What would be a nice £30ish gift to receive from your daughter that loves you very much and is fed up of giving you marmalade and biscuits that you very graciously pretend to to love?

Bonus points for gift ideas for your slightly churlish older husband who's retired and has no hobbies other than the Masons.

A nice bottle of gin and a gin glass 🙂

RickOShay · 10/11/2019 08:31

Some Jo Malone bath oil.

marezeedotes · 10/11/2019 08:32

Oh thank you @Mollpop - you already have more glasses (and crockery, and mugs, and everything) than any human could need, but gin is a good suggestion. What would be a nice gin, please?

I love a lot of the stuff other people claim is boring.
I would be over the moon with something like a rosemary or maple bush in a pretty pot.
I'd love a pair of coloured leather gloves from M&S (£20) in a colour that really works with a coat or outfit my fictitious daughter knows I already have.
Verveine/verbena bubble bath from L'Occitane - a big bottle of that must cost about £30 by now.

Daffodil101 · 10/11/2019 08:33

A Molton Brown reed diffuser. More like £40 but I was given one for my birthday last December and it’s still going strong. I have the bergamot one, it’s lovely

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 10/11/2019 08:33

Jo malone stuff for me
Gin and posh chocs for himself

afternoonspray · 10/11/2019 08:34

@marezeedotes - one of the flavoured gins maybe? Rhubarb or rose or seville orange.

isabellerossignol · 10/11/2019 08:35

Jawbox is a nice gin and around the £30 Mark.

I was going to suggest that a day out with the loving daughter might be nice? Take your mum out for afternoon tea/to the theatre/chocolate making course/craft course whatever might be a nice way to pass the day?

DarkMutterings · 10/11/2019 08:36

Husband a collection/book of political cartoons from one of the artists doing the telegraph or the times like Peter Brookes

Mum afternoon tea, just the two of you away from the husband (and any kids if you gave them)

BillywilliamV · 10/11/2019 08:36

I would like a bead for my Nomination bracelet, perfume or I make broad hints about something beautiful from the local craft centre
I'd be mildly insulted by marmalade, it's a bit of an old lady present.

Herocomplex · 10/11/2019 08:37

Doesn’t she ever comment on things she likes in magazines or out shopping? What does she treat herself to? Is she a cook, gardener, reader, dancer, swimmer, walker, filmgoer? Does she like nice pens or stationery?

FantailsFly · 10/11/2019 08:37

Really luxurious hand cream.

Mollpop · 10/11/2019 08:38

I'd recommend Bombay Sapphire or Tanquerays. Some of the flavoured gins are lovely but it would depend on her taste. Some nice tonic water (Fever Tree or similar) as well. Otherwise she won't be able to have a G and T until she's been shopping for tonic.

You can also get a selection of miniature gins in gift boxes.

I know far too much about this 🙂

Ellabella989 · 10/11/2019 08:39

Sipsmith Lemon Drizzle Gin
M&S cosy pj’s

orangeteal · 10/11/2019 08:40

Experience present. Is there something you can buy for them to do together, or could you buy her a ticket to something you could do together? I take my mum to the theatre.

RJnomore1 · 10/11/2019 08:40

One of the craft gin boxes made up as a hamper. You’ll get a referral on the Christmas referral thread which gives you it for £20 just remember to cancel. It’s well worth it having bought one for myself. And a nice xmassy book to read while enjoying it.

A Bluetooth shower speaker maybe for him. Or a voucher for a local restaurant so he can take your mum ?

Redspider1 · 10/11/2019 08:40

Theatre voucher.

AuntieMarys · 10/11/2019 08:41

Silent Pool gin.
Clarins body lotion.
White Company diffuser.

PermanentTemporary · 10/11/2019 08:41

Theatre tokens.
Book tokens
A pledge to take me out for cocktails.
The booker prize winning book (both of them).
Bouquet of flowers.
Leather gloves.
A really nice tshirt.
Brexit hamper (food from European countries, some loo roll and a 5 euro note).

BIWI · 10/11/2019 08:44

Gin always good Grin

A magazine subscription? Could work for husband as well, although I think there are fewer magazines that might work for him.
Definitely something like afternoon tea with lovely daughter
A table for two (for DM and DF) for dinner in a nice local restaurant?

Stuff:

Perfume (as long as you know what she likes) - similarly aftershave for DF
Hotel chocolat Christmas chocolates
A selection of good books - again depending on knowing what kind of fiction she/he likes to read

Or vouchers. People are often sniffy about vouchers, but if you bought me some Lakeland vouchers I'd be delighted! Similarly for books, or Amazon.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 10/11/2019 08:45

Whitley Neil make lovely gin-it’s around £21 at the moment-you could then get capers/juniper berries etc to put in it

For gin I am.hoping my daughters would go for Jawbox, Caroun(sp) or Isle of Harris.
Jewellery with sea glass, amber or gemstones.
Voucher for facial or massage

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 10/11/2019 08:51

I am in the position of your mother, and I can tell you exactly what presents I love most from my children. Not something generic like bath oil or gin. But something that shows they know me and have put some personal thought into it - it is the thinking I find touching and makes me value the gift, not its price.

If it is something I can use every day that’s even better as then every day I get a little reminder of their love for me.

So things like a cute umbrella with dogs on because I was in love with our puppy, or a book light so I can read in bed at night without disturbing my husband, or a book they thought I would like that they had read, or pretty slippers as I get cold feet...just so many thoughtful things which I love using and treasure because it’s from them.

Good luck in your search!

Medievalist · 10/11/2019 08:53

Also wouldn't go for a flavoured gin as they're not to some people's taste (dsis lives gin but hated the rhubarb gin she got for Xmas last year).

Great idea above to get a single craft gin box. I've been getting them this year and they're fabulous - come with a full bottle of gin, interesting tonic, dried fruit or spices to add and unusual snacks.

£40 but 30% off at the moment. You can cancel at any time so presumably could do so after the first one.

Or Hendricks, Caorunn, Tarquinn are my favourites.
