Just that really! I’ve never had it and am intrigued!😋

I like the fruit ones sliced and toasted. Don't like the chocolate ones, and I nearly let fly in Wilkos the other day when I saw a pumpkin flavour, at least I think I did, writing it it sounds impossible, so maybe it was a bad dream!

Trainofhearts · 16/11/2019 14:56

I LOVE it. I have one as a treat every year to eat after dog walks during the 12 days of Christmas. Delicious toasted.
One year dh got me something else which looked similar but was NOT the same and I was gutted!

viques · 16/11/2019 14:59

OMG! It was true. I googled, and it was there. WHy Wilko, Why? Just because you can doesn't mean you should...

Throw the whole shop in the bin!

Evilmorty · 16/11/2019 15:03

If you have a good Italian shop near you, get one from there, they are much better. I bought it a few years and no one ate to so I had it toasted or made bread pudding from it.

LatteLady · 16/11/2019 15:14

We always make a bread and butter pudding from it, it tastes delicious although that might be the brandy...

AdaColeman · 16/11/2019 15:16

I usually have some in for a quick breakfast, I like the Crosta & Mollica ones as there is nowhere nearby that makes their own.

I have the chocolate chip version with apricot jam.
I also like pan d'oro (similar to a sponge cake) especially with soft cream cheese and black cherry jam.

GoodwithRocksandGems · 16/11/2019 15:18

Overrated.

Babymamamama · 16/11/2019 15:21

In our house it’s all about the Pan d’oro. Far superior. Light fluffy with a dusting of vanilla icing sugar.

PegasusReturns · 16/11/2019 15:26

Never fancied it previously but an Italian colleague brought some over from Italy and OMG it was amazing!

I got a pretty good one from carluccios last year.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 16/11/2019 15:28

It makes a spectacular bread and butter pudding!

AgentProvocateur · 16/11/2019 15:28

Toasted with a scoop of nice ice cream and some Pedro Ximinez poured over the top.... Delicious.

HappyHammy · 16/11/2019 15:28

The best one I had was mini panettone from lidl. No dried fruit. It was delicious warm with butter.

30to50FeralHogs · 16/11/2019 15:33

I always buy a couple for Xmas day breakfast - fruity one for me and a choc one for the DCs.

The star shaped ones look lovely if you slice then stagger the slices to look like a Xmas tree, sprinkled with icing sugar.

We then have it with butter or dunked in chocolate fondue. Toasted the next day and any leftovers get made into bread and butter pudding.

DontCallMeShitley · 16/11/2019 15:34

Stale Hot Cross buns with air holes in but bigger and without the cross.

I had one given to me every year for far too long, one year it had chestnut puree in so was able to eat the moist bits but oh dear, the rest of them were foul.

Bread pudding is much better.

Egg · 16/11/2019 15:54

Only good if you eat a whole large one to yourself.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/11/2019 19:08

I never bother.
We've been give it as a present and all I can say is that the birds certainly enjoyed the vast majority of it.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/11/2019 22:19

I got a Lemon one years ago but never found another (it had no fruit or chocolate but layers in lemon curd running through it)

TBH , I'd just buy a Brioche .

I tried the Nigella Christmas Bundt Tree Cake . It was 'ok' not worth the effort though . And the next day it was like flabby , day old pancakes Xmas Hmm

WagtailRobin · 17/11/2019 02:41

I've never tried it and after seeing one sliced in the M&S Christmas advert I can safely say it doesn't look like something I would like, I am not a fan of raisins/sultanas etc.

SnowsInWater · 17/11/2019 03:53

The ones I buy (not in UK) are not too sweet so a slice is lovely with my morning coffee. It doesn't need anything added. It makes a great bread and butter pudding as well.

Sgtmajormummy · 17/11/2019 04:58

54 million Panettone are sold in Italy every year. That’s basically one for every man, woman and child!
It follows that there is a huge variety of quality (not always the best ones are exported, I’m afraid) and there are lots sold off for pennies in the New Year.
My favourite industrial brand is Le Tre Marie from Milan, the home of the Panettone, which uses beautiful fragrant fruit and peel.

A word of warning about artisanal Panettoni. They are delicious when fresh but dire when stale. Natural products, obviously.
I worked with a high quality artisanal yeast and bread starter company. We got samples from the training kitchen at coffee break and they were TO KILL FOR. They gave me a Panettone for Christmas but it went uneaten for 10 days. I opened it to a huge fanfare and... meh. No better than Tre Marie.

GlamGiraffe · 17/11/2019 05:28

A good panettone is heavenly.
I have it with my coffee in the morning, childishly dipped in part.
A poor pannettone - rough dry foam with the occasional raisin thrown in, a complete waste of time and a totally depressing experience.
Lemon ones are just a bit lovely too!

MrsBartlet · 17/11/2019 08:34

We stuff ours with ice cream and then serve slices with cream as a Christmas dessert. Always goes down well!

SoftBlocks · 17/11/2019 08:36

Carluccios one toasted with butter is lovely.
