How do you treat yourself at christmas

Every year I buy myself a cinnamon Yankee candle and a present.

THis year I breached out to A wood wick caNile. Present was a Fjallraven Kanken Backpack (I’m too old I know😊).

Am I the only person who buys them-self a gift. I just got fed up spending hundreds of pounds on everyone else and not getting a treat myself.

I do get lovely presents - but this way I also get one I really really want.

Yep, the cat normally buys me a present. Xmas Grin I don't see any harm in buying yourself what you want, like you said, at least you know you'll like it! Xmas Grin

CupCupGoose · 25/11/2019 07:33

I mught do this for myself this year. My kids are too young to get me anything and DH makes no effort so I might treat myself this year. A book, face mask, naice box of chocolates that I won't share! My birthday is just before Christmas too.

lotusbell · 25/11/2019 07:42

I buy.myself all the treats, mainly festive candles. For the past 2 years I've been lucky enough to have 2 weeks off at Christmas but this year is the first year I'll be getting paid for it so that's my treat. Intending to do a lot if reading over the break.

Cherryrainbow · 25/11/2019 07:47

I bought myself a pair of black diamond earrings and a bottle of perfume. When I was a single mum I bought myself bits to unwrap xmas morning so it's nice to have some treats! Didn't give my bf a list this year so who knows what I'll end up with haha

Bickles · 25/11/2019 07:54

Why doesn’t your DH make an effort? Do you make an effort for him?
I give DH some ideas and he does me a stocking full of treats. I do him one too.
My favourite is posh bath oil.

AuntieMarys · 25/11/2019 07:57

You need to raise your expectations and standards! A Dh who makes no effort? Fed up of spending £100s on others and nothing in return? Stop doing it!

Dollymixture22 · 25/11/2019 08:02

I’m single😊

So get lovely gifts from my parents and sister. But not that big special one I would get from a husband/boyfriend.

But I also don’t have to buy a big partner present - so I buy that for myself😊

That’s a good reason Flowers

Ragwort · 25/11/2019 08:13

I buy for myself Blush, in our family we don’t actually exchange many gifts so I don’t have the stress of buying for many people, DH and I choose our own presents (after years of getting it wrong on both sides Grin), my parents always give me a generous cheque, and absolutely hate receiving anything back except a charity goat type gift. My best friend and I are having a spa day together.

Things I choose are Badedas bubble bath, scented candle, Bendicks chocolates.

ICantSweat · 25/11/2019 08:17

Never too old for a backpack!

Pickled walnuts.

Tangerines (I only eat them at Christmas so they are the taste of Christmas for me.)
A Christmas tree or failing that a candle that smells of one.
Turkish delight. Again strictly a Christmas taste.

WalkAwaySugarbear · 25/11/2019 08:20

I buy my own and wrap them, do it early enough and it will be a surprise as you'll forget you did it.

BiddyPop · 25/11/2019 09:52

DH does buy me a present, which is usually thoughtful of him but quite often I am scratching my head slightly (like a really nice lunchbox for my salads for work, or a new teapot when the old one had lost its lid - but then a dyson hairdryer another year). So he has thought about things that I use and that he thinks would be good, but often I am slightly Hmm about them. But I can see his thought process.

I don't usually buy myself a present, but I will make sure that I get myself something that I would like to indulge myself with - like amaretto to drink and amaretti biscuits, even though no one else in the house likes them. I also buy bacon pringles as the teen adores those, and Christmas craft beers as DH likes those. So I am not leaving them out.

popcorndiva · 25/11/2019 11:17

I always treat myself. Birthday is end of November so always spend some of the money I get for that on nice make up, some nice toiletries that smell of Christmas. I always treat myself to a nice outfit for Christmas day that usually then lasts me for other special occasions

I have to send a list to DH as he has no imagination. Some years I have even wrapped his gifts to me as otherwise I would be handed them in the parcel. Not doing that this year but leaving him enough wrap and sellotape to do it.

Deminism · 25/11/2019 11:19

My mum usually gives me money as my gift and I make sure I spend it on me - sometimes a nice haircut, or a piece of clothing. Last year I spent it in Dec before I got it, but I did get it - phew! She gives it to me as cash and it is really easy to let it just go on day to day spending so I like to keep it separate and pay for the things I buy myself in cash.

missyB1 · 25/11/2019 11:30

I get lovely presents off Dh but I still by myself a white company Christmas candle every year.

Natsku · 25/11/2019 11:41

If I were single I'd buy a nice present for myself too OP.

I tell my bloke what to buy me - this year nice chocolates, bottle of port, and a self-cleaning litter tray (or could I say that's the cat's present and demand something else for me... hmm)

PhilomenaButterfly · 25/11/2019 11:45

I've bought myself Christmas tree earrings, I'll probably buy myself a few more little bits too, and we each get a present bought with Nectar points (£10 each so far).

PlausibleSuit · 25/11/2019 11:50

My Christmas treat is that DH and I now go away to a luxury hotel for Christmas every year. So neither of us has to cook turkey an unforgiving meat or see our awful challenging families.

CrowleysBentley · 25/11/2019 12:19

I don't count the Christmas scented candles as being for me really, they are part of the Christmas decorations, making the house smell Christmassy (I have bought a woodwick layered one, a yankee candle sparkling cinnamon and the neom Christmas one, so far).

I'm still looking for a good replacement for the lovely woodwick biscotti one that I bought a few Christmases in a row, and they have now discontinued. It smelled like warm gingerbread, and made the whole place smell like Christmas.

Mintjulia · 25/11/2019 12:33

Ds gets upset if I have fewer presents under the tree than him Smile so this year I will have a new mascara, eye shadow palette, a book, 6 hand made truffles, some new undies, maybe a couple of other bits.

If we have a good quarter, what I really want is a new front door. Grin The current one.is rotten at the bottom and drafty. Probably not very secure either.

lotusbell · 26/11/2019 20:23

@CrowleysBentley, I loved that one too! I've discovered Bath and Bodyworks candles from America. Really gorgeous Christmassy scents and great throw.

DookofBust · 26/11/2019 20:32

I am newly divorced and I will definitely be embracing buying myself a nice present (wrapped from DD)!

Not sure what yet though!

HappySonHappyMum · 26/11/2019 20:37

I bought myself a present yesterday - I bought a Lego Harry Potter Knight bus. Have been wanting one forever. I have a small family and my DH and I agree not to buy gifts for each other, there's only 3 other people who would buy me anything and two of them usually give money or joint gifts as they're OAPs! Feel quite excited. I don't mind sorting gifts and buying stuff for everyone else but sometimes I'd like someone else to put as much effort into buying gifts for me as I do for them…

Dollymixture22 · 26/11/2019 20:41

That’s a brilliant gift - makes my back pack look very dill😊

UrsulaPandress · 26/11/2019 20:44

Turkish delight.
