Just me dh and 3dcs on Boxing Day. Kids eat anything and I fancy something non-traditional but special. We won’t have any left overs as were at my brothers for Christmas Day. Just looking for some inspiration.

Buffet food?
Order a take away?

ivykaty44 · 17/12/2019 21:40

Ham and cauliflower cheese with oven chips

Having the same on Xmas eve, as it’s easy to make up a couple of dishes if cauliflower cheese and pop in the fridge ready to put in the oven, will cook the ham this weekend - ready for cold meat

I have all the family over so planning on a big chilli, rice, guacamole etc. Something a little bit different to break up the turkey. Last year I had everyone over and did lasagna.
People then happily go back to the left overs the next day.

ZenNudist · 17/12/2019 22:05

Ham with baking potatoes and salad.

lucysmam · 17/12/2019 22:56

Whatever's there to be eaten! Nothing specific planned here apart from leftovers & whatever munchy food is about

nocoolnamesleft · 17/12/2019 22:58

Leftovers. I love Xmas leftovers.

superram · 17/12/2019 23:00

Turkey, chips and pickles-‘‘tis the law!

Zofloramummy · 17/12/2019 23:03

I go to relatives for Boxing Day. I’d be quite happy with a buffet or a big pot of spag Bol, chilli etc. Every flipping year it’s something like veal, venison or haggis cottage pie. Half of it gets left and everyone is starving! I appreciate the hard work involved but honestly we’ll be having a McDonald’s on the way and I’ll be taking butties for dd (no child options).

My ideal Boxing Day food would be cold meats, cheese, pate, crusty bread and nice nibbles.

Home cooked ham, fried eggs and twice-cooked chips done in the deep fryer.

Sherry trifle

Littleshortcake · 17/12/2019 23:10

For special dinners I love to cook duck and garlic potatoes

Or fillet steak and roast veg

Squidgoals · 17/12/2019 23:12

Chocolates, mince pies. Christmas cake, trifle. chocolate mousse. Baileys.

Christmas Dinner round 2!

Visioncroquet · 17/12/2019 23:15

Tapas.eg hummos / guac / dips n stuff to dip (breadsticks, carrot batons, celery), falafal, sundries toms, olives, artichoke, tabbouleh, cous cous. Just divide into bowls & people can just go for it.

Alternatively, cheese & crackers.

Can't decide, will see what we fancy, I've got on my list ingredients for curries, lasagne, maple glazed ham, party food, lamb tagine. Or might get a Chinese if too hungover 💃

selmabear · 17/12/2019 23:24

Even though I'm having christmas dinner at my mothers I'm still cooking turkey, hog roast and gammon for cold meat for boxing day, bread rolls, pickles, chutney, cheese board. Never had a proper meal on boxing day, we just graze all day

JumpingFrogs · 17/12/2019 23:25

Cold ham, cold turkey, bubble and squeak, salad and any other leftovers

BikeRunSki · 17/12/2019 23:35

Nachos, tacos and all the sides.

monkeytennis97 · 17/12/2019 23:45

Cold meats (turkey, beef, ham) with mash and pickles/chutneys...yum my favourite dinner

cultmaskid · 17/12/2019 23:47

We make a ramen with left over goose and eat left overs but

This year we are having a rib of beef so I have bought duck legs to cook and shred for in the soup

Wacadu · 17/12/2019 23:47

We're buying pizza bases, topping them with all the leftover meat and adding onions, mushrooms etc. We did this last year and it was great.

thenightsky · 17/12/2019 23:49

Indian curry takeaway. We've done it so many years now its become our new family tradition.

FalalalalaloreanFortescue · 18/12/2019 00:20

Honey roast gammon
Quiche
Cheese/biscuits
Bread
Salad
Etc etc etc.

It's what we refer to in our family as a "hotch potch".

FalalalalaloreanFortescue · 18/12/2019 00:21

And upon googling that for the first time, I've just realised hotchpotch is all one word!

ritzbiscuits · 18/12/2019 03:33

Leftovers/buffet in the day. Curry on the night. Have also done turkey, chips and pickles in the past.

Snuffkindle · 18/12/2019 08:18

We have buffet lunch, then turkey and ham pie for dinner
