Pil like playing boardgames together, but only really play the classics so far, was looking to get them something more modern and was thinking of ticket to ride since it is mentioned on here alot but just seen its 3 - 5 players :(

Any suggestions for similar games that can be played just the two of them

Codenames Duet
Qwirkle

Both perfect with two players

SisterA · 17/11/2019 20:29

We recently got pandemic and it's very good! Awww also like it because although there are lots of rules and it's quite intricate when it gets going the game lasts a good amount of time. You don't fly though it but it doesn't drag on at all.

Bigoldwimp · 17/11/2019 20:32

I quite like Hanabi, it’s a longer play with two player but co operative. My husband and I play ticket to ride on our phones against each other, which seems anti social but is quite fun! The apps for games like Agricola and catan etc are pretty high quality. Love letters is also worth a google

Greedytiger · 17/11/2019 20:33

Another quote for sequence

UnaOfStormhold · 17/11/2019 20:40

Some of the games mentioned (Catan in particular because a lot if the fun comes from trading with different players) are great games but not so good for two - though the link I posted above does give a newer variant which is 2 player-friendly. I'm a big fan of Dominion which is good as a 2 player game.

neverknowingwhy · 17/11/2019 20:44

Rivals of Catan is amazing. It's a 2 player version of catan. Agricola also good and Dominion as pp have Said.

Batqueen · 17/11/2019 20:47

Schotten totten is a really fun small game for two. Dp and I play it more than any other!

hels71 · 17/11/2019 20:54

Dh and I enjoy 221b baker street.

Mumofboys1 · 17/11/2019 21:04

Hi, my DH and I love playing board games together too, but struggle to find good ones for two adults. We do play scrabble, and the other one (but it is a bit limited given you only get a set amount of cards) was Logo :)

Following for ideas!

BoardGamePrincess3 · 17/11/2019 21:46

Me and my husband, are very into our board games. We enjoy playing them with our kids if we can as well.
Stone age
Fog of love
Tiny epic games
Pandemic
Carcassone
Exit games
Ticket to ride (can be done as a two player)
Codenamed duet
Game of thrones card game
Small world
Ashes (quiet intense)

redexpat · 17/11/2019 22:42

Splendor is good with 2. Its a very different game with 3 or 4!

VolcanionSteamArtillery · 17/11/2019 22:50

Lords of waterdeep. As good with 2 as 5. Proper fabulous game

Yy to ticket to ride and varients. Any of them work.

Puerto Rico works 2 players

Yy to Dominion but i wouldnt pick it over waterdeep or ticket to ride. You want those 2 first

If you want something a bit different look at Whitechapel, or its smaller cousin whitehall.

I wouldnt pick Azul. Not when you were starting a collection as it seems to be a bit of a marmite game. People love it or hate it. The rest are a guaranteed win.

milienhaus · 17/11/2019 22:54

I would second all of Splendor, Shotten Totten, Hanabi, Ticket to Ride Nordic for 2 players - Splendor is our favourite.

Be1atrix · 17/11/2019 23:11

DW and I LOVE board games. We've got a local board games cafe where we go and try games out, and if we like them, we buy them.

Absolute 2 player faves:

Jaipur
Pandemic
Othello
Carcassone
Rummikub

Woodfield17 · 18/11/2019 06:47

Ticket to ride Nordic countries is the title of the Scandinavian one mentioned above. Not many multiplayer games are also good with two but some are. When looking at a game check out the games entry on the website boardgamegeek as users will give their the thoughts on player count 'plays best with' and recommend or not recommended with different numbers. Of the ones mentioned above Carcassonne gets a best with two recommendation. There are tonnes of two player only games as well - if you are close to one, go to a board game cafe and try before you buy. Have fun!

spinningpenguin · 18/11/2019 06:59

We love and play all of these: Carcassonne, Mr Jack (its designed for just two players) , Quirkle, Kingdomino, Pandemic (this one co-operative, the aim is to prevent world wide desease), Blokus.

DriftingLeaves · 18/11/2019 07:00

Ticket to Ride

Turniptracker · 18/11/2019 07:02

Azul is great and quite different. Even my mum managed to pick up how to play it!

Woodfield17 · 18/11/2019 07:25

+1 for Azul. Great with 2 and equally good with 3&4. Some great 2 player card games are Lost Cities & Schotten Totten and two good dice rolling games for two players only are Memoir 44 (WW2 themed game published by same company as ticket to ride) and Star Wars Risk which is themed on the last 30 minutes of Return of the Jedi.

Theflying19 · 18/11/2019 07:57

Bohnanza is a great little card game about planting and harvesting beans. Plays well with two with dedicated dual rules, and can be played by up to 7 with main gmae rules. We also enjoy playing Splendor with 2 people, and another vote for Rummikub.

30daysoflight · 18/11/2019 08:01

Yahtzee not new but still fab

TaurielTest · 18/11/2019 10:50

You have had some great recommedations, let me add 2 more for games that are specifically designed for 2:

Odin's Ravens
7 Wonders Duel

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 18/11/2019 10:54

Tiny Epic Galaxies is good with two, and pretty easy to pick up.

ForTheFew · 18/11/2019 10:55

The updated, 2016 version of Classic Trivial Pursuit. Good fun!
