Where in your house does your Christmas Tree go?
Do you move your room around to accommodate it?

New layout in our house so Looking for some inspo and out the box thinking for where I can put mine this year.

Ours goes in the living room bay window. The house is Edwardian and we get a big tree as we have high ceilings. It means it's not really in the way, we just move a couple of chairs around the room. I sometimes put a smaller tree in the dining room too.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/07/2020 12:16

In the bay window - tree is usually about 6 foot. I have to move two very large plants (more like mini trees TBH) first.

We used to have a much bigger one, 9-10 foot, which went in a corner and heavy furniture had to be moved. Although it looked lovely, moving things was a PITA - dh and dds loved a whopper though.

We've moved house this year so haven't had Christmas here and are planning to buy our first house before Christmas so hopefully will be having Christmas there. I love Christmas tree in the window but I don't think it'll work in the new living room so will just put it wherever it fits best. We'll also have a separate dining room for the first time so thinking of putting one in there too probably just in the corner.

Since I’ve had my own household I’ve lived in a house for many years, then three different flats over the past five years, and this month we’re moving into what’s likely to be our forever home.

In my previous house I used to change the layout in the living room every so often so I had the tree in several places over the years. In my two previous flats the tree sat in a corner of dining room/living room and no moving of furniture was necessary. In my current flat it sits near to the television unit, under a window. Again, no moving of furniture is necessary.

I prefer to be able to easily see the tree in the evening when I’m relaxing, so I always place it somewhere opposite to the sofa.

In the house we’re moving to I’m planning to have a big tree in the living room, by the bay window, plus a smaller one in the corner of the dining room. I might also have a small one in the hallway.

Ninkanink · 10/07/2020 12:36

Oh and in the new house it’ll just be a matter of moving a couple of arm chairs out of the way.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/07/2020 13:20

We have ours in the bay window. We turn the coffee table in the bay around and the tree goes on top, so not a huge amount of moving stuff, thankfully.

girlywhirly · 10/07/2020 15:41

We have an L shaped lounge diner, so we have two trees so that if we are at the table we can see the smaller half tree, and if in the lounge we can see that and the main floor standing tree. It stands in front of a bookcase, which isn’t a problem as we chose a slim 6ft style. If we positioned it in front of the patio window in the dining end it would still block a significant amount of light, and the other source of natural light is via glass doors to the study which has a window. But we don’t have to move any furniture around.

If you have a bay window at the front it's the law that the tree goes there. At least, that's what my kids say so the big tree goes in the bay window of the playroom. We have to move the table football so it fits. That's fine but I couldn't cope with not having a tree in the sitting room so we also have a smaller tree there with all my prettiest glass baubles which sits in the corner where a chair normally sits. So some moving about but not masses.

Mustbethewine · 10/07/2020 18:00

Our tree is in the corner. We don't have to move anything to accommodate it probablywhy we chose the corner due to convenience. It's a 7 footer.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/07/2020 18:44

Usually in the sitting room , either at the side near the wall if its a real tree , or in a space between the sitting room/dining room for a fake one ( there's a radiator there . it's less in the way but a real tree wouldn't like it )
Have to move a small table .

Last year , the tree stayed up Fri-Mon before our new cat savaged it ....so this year , it's staying in it's box !

Much as I love a Christmas Tree , I love the cats more

Cherryrainbow · 10/07/2020 21:38

The first year we moved our coffee table under the window and put the tree in the corner.
Last year we kept the coffee table in the corner and put the tree in front of the window.
I imagine it will be one of the two.

I also have a mini tree in the boys room x

MrsPworkingmummy · 10/07/2020 22:02

In our old house, we placed our tree in front of a byre window or sometimes in the alcove between the wall and fireplace. The ceilings were only 7 foot high so a small wide real tree was our go-to. We are now in a victorian house with 14ft high ceilings and we bought a huge real tree and placed it in the lounge bay last year, moving two chairs and a side table out of the way to accommodate. This year, I might put it in the alcove as I've changed the sofa and chairs around and don't know whether I want to move them back just so we can fit a tree in.

happymummy12345 · 10/07/2020 22:04

Ours goes in the bay window. Only have to move some of ds's toys. I love our tree. Goes up the first weekend of December and comes down on the 6th January

xmummy2princesx · 11/07/2020 00:38

Corner of the living room my sofa is against the window so can’t be there

TARSCOUT · 11/07/2020 00:49

Bay window which means armchair has to be moved. I have a massive fireplace in living room (too big actually), I decorate this bloody fabulously and would happily not have a tree, just the fireplace.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 11/07/2020 06:57

In the bay window however due to it being 9ft and the ceiling being slightly lower in the bay it is set to one side but still very visible through the bay. We have to live the large TV/you unit along a couple of feet to fit it.

We have a 6ft one in the kitchen diner too by the patio doors.

pussycatinboots · 11/07/2020 07:12

for the same reason as 70 our tree goes in the conservatory, away from poking paws Hmm they're 6 but still act like 6 months when they see the blinkin tree! I keep threatening to get a small one for the living room, but I'd probably spend all of my time picking it/baubles up and peeling a cat off it. 😺🎄

RoseBlush1 · 11/07/2020 09:12

Oh this is why I'd love a bay window, purely for putting my Christmas tree in 😂

Ours goes in the corner of the living room next to the window, next best thing Smile

Allthepinkunicorns · 11/07/2020 09:15

Mine goes by the bay window, it doesn't go inside it as we currently have the tv there. I'm planning on moving soon and every house I view I have a quick think about where the Christmas tree should go. I also think I want a bigger tree.

Stompythedinosaur · 11/07/2020 21:31

Ours goes in the living room in front of the window and we normal have to put away a chalk board and a toy storage box to make room. I am envious of everyone who has a bay window for their tree!

We are in the process of some redecorating atm in advance of getting new flooring downstairs next week, and a major factor in our rearranging the furniture is how a christmas tree will be accommodated!

Floralnomad · 11/07/2020 22:01

The large tree goes in the main lounge in a corner where the Dyson fan lives normally , the 5’ twig tree is in the dining area ( has Swarovski Christmas ornaments on it ) and we’ve just bought a 4’ BH prelit Alpine which will go in the small lounge on a side board .

CarebearSt4re · 11/07/2020 22:31

Loving this. Please keep them coming.

We have ours where the fireplace used to be, had it removed to get a bit more space.
It's the only spare space there is. Would love a bay window though.
It could go at the window if we moved the sofa, will see nearer the time

Ninkanink · 12/07/2020 13:42

@CarebearSt4re if you do an advanced search of the Christmas topic you should find quite a few threads with photos of people’s trees in situ, they’re always great for inspiration.

FilthyforFirth · 12/07/2020 22:38

I LOVE a christmas tree in the window. We had that growing up. Sadly my sofa is under my window and nowhere else for it to go, so it sits in the corner and we block off that entrance to the living room.

DH takes the piss out of me but I know this isnt our forever home as a) I cant fit my tree under the window and b) there isnt space to do another tree by the stairs which is my lifelong goal!

If you have a window and it fits, shove it there, it's the law Grin
