Best wrapping paper this year?

I really enjoy wrapping presents, and finding good quality wrapping paper. I didn’t go for a theme or set colour this year, just lots of different designs.

I have used wrapping paper from lots of different shops this year.

I bought some pink snowflake paper from John Lewis and was really pleased with the quality but the Nutcracker paper from there was really thin and disappointing.

I bought two different types from Sainsbury’s and it was awful. Kept tearing, and wasn’t cheap so won’t buy from there again because the one I had from there last year was also poor quality.

Had 2 types from Tesco & Paperchase and were all good quality.

Which paper did you like best and what shops will you avoid for it next year?

Lidl was a lifesaver. I wanted paper with no metallic or glitter and they were the only ones suitable.

DD outgrows the children ones so I bought paper which can be used for everyone apart from Father Christmas, he always has a silly one.

Brown with ribbons. Recyclable and looks so nice.

bluebellation · 26/12/2019 17:58

Lidl - made from recycled paper and recyclable once used. Really cheap and strong, plus it looked quite classy .

I bought brown paper from Amazon a couple of years ago and when it turned up it was massive. I've been using it for all Christmas and birthday presents since then and it's still huge. I used some red and white string to tie it with (and sellotape) and it looks lovely.

In January last year I bought some paper from sainsburys and when I went to use it, was very disappointed. It was thin, felt cheap and ripped easily. My comparison, the Aldi paper I bought to wrap 45 layers for pass the parcels at school was amazing. It was fabulous, thick and had grid lines on the back for straight line cutting @Elderflower14

ALDI was good this year, very similar quality to WSmiths which I buy every year

MondeoFan · 26/12/2019 18:46

Sally2791 · 26/12/2019 18:49

Brown paper from local stationers, Lidl also good quality

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/12/2019 18:50

Home bargains brown paper with a different design for each person- although I didn't realise the red spots one was glittery and it went everywhere!

Last year I had some Lidl paper that was double sided. It was fantastic.

labazsisgoingmad · 26/12/2019 19:15

tesco was lovely designs had to buy an emergency roll and co op was the one i chose great paper and even more helpful was that back of paper was gridded and with scissor marks so made cutting a dream. if they have any reduced i shall be stocking up ready

Lidl's, grey with white stars.
Quite drapery and thin but very strong and recycled/recyclable.

halocompanach · 26/12/2019 19:59

Brown parcel paper with red and green compostable string and paper tape. We also got some present tags with xmas shapes cut out with stencils. The whole lot went in the recycling bin as well as looking lovely.

CakeAndGin · 26/12/2019 20:07

An old roll of recyclable paper from Tesco, brown paper with paper tape from the works and old gift bags most of which were organza gift bags from amazon.

newbingepisodes · 26/12/2019 20:09

Anything that's recyclable in this house. Bro used brown parcel paper with coloured ribbons - looked lush! None of that shiny stuff here can't recycle it.

chillychicken · 26/12/2019 20:10

Card factory paper was brilliant this year. Thick, easy to fold, sellotape stuck to it. I only bought it for kids presents and wasn’t expecting it to be great as it was so cheap. Really impressed.

Other than that, I used brown paper. I’m a bit bored of decorating that though so will probably pick up some paper from the white company in the sale as that’s usually excellent quality.

Goldwispa · 26/12/2019 20:11

Tesco

emmaliz · 26/12/2019 20:14

Coop, was really good quality

hanahsaunt · 26/12/2019 20:16

Oxfam does fantastic paper. I have used it for the last 20 years and always go back for the consistent quality. Revelation this year was using paper tape. Not only is it recyclable, it (felt like it) halved the wrapping time.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 26/12/2019 20:21

Another one for brown paper packages tied up with string. Well, fabric ribbon actually - I retrieved as much of the ribbon as I could to reuse in future. Big roll of brown parcel paper from Tesco, fabric ribbon from sainsbury. I think next year I might buy an inkpad stamp or two to print onto the paper.

ManiacalLapwing · 26/12/2019 20:23

Reused gift bags all the way. Same

SallyLovesCheese · 26/12/2019 20:25

I did no-paper, no-sellotape wrapping this year with Christmas cotton fabric from the local fabric shop tied up with Christmas ribbon. I collected it all up to use again next year, too!

reluctantbrit · 26/12/2019 20:26

@chillychicken Our Card Factory had only shiny, metallic and glittery stuff, very disappointing

DickDewy · 26/12/2019 20:27

This year we did plain brown or white paper decorated with a beautiful string, real foliage and little bells.
