How many presents in total do you think your kids get?

Been reading some threads in this topic which has made me think.

If you totalled up the number of gifts your primary aged child unwrapped on Christmas morning, how many gifts do you think it would be??

Stockings here have books, socks, some chocolate, a small toy/game, activity book sort of stuff, all from Santa.

Then, presents from us, and a present from my parents. Until last year, there would have also been a gift from their great grandmother. So, perhaps 5 wrapped things. If you include everything (so, the random box of chocolate from the friend down the street, a £5 from Uncle Bob etc etc) how many presents would you guess?

25-30 ( from myself and dp around 10 each. GPS both sides included10.Aunts and cousins 5-10 depending on cost of gifts)

EmmiJay · 09/11/2019 19:51

DD is an only child so she gets tons from me alone. Then shes the only granddaughter so she gets a whole other set from the rest of the family. Last year she probably got around 40 gifts (20 were from me).

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 09/11/2019 19:54

5 from Santa, about the same in stockings. 2 from me and dh. 2 from grandparents, 1 from great grandparents and 1 from aunt. So around 16 total.

gumdrop2 · 09/11/2019 19:58

Mine both have 11 each at the moment but they will get around 25 each to open from me and dh. It doesn't look like a lot at the moment though as my DD wanted the Lol bike and lol chalet which were really expensive but she's only little once. My Ds pile looks small because he's stuff is cheaper than hers

livingthegoodlife · 09/11/2019 20:02

Around 20

DeanImpala67 · 09/11/2019 20:03

Mine are on about 35 at the moment, that's in total from everyone who gets them anything. This includes stocking fillers such as sweets and socks etc. Seems a lot now I have counted it up!!

Themadcleaner · 09/11/2019 20:04

Not huge amounts, maybe 8 wrapped little things in stocking, similar to your items op. From us maybe 4 or 5 to open, then a couple or 3 from each side of grandparent's, 1 from uncle and 1 from the dog! . I do feel a bit sad when I see people with huge extended families who have vast amounts to open but our families are both really small and they get presents they really enjoy and appreciate

ColdRainAgain · 09/11/2019 20:08

Interesting. I knew we would be low on the stuff from other people bit (DHs family dont do Christmas, and my side is very small), but didnt realise how low the parental bit would be.

I wonder if this is why, even as an adult, I like stockings - and anyone sleeping in this house on Christmas Eve gets a stocking - because that is actually where the most "things" are.

lyingwanker · 09/11/2019 20:10

Around 20/25 each maybe but it depends on what they've asked for.

I probably buy them 10-15
Grandparents 5
Aunts 5
Random gifts from friends/school etc 2-5

starrynight19 · 09/11/2019 20:11

Mine probably have 10-15 little cheap gifts in their stocking. Then maybe around 20 gifts to open as their main gifts. Then maybe another 10 from family and friends.

Elbeagle · 09/11/2019 20:13

Probably about 8 from me and DH. Not sure about the stocking... 10 maybe? 1 from my mum, 1 from my dad, 1 from IL’s, 1 from SIL, 1 from my cousin, 2 of my friends tend to buy them something... so quite a lot. Stocking stuff is things like a chocolate Santa, or a lip balm, or some hair clips.

Shitfuckoh · 09/11/2019 20:16

This year is different for all sorts of reasons but mainly due to single parent household.

15 from me / Santa
1 (that i know of) from their Dad
2 from Grandparents
5? tree gifts from my friends

Stocking not included

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/11/2019 20:19

On Christmas morning? Maybe 1 or 2 each since we will be on holiday

In total..
Stocking - quite a few but it's stationary, scout badges, toiletries, a book etc
From us, Santa and sister- 4 or 5
From Pils- 6 or 7
My parents- 10+ since my mum has a tendency to go overboard
1 each from 2 uncles
1 from cousins
4 or 5 from other relatives
2 from godparents

So 30+ each. But does include practical things, clothes and books. Sounds massive written down like that. Blush

DottieLottie1 · 09/11/2019 20:22

Mine get around 50 from us but.... I wrap everything individually to make it more fun and seemingly bulk it out. So a set of 5 socks gets wrapped into 10, likewise pants 😳😂 it's also comedy value! Then another 10 from family.

WeCameToDanceWithTheDead · 09/11/2019 20:28

I would hazard a guest of around 40 for 3 year old ds and 25 for 18 month old dd. Not all from me and dh though! My mum goes completely overboard as do my grandparents. Dh side of the family buy quite a bit too but they tend to buy more puzzles, board games and books rather than toys thankfully!. It's a lot and I'm unsure where it's going to all go to be quite frank.

Lc2006 · 09/11/2019 20:41

Stocking from santa with around 10 items
5 presents under tree from santa
5 from us
8 from other family members

Slappadabass · 09/11/2019 20:49

Probably between 20-30, depending on the size and cost. I love them having a big pile on Christmas day. They have a big sack each that is always full if not over flowing. I know it's not really the done thing anymore, but it's what I got as a kid and I loved it, Christmas day was absolutely amazing. And for me there's nothing better than seeing my kids faces on Christmas morning, I love it!

But, now my eldest is nearing teen years her amount is going down as the cost of things are shooting up, like she wants a tablet for Xmas but a fancy artist one with a pen, I still bulk things out with little gifts though, some cheap things like bath bombs/fave chocolates/make up maybe a couple of more expensive things like clothes/CDs/Games so she will have lots to open but one main expensive gift.

Slappadabass · 09/11/2019 20:50

And that's just from us...Family mainly give money so they can choose what they want or save it.

clareykb · 09/11/2019 20:53

Sticking from Santa maybe 3 each from us and 2 each from each set of grandparents and 4 each from aunt's and uncles then a few more so probably 15 max but I still feel that's plenty. We do do quite high value stockings though

Lima45 · 09/11/2019 21:01

Way too many. About 6 to 8 from us (including one big one from santa and stocking presents)

But both me and dp have massive families and no matter what we say they all buy for her.

So there's always a huge mound to open on Christmas day

Lovemusic33 · 09/11/2019 21:07

Teen dd’s. Won’t be getting as much this year as I’ve gone for quality over quantity. Probably 5 gifts each and a stocking which contains around ten small gifts (hair bands, socks, toiletries, chocolate etc..).

LustigLustig · 09/11/2019 21:07

On Christmas Day itself, they will each have about 6 or 7 (mainly edible) little presents in their stocking, probably 3 from DH and me, one from each other.
Then I imagine there will be gifts from family members we are spending Christmas Day with. I don't know how many presents that would be - maybe 5.
So could be 16 on Christmas Day itself.
They will also doubtless receive presents from godparents and other family members, but that won't be on Christmas Day itself.

colouringinpro · 09/11/2019 21:13

Why TF are you asking this question?

ColdRainAgain · 09/11/2019 22:11

@colouringinpro why not?? Didnt think it was offensive. Just intrigued by how long some people lists of "Ive got this for DS is it enough" and thinking that's more than my kids get in total. Looks like kids this this house are hard done by. Better get the credit card out!!! Disclaimer: I've not started Christmas shopping yet, but I wont go into debt over it.

In our house it isn't about the number of presents they get. I have 3 DS and they may get 3 presents from us (a book, new pyjamas and a main present) or 6 presents from us (a book, new pyjamas and 3 small presents) (plus a handful of little stocking fillers) Similar from the grand parents it might be one present or 5 presents depending on cost. All of us set a budget and they get items they need/want from within that budget - sometimes one big and other times lots of little. We are very lucky to have a big family but if we didn't, I would not spend more just to have 'a big pile'.
