Christmas Eve Breakfast

EnglishRose13 · 10/10/2019 19:57

This year, my family and my close friend (and her family) are having breakfast together on Christmas Eve.

I'm asking for breakfast ideas to make it feel festive, please.

Disclaimer: I bloody hate eggs and salmon!

Gingerbread waffles sound amazing! Please post your recipe.

Freshly squeeze OJ.
Make milkshakes.

Reallybadidea · 10/10/2019 22:53

I used this recipe but swapped the molasses for black treacle.

I've also made kouign amann a few times with a teaspoon of cinnamon added to the sugar. A lot of work but one of the nicest things I've ever made.

AbbyNormal · 10/10/2019 23:03

Another vote for Nigella's Christmas Morning Muffins. They're so good!

We usually have those frozen croissants and pain au chocolat which just need heating up in the oven. Alongside cranberry juice, orange juice and coffee.

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 10/10/2019 23:06

Pancakes with festive filling options - mincemeat and clotted cream, salmon and cream cheese (for others!), some other shit I dunno I just have weetabix

Pipandmum · 10/10/2019 23:08

We always have French toast with bacon. Not particularly Christmassy but kept us full till dinner (at 5ish).

MaryLane93 · 10/10/2019 23:16

Home made rustic baked beans, with bacon, sausages and toasted sour dough

A citrus fruit salad, pink grapefruit and orange segments, pomegranate seeds for extra beauty, with Greek yogurt, then sausages, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, whatever delicious bready thing you like best.

SeaSidePebbles · 11/10/2019 07:30

I celebrate Christmas eve, not Christmas day. So we all go out for breakfast on Christmas eve. Full english, or croissants, whatever everyone likes, really.
We have the kids alternating Christmasses, this year they go on Christmas eve, so we have a christmas lunch at about 2 :)

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 11/10/2019 07:40

Oooh, those gingerbread waffles look delicious.

What do you have with them, Reallybadidea? We like having maple syrup and fruit with our normal waffles but I imagine that would be a little sweet?

boringisasboringdoes · 11/10/2019 07:42

This is the best thread ever...

stucknoue · 11/10/2019 07:49

Cinnamon and cranberry bagels (I use a bake off recipe off the bbc website) Christmas tree brioche, or if more exotic ... chop up potatoes, peppers, red onion and add some Cajun spice mix, cook in pan or oven, once veg is nearly cooked (I start potatoes before the other veg as take longer) add finely chopped coriander, chilli if you like it, mix then crack in eggs (quails eggs if you are feeling flush) and put under grill until eggs are cooked. Serve with salsa

boringisasboringdoes · 11/10/2019 07:50

Whipped butter would go well on gingerbread waffles I imagine. Definitely going to try these

Rainbowx2 · 11/10/2019 07:54

Every year I think I must make this nutella Christmas tree, maybe this year!!

sawyersfishbiscuits · 11/10/2019 08:43

Ahhh I love this thread already. Shame I have to go to work!

Grumpbum123 · 11/10/2019 08:46

We have made the Nutella Christmas tree the last couple of years which we serve with strawberries and fresh juice

Reallybadidea · 11/10/2019 11:27

I think we had the waffles with a bit of maple syrup and whipped cream. They're not massively sweet on their own really. I might try making the batter with brown butter this year.

EnglishRose13 · 11/10/2019 12:02

Oh wow.

I love all of these ideas! Thank you.
