Not sure if this should be here or in Style and Beauty.

Wondering what people wear on Xmas day. We've never been a matching PJ's family, nor do we do jumpers.

I would like to look xmassy but classy. If there is such a thing!

Am thinking smart black jeans and black boots, dark red jumper and gold jewelry.
I'm hosting so will be in and out of kitchen so will be wearing an apron for some of the day.

What do other people wear?

Not a jumper you will be hot if you are also cooking and prepping.

Generally I wear new jeans and a nice top but last year we all wore our Xmas pyjamas which we've never done!

This year I think I'm going to treat us all to some nice lounge wear so happy medium.

Unless we end up going out to my sisters then it will be glammed up all the way 🎄

LizzieMacQueen · 21/10/2019 18:37

A dress so when I've eaten too much I don't have to unbutton a button or 2.

Woopdewoop · 21/10/2019 18:39

Sequin skirt and cashmere jumper

00100001 · 21/10/2019 18:43

Erm. Just normal clothes.

Might wear a new item if I'm given it in the day....

Shockers · 21/10/2019 18:44

Something very cool with sleeves that won’t flap (I set fire to a batwing sleeve on the gas hob one year).

With the possibility of something to go over when you step out from in front of the oven.

DragonMamma · 21/10/2019 18:48

We aren’t leaving the house this year so will be wearing festive loungewear or PJs. I usually wear jeans and a nice top but need elastic for post dinner...

MondeoFan · 21/10/2019 18:49

Jeans and nice blouse?
Or tight roll neck jumper and nice skirt

MovinOnUp · 21/10/2019 21:27

We are thinking about staying in our PJ's this year.

If I were cooking I'd wear a christmas tshirt with leggings then change tops for something a bit more glamorous, Maybe something sparkly.

RoseyPeas · 21/10/2019 23:05

Thanks for all the replies!

I hadn't thought about how hot I might get while cooking.

I would ideally like to change as I'm not the tidiest of cooks, but I can't see there would be any appropriate moment!

So maybe I'll go for jeans and smart blouse - and be VERY careful while cookingSmile

Last year I wore wide legged dark green trousers (very lightweight fabric) and a black glittery top. I usually wear something glam but relatively comfy

RoseMartha · 21/10/2019 23:16

Smart casual usually.

BiddyPop · 22/10/2019 12:51

I don't see why the cook shouldn't get at least a 5 minute breather once everything is ready, meat needs to sit and rest, etc., and cook deserves their pre-dinner bubbles/sherry/G&T with everyone else.

So finish off everything in the kitchen, excuse yourself to the bathroom en route to join the others, and slip into your own room to change your top from "nice but practical for cooking" to "now this says Festive Christmas Lunch" top, run hairbrush through hair and refresh lipstick, even if not changing anything else.

Then waft into the main area people are congregating for 10 minutes relaxation before graciously serving the wonderful feast!

No, just in my head that this all works out then....?! Xmas Grin

Slaymill · 22/10/2019 13:23

@Woopdewoop and OP I'm thinking of this skirt joanieclothing.com/hannah-sequin-pencil-skirt-silver.html but what colour cashmere jumper ?

I'm blonde for colouring reasons and look horrid in black.

LaserShark · 22/10/2019 13:26

Tartan swing dress with cream cable knit cropped cardigan that I can take off whilst cooking, probably. I have a sequinned pencil skirt but the sequins dig in after a while and feel a bit scratchy.

Nabel · 22/10/2019 14:43

I always like the idea of wearing something special on Christmas Day but then realise I’m going to be eating a large meal and I want to be comfortable. So I’m going for a loose fitting dress that still looks nice but will be comfy. Jewellery and red lipstick will make it a bit more festive too.

RoseyPeas · 22/10/2019 15:03

@Slaymill I had in mind a dark red cashmere jumper. Festive and classy Grin

But someone suggested a blouse so that I don't get too hot cooking, so maybe a cream silk shirt and a dark red cashmere wrap.

@Biddypop I really really would like to be organised enough for that to work, but somehow...

Leggings, a teeshirt and slippers, hair up out of the way. Comfort and keeping cool are the top priorities.

WagtailRobin · 22/10/2019 15:12

I have great intentions in the lead up to every Christmas to wear something amazing and I typically do buy a beautiful outfit (or two) every year but come Christmas morning it's the presents being opened, the tin of sweets out, an early morning tipple, playing with very excited nieces/nephews and somehow I run out of time to do full make up/hair before food is served, so I always end up with a very quick shower, hair tied back, a bit of mascara/eyeliner, jeans/pretty top and barefoot.

It works for me though because I feel comfortable and relaxed!

Slaymill · 22/10/2019 15:20

I like this blouse www.purecollection.com/women-c31/blouses-shirts-c62/silk-satin-shirt-ivory-p8551 Pure Collection always have a discount voucher wafting around.

I fell in love with the L.K.Bennett Timian Silk Blouse but, all sold out and it seems they are only doing a green one this year.

imclaustrophobicdarren · 22/10/2019 18:36

I've just got a sequin suit and I'm totally wearing it! We get pretty dresses up every year.

Woopdewoop · 22/10/2019 21:12

@slaymill pale or slate grey?

Slaymill · 23/10/2019 09:14

@Woopdewoop excellent choices I had a quick google and navy, copper??, burgundy and grey were complementing colours.

I saw a gorgeous American Vintage one and at the other end of the price scale www.johnstonsofelgin.com/retail/classic-round-neck-navy-cashmere-jumper.html

How are you getting on OP ?

SeaViewBliss · 23/10/2019 09:17

I've recently discovered jersey swing dresses so I will be wearing a black one. Total comfort, expandable for overeating and not too hot. Also can be dressed up if needed.

TheSandgroper · 23/10/2019 09:49

Something light, bright and summery. Preferably new but not always.

kenandbarbie · 23/10/2019 09:56

In breast feeding so have to have boob access. I've seen a gold sequin skirt in next I could wear with a cream jumper. I've also ordered a black organza sleeved blouse for one of the Christmas meals. My baby has a tartan dress, black velvet knickers, cream tights and black shoes. If I could find something to match in tartan with boob access I'd like it.
