Cool eco idea or naff Christmas fail?

Thought I'd try making some re-usable gift bags from scraps and unused fat quarters. These two are from a now-too-small Christmas jumper. What would you think if you received a gift in one? Would you re-use? I think I'll make a personalised re-usable gift tag for each recipent as well, but don't want to go to the effort if it's all a bit naff! Could do brown paper instead which is recyclable, but obviously not as good for the environment as using something I already have which can then be re-used as well.

I think they are brilliant and would be very happy to receive one.

CupCupGoose · 21/11/2019 15:28

And yes I'd reuse.

LutherRalph1 · 21/11/2019 15:30

I'd love to receive one and I'd definitely reuse - great idea!

KatnissMellark · 21/11/2019 15:31

Thanks @CupCupGoose, you see such divided opinions re homemade gifts in here so was a bit worried. Gifts themselves are not homemade so hopefully won't be too controversial!

I would love to receive a gift in one if those. Were I the giver, I would ask for the bag back ready for next year if given to close family who would not think I was being odd!

RightOnTheEdge · 21/11/2019 15:35

They look great. I'd love to receive one Smile

Bluntness100 · 21/11/2019 15:37

If I'm honest I'm not sure I would re use, I'm not sure I have anything to reuse them for. I already have a make up bag, it's leather and wipeable, I have a toiltetries bag, so I'm afraid they'd go in a drawer here somewhere.

KatnissMellark · 21/11/2019 15:37

@PandaG I may do that, or perhaps I'll receive back next year with my gift in!

I’d be properly chuffed to get a gift in one!

I’d ‘reuse’ for DH/the kids so that I get to keep it! Or I’d sift stuff it and use it as deco! - small person would probably adopt it as a new ‘cuddly friend’🤣

Was it you who posted for suggestions for your craft stall (and asking about placemats?)

IncrediblySadToo · 21/11/2019 15:42

I’d give it back to you if you asked, but reluctantly! It would be like giving the best bit of your pudding away!

NewErin1 · 21/11/2019 15:42

Love it!!

KronksSpinachPuffs · 21/11/2019 15:45

Love them! I'm not a fan of homemade gists but these are ace. I'd probably want to keep it rather than give them to someone else! Smile

MistressMind · 21/11/2019 15:52

Amazing! I absolutely love these. Jumper sleeves for bottle bags is genius. Also if you unpicked them along the seam and fold the other way you might be able to get a medium squareish bag for chocolates, books etc.

Autumntoowet · 21/11/2019 15:55

Lovely
😊

81Byerley · 21/11/2019 15:57

@Bluntness100 I think the OP means would you save them and use them to wrap someone else's presents next year?
I think they are brilliant. A really good idea. My daughter has birthday present fabric that she uses for her family's presents, just using ribbon to tie them up.

PanemEtCircenses · 21/11/2019 15:58

I’d like these. I’d use them afterwards for storing delicate Christmas decorations, as I usually do with paper gift bags/boxes and tissue paper.

The only people I wouldn’t give them to (if I was talented enough to make them, which I’m not) are small children who derive so much pleasure from tearing paper wrapping.

IggyAce · 21/11/2019 15:59

I like them, I once made a fab bottle bag from an old pair of jeans. If I received one I’d probably save the bag to re use next year for someone else’s gift.

foobio · 21/11/2019 16:04

I like them and would reuse them for gifts. My mum has various Christmas fabric and ribbons that get cycled around the family for wrapping.

Bluntness100 · 21/11/2019 16:07

Ah thanks 81, and if it's to pass them on then yes, possibly/probably. It depends, if I had anything to fit in them and who the recipient was.

MistressMind · 21/11/2019 16:11

Anyone who doesn't want to keep and reuse them to others can always give them back to OP. We have a few shoeboxes covered in Christmas paper that get passed back and forth around the extended family. It's a kind of bonus if you're chosen to get a box that year!

SinkGirl · 21/11/2019 16:12

I love them and would use them as project bags for my knitting and crochet

raffle · 21/11/2019 16:18

I would love that! It would look so pretty under the tree. Then I would put presents in it the following year and pass it in to someone else

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 21/11/2019 16:20

I'd love them. I'd reuse as gift bags or store Christmas bits and pieces in them.

FrogCat · 21/11/2019 16:24

They’re cute and a great idea. I’d be happy to receive.

OlderthenYoungerNow · 21/11/2019 16:25

I agree - would reuse and love to receive.
