What goes in your Xmas Eve box?

Found a lovely big box while out shopping today, wondering what others put in theirs for Advent or Xmas Eve?

If for 1st Dec I'm thinking I can put things in that are used all month so maybe better value... also DD turns 6 a couple days after 25th so Xmas things go away and Birthday things come out quickly.

Ideas list under consideration so far:

Xmas PJs
Chocolate coins
Advent Calendar - wrapped up as a present
Oranges/satsumas
Xmas teddy bear - DD adores anything soft and furry
Furry xmas blanket
Xmas themed hot water bottle
Hot chocolate packet or set
Xmas jumper - school will have a jumper day before the end of term
Xmas hair slides or similar
Xmas bubble bath or bath bomb if I can find one
Small size Xmas mug/cup - can find one in a £1 shop
Xmas craft bits - DD loves making stuff

There are bits I can put in that are not new but from storage:

Xmas pudding bobble hat
Xmas Books
Xmas baking cutters

That's obviously too much, but anyone do anything more original?

I keep ours very simple:
A new decoration for each child to put on the tree
A Christmas themed book
A new DVD (not always Christmas themed)

NoWordForFluffy · 04/11/2019 07:35

We have:

The stockings;
The sacks;
The Santa plate;
The Night Before Christmas book; and
Pyjamas (which will then get worn until they grow out of them).

Only the pyjamas are new, and then they'll be worn for ages.

They love putting their stockings up and their sacks out, plus the stuff to Santa / the reindeer. We make mince pies on CE so Santa has a fresh one to eat!

The box is a useful storage facility for the things in it too. Means we don't misplace them!

NoWordForFluffy · 04/11/2019 07:57

If you want to keep things together either stack them on a shelf or keep them in a draw.

Or am I missing something

Yep, an 'er', as it's 'drawer', not 'draw'.

Sorry, couldn't resist due to the faux Xmas Confused of your post. I wouldn't normally say anything.

Stacerini · 04/11/2019 07:58

My DC are still only little but last year I started the tradition of, on 1st Dec, they get Christmassy PJ’s, a Christmas DVD, and chocolate coins. I think it’s a nice way to signal the start of December. I don’t do Elf on the Shelf or Christmas Eve boxes, but where’s the harm if people do?

Bouledeneige · 04/11/2019 08:12

Sorry I dont get it either. Does the box replace the stocking or is it in addition to it? What's the difference between what is in the box and the stocking - some of these things would go in the stocking for me. And I struggle to think of things to go in the stocking anyway.

I'm a LP too so hopefully I can ask a simple question. My DC are older teens and I don't know anyone who does this.

Interesting that all this shite took off about the same time as social media. So far, only two posters have mentioned photos but I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of all this cutesy, consumerist crapola will end up in Facebook (look at us! Making Xmas memories #blessed).

wendz86 · 04/11/2019 08:35

Mine get a pair of new pyjamas , a book and some hot chocolate each. Then to share a Christmas dvd which helps build our collection and a bath bomb.

I don't post on social media the kids enjoy it, as do I.

Canklesforankles · 04/11/2019 09:04

Wagtail Boots have a colour change bubble bath with a penguin on. M&S have Christmas bath confetti and bath fizzers.

AdalindMeisner · 04/11/2019 09:15

We do a Christmas eve box, it basically has the reused Christmas mugs (don't buy new unless they break), a new pair of pj's(which get worn all year by the little one until she grows out of them or put away by the big one to reusue each Christmas she is a teen and has stopped growing). The same Christmas story book and the Christmas dvds. I also add each child a new bath bomb or bubble bath and a chocolate spoon for hot chocolate. I do add in a craft for the youngest to keep her busy whilst I get on with prep for the next day but this usually a couple of pound from the works for example. Oh and we have a box of fake snow balls 🙄. We put Christmas bedding on from the start of December and have advent calendars.

AdalindMeisner · 04/11/2019 09:17

Oh and I don't add photos to social media of this or Christmas presents. And have never used the making memories hashtag thank you very much!

horse4course · 04/11/2019 10:05

Mine just get a little duplo kit of a polar bear slowly starving on the dwindling ice caps

Morgan12 · 04/11/2019 10:16

We don't do a Christmas eve box.

The elf comes on 1st December with some crafts, sweets, pjs, panto tickets, bedding and a letter from Santa.

That way they get the full month out the pjs and not just one night.

Santas letter just says that he has recieved their Christmas lists and hopes they will visit him soon.

I don't have any social media so none of this is shared.

I do it because the kids love it and I hope they will remember it fondly when they are too old for the magic of Christmas.

Does that mean I'm 'making memories' 😲

Some of you need to seriously lighten up.

Thinkingaboutthestats · 04/11/2019 11:11

I also can confirm my children are not on social media - my parents used to take photos of me with all my Christmas gifts 40 years ago Grin

Fantababy · 04/11/2019 12:07

I've never shared any pictures of my Christmas Eve box on social media either. And I've never in my life used a social media hashtag.
HTH.

myfavouriterain · 04/11/2019 20:10

Thanks to those persevering amongst the oh-so-superior Marie Kondo twerps

Wagtail no but I'll post if I spot a bottle.

Nice idea to put in ingredients for making a tree decoration, dd is very crafty and it's something we could keep for the future.

1st of December
Christmas jumper/t-shirt
Advent calendar
Chocolate, but something they have to do or share together like Marshmellows and choc dip

Christmas Eve
New pyjamas or onesies. Not Christmas themed so they can wear them all year

Kids love it

ToTheRegimentIWishIWasThere · 05/11/2019 06:47

WagtailRobin Lush is you best bet for Christmas bath bombs and stuff. Bomb cosmetics (I think) also do similar stuff.

ToTheRegimentIWishIWasThere · 05/11/2019 06:52

Yep, an 'er', as it's 'drawer', not 'draw'.

In our house it's in addition to the stocking. Pyjamas, a DVD, the stocking, the santa plate, TTNBC book go in it, which are all needed the night before. The idea is it's the things grouped together which form part of the Christmas bedtime routine to make it easier to get smaller children off to bed easier.

No it didn't, Christmas Eve Boxes/hampers/presents have been going for years. I'm 33 and have had one (in various form) my entire life. It's not a new thing. The rise of social media night make it more prevalent or more documented but it's not new. My DM was being sniffy about them until I pointed out we always had all the components, just not presented in a specific box and she shut up Grin (and I don't have Facebook, so can't comment in other people's social media tagging, but can confirm that my family doesn't)

CupCupGoose · 05/11/2019 07:13

A lot of people of this thread need to get over themselves. No one is asking you to do a Christmas eve box and someone else having one doesn't affect anyone else.

This is what goes in ours....

Pj's (new but not Xmas themed)
Board game (family present, which would be bought anyway and will get used all year round)
Santa key (used every year)
Santa plate (for mince pie/Carott, used every year)
Christmas book (used every year)
Chocolate
Christmas issue of the magazine the kids get (which would be bought anyway.)

All placed in a box I use to store the Christmas tree decorations in.

CupCupGoose · 05/11/2019 07:16

And I've never shared mine on social media. I do it for the kids, not other people. Plus I don't think it's anything to show off about!

tashakg89 · 05/11/2019 07:21

We don't do the xmas eve boxes but we do do elf on the shelf so on the 1sr December the magic elf will change their sheets into xmas ones, leave an advent calendar and maybe xmas pjs/ jumper.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/11/2019 07:23

I've not shared it on social media either. It's something for the kids which they look forward to. [Fgrin]

Thinkingaboutthestats · 05/11/2019 07:29

It really baffles me why people come into a Christmas topic and decide that their way of doing Christmas is superior to someone else’s!

Also if people want to share on FB their #memories so what? that’s their choice - if we were all the same how burning life would be!

Thinkingaboutthestats · 05/11/2019 07:30

Boring not burning! 😂
