Don't want anything too filling, but want something more exciting than toast/ cereal. Thought about a panettone, any other ideas please ?

How many people is it for gillys ?

HeronLanyon · 08/12/2019 22:55

Toasted panettone dipped in something nice (champagne/mimosa/cava etc) or tea I guess !

delilahbucket · 08/12/2019 22:56

We always have bacon sandwiches in nice bread with a mimosa (ds has fresh orange in a champagne flute which he thinks is amazing!)

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 08/12/2019 23:01

We get pastries, bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon and fresh juice.

Amiable · 08/12/2019 23:01

Family tradition is scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Super easy, a proper Xmas treat and delicious washed down with a glass or three of Buck's Fizz!

Threeminis · 08/12/2019 23:07

Scrambled eggs, posh bacon and croissants

Usually washed down with a glass bottle of Prosecco

DarkLikeVader · 08/12/2019 23:09

Toasted bagels with smoked salmon, with egg nog 😋 it’s the best breakfast.

BlueEyedFloozy · 08/12/2019 23:11

Tradition dictates we have croissants with Nutella and fresh orange with lemonade :o

GuyFawkesDay · 08/12/2019 23:14

Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs here too. With bucks fizz.

Kids tend to have croissants.....we may have some too 🙈

We don't eat lunch til 3/4pm so a hearty tasty brunch sees us through church and the Christmas dinner prep/Lego assembly hours

PurpleDaisies · 08/12/2019 23:15

Cinnamon buns with icing.
Jus rol ones are lovely.

Likethebattle · 08/12/2019 23:17

Toasted bagels with Philadelphia, smoked salmon and black pepper with nice lattes.

lifeisgoodagain · 08/12/2019 23:18

Bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon, or bacon and hollandais sauce and a poached egg...

Sourdough toasted topped with wilted spinach cooked in decadent amounts of butter, cream cheese and smoked salmon ... seriously yummy

Pipandmum · 08/12/2019 23:18

We do French toast with cinnamon and maple syrup and crispy bacon. It is filling but we don't have Christmas dinner till about 5.30.

RomaineCalm · 08/12/2019 23:21

Not sure it's particularly interesting but we usually have bacon rolls, sausages, some warm croissants and homemade jam, fruit compote, yogurt, granola and some nice juices/coffee.

In the past I've also added the part-baked bread that you finish off in the oven with cheese and ham/pâté.

It's always nicer when it's all laid out on the table rather than eaten on the hoof. We don't have Christmas dinner until 5pm so a big breakfast keeps us going for the day.

SexlessBoulderBelly · 08/12/2019 23:26

Crumpets! Or those thin crumpets, can’t remember their normal name, with something posh on like soft cheese and salmon.

Last year I did toasted bagels with smoked salmon and a poached egg. Fort time I’ve ever poached an egg and in doing it again this year. Was gorgeous!

unexpectedthird · 09/12/2019 08:32

These days we don't have a large Christmas breakfast as we try to keep mealtimes as normal as possible. (DS is autustic and the thought of not having 3 meals at the usual time boggles his mind)

We, therefore, have Christmas tree shaped crumpets, fruit, yogurt and usually some chocolate coins.

Lunch is usually cheese, pate, crudeties etc and the we have Christmas dinner at tea time.

MissE6791 · 09/12/2019 11:03

We have chocolate coins for breakfast Crown Blush Followed by mini croissants with sparkly jam from Fortnum & Mason. We are not breakfast eaters in general so keep it light so we can fit in Christmas dinner mid-afternoon.

WhatTheFronti · 09/12/2019 11:16

We do choc crossiants & fruit platter for the kids (summer so cherries/berries & watermelon etc) and smashed avo toast/proscuttio or fancy bacon/eggs for adults with sparkling Shiraz.

HoneyBee03 · 09/12/2019 11:50

Another one here who does bagels, soft cheese and salmon! Although relatives staying with us don't like salmon, so I will probably get some nice pastries in for them.

CJsGoldfish · 09/12/2019 11:58

We have this:
thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/baked-french-toast/
with maple syrup.

Definitely a once a year treat. SOOOOO good!

Littleshortcake · 09/12/2019 11:59

Christmas Tree shaped crumpets (if you can find them).

sohypnotic · 09/12/2019 12:01

M&S bake from frozen pain au chocolate and croissants, delicious, no prep just bung in oven

ConstanceL · 09/12/2019 12:02

Croissants and smoked salmon are our staple Christmas breakfast.

Disfordarkchocolate · 09/12/2019 12:03

Waffles this year, with maple syrup and fruit. Possibly some brandy cream too.

BiddyPop · 09/12/2019 12:07

Generally simple enough:
We usually squeeze a few oranges for juice.

I sometimes am organised enough to have a bowl of fresh fruit chopped in the fridge the night before - a couple of apples, some berries, maybe a peach/nectarine etc. Everyone helps themselves.

There is always a large cafetiere of coffee on the table, and a pot of tea as well.

We usually bake some pastries - either a pack of Jus-Rol croissants/pain-au-chocolats from the fridge (requires about 2 minutes work) or M&S raisin danishes/croissants from freezer (no work!).

If we are somewhat more peckish, someone might throw on a few eggs somehow, or put some bacon in the grill - there's always plenty of those in the house. Or there is always some chocolate floating around at Christmas to take the edge off.

If we had visitors, I would probably have nice bread for toasting and put out butter and a couple of jars of marmalade/jam on the table as well. But we tend to not eat that much bread ourselves.
