Wrapping stocking presents?

Just that really - we didn't really have stockings growing up. Stocking type gifts would be wrapped up under the tree instead. But we are going to do stockings this year for the DC. Are presents inside stockings generally wrapped or put in there loose? Thanks!

Growing up we had Christmases with them wrapped and some where they weren't - the ones where they had been wrapped we're by far the most exciting & meant that opening a stocking took 3 times as long!

It was also a different wrapping paper to under the tree too and also different between us

KittenVsXmastree · 09/12/2019 12:53

Hell no. Life is far too short to wrap stocking presents. The stocking is the wrapping!

But, I guess it depends on the stocking. Ours is an actual (large) sock so you still have to dig and pull stuff out. If it was a felt stocking, or sack, where items could just be tipped out, I guess wrapping makes more sense.

RaininSummer · 09/12/2019 12:55

Wrapped as half the fun comes from trying to guess what you have.

Trewser · 09/12/2019 12:55

Wrapped presents are so much more exciting!

ellenpartridge · 09/12/2019 12:55

No, the stocking is the wrapping

RomaineCalm · 09/12/2019 12:56

I wrap them, Father Christmas uses different paper to everyone else - both for stockings and for bigger gifts.

We have two identical stockings - an empty one gets hung up on Christmas Eve and the other is already filled with gifts so I just have to swap them over.

Biscuitsandteaplease · 09/12/2019 13:24

@RomaineCalm two stockings is genius

CountFosco · 09/12/2019 13:29

The sock is the wrapping. And in this season of excess reducing the paper that is used for wrapping present by using a reuseable stocking is a tiny nod towards trying to reducing our impact on the world. Going to try and wrap as many presents under the tree in reusable fabric as well this year.

MissDew · 09/12/2019 13:31

As a child mine were always unwrapped.

Me to. This phenomenon of wrapping stocking filler presents is completely alien to me !

statetrooperstacey · 09/12/2019 13:33

I Do 3 stockings but have 6 it’s easier to just swap an empty one for a full one than tip toe in sneak it out, fill and return. All ours are wrapped, different paper to presents from us. Something that i think father Xmas would choose and well Hidden.Grin and only one of mine still believes and I still do it!

RomaineCalm · 09/12/2019 13:37

I think it was a MN idea @Biscuitsandteaplease - not sure that I can take the credit but it saves messing about!

halcyondays · 09/12/2019 13:39

We never wrap them.

LadyCordeliaVorkosigan · 09/12/2019 13:42

Wrapped until it gets near midnight on Xmas Eve and I think fuck it, shove the remaining unwrapped small items in the right stockings, and knock back Santa's whisky...

fedup21 · 09/12/2019 13:43

We always wrapped the stocking presents loosely in tissue paper.

That’s what we do, too.

Thestinkycheeseman · 09/12/2019 13:46

Never wrapped stocking presents

WellTidy · 09/12/2019 13:49

I wrap stocking gifts in tissue paper. I buy it in bulk on amazon, and buy a different colour for each DC as I wrap the stocking gifts in advance. If I didn't use different colours for each DC, I'd never know what was what. I also buy sheets of personalised stickers on amazon, which say "To X, From Santa" and use these to seal the tissue.

caperplips · 09/12/2019 13:58

No wrapping and dc never tip them out, the fun is in putting your hand in and rummaging about to pull something out.
Santa never wraps any present here, nor did he when I was growing up.

ajandjjmum · 09/12/2019 14:02

We use different paper - after all, Father Christmas doesn't have the same as us! We also used to get someone to write labels, so a particular game or toy would say 'this is for trying so hard in Maths this term' etc.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/12/2019 14:11

Always wrapped here. We all open stockings on our bed and when DH and I return to bed that evening we find bits of wrapping paper- all part of the fun

takeyourcanvasbag · 09/12/2019 14:17

Stocking fillers wrapped in tissue paper.

YouFellAsleeep · 09/12/2019 14:18

I’ve never wrapped stocking presents and growing up, mine where never wrapped either. My son loves seeing all the things poking out the top.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 09/12/2019 14:38

Wrapped, it slows down the opening process and means DC can make a big wrapping paper mess on the bed with us, which just feels Christmassy! Different wrapping paper to ours though. Also I don't want them to see all the FC presents at once, I feel like one at a time is more likely to result in proper appreciation!

Father Christmas doesn't bring big presents in our house though, this year there are two toys for DD1 (5) from her list that were both between ten and twenty pounds, then it's bits and bobs, lots of chocolate. DD2 (14mo) will get books, clothes, and a bag of chocolate coins. Both will get (and ignore!) the obligatory satsuma.

Big presents are from mummy and daddy. I'm not letting the fat man take all the credit.... Xmas Grin

Dandelion1993 · 09/12/2019 14:44

I don't wrap stocking gifts. I honestly just cba by that point.

PassMeAnotherCoffee · 09/12/2019 15:03

Never had wrapped stocking presents as a child and have never wrapped my kids'. I thought they were fun enough as a child and my kids have had plenty of fun with them!
As others have said, the stocking is the wrapping. The different wrapping from presents from family and friends is part of what makes them special and fun.
I now can't imagine adding an extra layer of work to Christmas Xmas Grin.

Janus · 09/12/2019 16:31

Mixed!!
I don’t wrap the chocolate selection boxes, terry chocolate oranges or the satsumas! The rest gets wrapped in tissue paper which is basically scrunched over the gifts. I always use tissue paper only bought for Santa presents and not used for any presents that we give.
