea16 · 02/08/2020 14:28

@Polkadotdelight sorry to hear about the weather in Wales, so frustrating all round. Try and think of the summer beaches being hot, sweaty and crowded and hopefully you won’t feel like you’re missing out too much!

I actually love the thought of a deserted beach in autumn/winter. I’d wrap up and get some fish and chips and go and sit and enjoy the peace and then go home feeling refreshed and to a nice warm house with hot chocolate, blankets and a good film! Well, in my head anyway!

Papergirl1968 · 02/08/2020 14:56

Chippytea, re books, there’s Rosamond Pilcher’s September or Milly Johnson’s An Autumn Crush.
Or putting autumn fiction into amazon brings up some other choices.

MintyCedric · 02/08/2020 16:56

Definitely adding that to my 'to do list.

Can anyone recommend some inexpensive, easy to clean waterproof shoes/boots that would cope with shingle beach or countryside?

ChippyTea16 · 02/08/2020 18:34

Thank you @Papergirl1968 I actually downloaded the Milly Johnson one last week! Haven’t started it yet but will have a look at the rosumund pilcher one too

Polkadotdelight · 02/08/2020 20:29

Thank you @ChippyTea16 weather perked up today so we managed an hour down at the beach (tide was almost fully in). If I can squeeze a few more if those times in I will be raring for autumn again!

MovinOnUp · 02/08/2020 22:53

@BumpkinSpiceBatty For a cheesy tv show, I can recommend 'Chesapeake Shores' cheesefest but fab!

xmummy2princesx · 03/08/2020 09:43

Did loads of Xmas planning yesterday and really just ready for autumb now

Nearlyadoctor · 04/08/2020 06:55

@MintyCedric - can I ask what the new TV adaptation and book is ? I love reading books prior to Tv series being released.

MintyCedric · 04/08/2020 08:21

@Nearlyadoctor

It's the new Robert Galbraith (Cormoran Strike series).

The adaptation of the last book, Lethal White is due on TV v.soon (hopefully end of August but BBC are being very slow to confirm an air date).

The new book, Troubled Blood is out 15th September.

About the only things I've had to get excited about this year

Nearlyadoctor · 04/08/2020 08:37

@MintyCedric - thanks I did see that and also already looking forward to it. I’m quite excited as well for the 2nd His Dark Materials which is on tv in November, as loved all the books and the first tv series.

ThisCharmingPenisHaver · 04/08/2020 09:10

I've woken up in such a rubbishy mood today but this thread has cheered me right up!

Autumn is my absolute favourite. In our house the Christmas countdown really begins at the 100 days to go mark (mid September) and with each passing day it gets increasingly festive. DH's birthday and our wedding anniversary are both in mid October and we usually go to Scotland for a week - sadly we might not get to this year but there's still hope! It's the best place to visit in autumn, especially Edinburgh. The colours at the Botanic Gardens and the autumn light there are so gorgeous, and The Dome is always decorated for Christmas by the time we go. I really hope it's doable this year because goodness me, we need it!

We live near the coast and walking next to the sea and watching how the light changes from September (when we can often go bare armed and even have a splash in the sea if it's warm enough) to November (when we're all wrapped up and stop off at out favourite cafe for white hot chocolates and brownies) is one of our favourite things to do.

Roll on September. Is it wrong to wish away a whole month?!

ThisCharmingPenisHaver · 04/08/2020 09:11

Oh and the weather is VERY autumnal here today - grey and damp with a definite chill in the air!

MintyCedric · 04/08/2020 09:55

@Nearlyadoctor

I must watch the TV series of HDM. I enjoyed the first book with DD (apart from being traumatised by the 'Ratter' scene), but we never got into the second book.

On the autumnal front I bought some scented candles yesterday, Crackling Wood Fire and Home Sweet Home Yankee Candle tealights.

I know they're considered a bit naff on here these days but there were too many scents to choose from. I was debating a Woodwick but just couldn't bring myself to spend 27 quid on one candle.

Nearlyadoctor · 04/08/2020 10:01

@MintyCedric - great minds think alike, I’m planning on visiting the local garden centre later this week for some autumnal candles .
