Christmas Present for awful SIL

BanKittenHeels · 02/12/2019 20:54

I hate my SIL, she hates me. I haven’t seen her in years, she has treated me appallingly in the past.
She will be at our family Christmas for the first time in 20 years, we have to get her Christmas present because she is the queen of petty and will get me one just go be seen go do so.

What the hell do you buy for someone you hate and have no clue as to their personal tastes?

Skipping getting her a present is not an option.

As soon as I saw this I thought Bayliss and Harding! I gave 6 of the bloody things to the school tombola last year!

neverornow · 02/12/2019 22:10

The more I hate the person the more I spend on them. It pisses them off even more if it's a great gift!

missnevermind · 02/12/2019 22:10

A pair of fluffy socks fron the pound shop.

SunshinePaddles · 02/12/2019 22:11

A potato in a box
Fowl smelling candle
Oil burner with a stinky fragrance
Cheap gift box
Box of chocolates with all your favorites taken out

😂

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 02/12/2019 22:12

Find out what kind of phone she has then get her a nice phone cover in the wrong make/size.

Trewser · 02/12/2019 22:13

A diet cookbook.

DamsonOnThisDress · 02/12/2019 22:18

M&S do a poinsettia in a gift bag. It's £3. It's not a great present but it's not the worst, looks quite sweet as a token gesture or add-on gift... but more to the point IT IS £3.

That and £5 tin of shortbread/biscuits from M&S and you've passed yourself with something not awful for less than a tenner.

DamsonOnThisDress · 02/12/2019 22:19

But I'd probably go with the donkey.

Or edible anus. Grin

msmith501 · 02/12/2019 22:21

Ironing board cover

linoleum · 02/12/2019 22:22

I’d get her a nice but bland present and take the moral high ground. Something like a nice bottle of wine/champagne/spirits and a box of chocolates. And accept that you’ll probably get the B&H gift box (or even the crappier tesco version which is what my SIL got me last year Hmm)

badguyduh · 02/12/2019 22:23

Do M&S still sell bottles of a chocolate+red wine drink? It's truly foul. Something like 'ruby cocoa' or something, like a liqueur? Ugh. Get that!

Shesalittlemadam · 02/12/2019 22:25

Put loads and loads of Merry Christmas Confetti in her card with a handful of glitter mixed in

thequeenoftarts · 02/12/2019 22:27

A giant dildo cos she is such a cunt lol

LazyDaisey · 02/12/2019 22:28

So many choices in the decorative home accessory section of your local TK Maxx. Or if you hurry, free click and collect on their website until midnight tonight and you can bag one of these treasures for under a tenner!

Dogno1 · 02/12/2019 22:31

One of those 'lady, or lord' land titles. Cost about £15 and worth zilch.

gamerchick · 02/12/2019 22:32

An etch a sketch in an iPad box?

Go with the smellys. There's plenty to choose from.

Pannalash · 02/12/2019 22:38

Sponsor a cow might be appropriate Crown Grin

Dogno1 · 02/12/2019 22:43

A calendar with family photos (obviously excluding any of her). State you wanted something personal that she can enjoy all year. Add a fluffy pen, and write in everyone's birthdays apart from hers.

bubblesforlife · 02/12/2019 22:57

I’m laughing at loud!!! Grin such hilarious responses

SleepWarrior · 02/12/2019 22:57

You are hosting her then?

Just put your feelings aside for 5 mins and get her something reasonable, doesn't even have to be special. Definitely not insulting though. A nice fluffy throw, a good quality smelly candle, fancy chocolates etc.

The responsibility of the host to not be rude and ungracious to any guest trumps whatever thing she's done to you in the past (in my opinion of course). If you can't even manage that I'd bow out for the day. If you can't leave because you have kids, then frankly it's back to being a good host - you don't want to send them the message that you can behave shittily to a guest and show them up with a terrible gift just because you don't like them...

You do have my sympathies though for having to spend Christmas with an awful relative though Flowers

chachachachachacha · 02/12/2019 23:06

Surely there's some amazing tat on Facebook Marketplace you could get her!

Chilledout11 · 02/12/2019 23:11

I would get a candle and small box of chocolates. Or photo frame.

shouldntBeButIAm · 02/12/2019 23:18

My mother in law got me wrinkle cream for my birthday.

Apparently it's not insulting as it was Clarins and being a good make it's ok and thoughtful (as my husband tried to explain to me).

It says everything whilst still being a gift.

I got the message!

Dogno1 · 02/12/2019 23:30

One of those foot scrubbers from the Betterware/Kleeneze catalogue you stick to the bottom of the bath, and add your choice of body wash... I have been the lucky previous recipients of one of these, and am happy to post it to you (boxed/unused 🙄). You could pair it up with some poundland/savers 'beauty bargains', to produce a thoughtful pamper hamper.
