Just wondered what you were getting your toddlers this year. I was thinking of a dollhouse but don't know if DD (who'd be 2.5 by Xmas) would be too young? Also thinking of a my generation doll but don't know if it'll get played with?? Got some crayola bits and some Doc Mcstuffins bits but other than that I need inspiration! Also, how many presents are you planning on getting? TIA

Probably too young to get a lot out of a my generation doll. Definitely not too young for a dolls house. My daughter has liked dolls houses for a long time and just turned 3.

Things she especially likes- wooden indoor climbing frame, small figures and playsets like sylvanians/happyland/tv character figures, a toolbench toy, baby doll, wooden train set and her play kitchen.

We are probably going to get a dolls house and a garage for her this Christmas. Both are easy to get as massive bargains second hand too so will mean we can get both.

My DS will be 3 just before christmas and has lately been really into imaginary play. He is getting a playmobil penguin pool, buzz lightyear toy, a doctors bag and dressing up kit, and a few smaller bits.

StarStarBright · 22/09/2019 12:21

The wooden doll house from Asda is great. My 16-month old spends ages putting the furniture and dolls in and out. I think it will be played with a lot.

I’ve just ordered the Leap Frog ice cream cart from amazon, as it is a really good price and has excellent reviews.

AiryFairy1991 · 22/09/2019 12:24

We are getting a mini-trampoline (the ones with the handlebars) because DS loves jumping on anything atm. Also a play-doh starter kit and maybe some more duplo bits. That’s all his faves at the moment and most of it would lend to open ended play so hoping he doesn’t get bored of it quickly like some of last years presents.

Slappadabass · 22/09/2019 12:27

A toy shop, DS will be almost 3 by Christmas, he absolutely loves going to the shop, so I'm buying him a lovely wooden shop complete with a till and pretend foods etc.
His birthday is the month after and I'm thinking of getting him a doll's house too, his sister has a giant monster high plastic monstrosity doll house kind of thing which he loves to play with, he sits the dolls at the table, walks them up and down the stairs etc

torthecatlady · 22/09/2019 13:58

My twin nephews have just turned 2, so following with interest. They like tractors, diggers, trains and are obsessed with the lion king! They had an Ikea kitchen for their birthday which they absolutely loved.

mistermagpie · 22/09/2019 14:07

Following for ideas because DS is 2.5. The problem is that my other DS is 4 so we already have a million toys and all the big things like trampolines, slides, balance bike etc. I've got no idea what to get him as he really has got everything I can think of!

mistermagpie · 22/09/2019 14:08

We already have one but a kitchen is a great idea, we got ours in Aldi and both boys love it.

Sipperskipper · 22/09/2019 14:11

I’m giving DD (2.5 at Christmas) my (pretty big!) Sylvanian family collection from when I was little. She quite likes figurines etc and loves animals, so am hoping it will be a hit!

My parents are buying her a micro scooter. She has a balance bike, which she rides every day, and has started asking about scooters. ‘I’d love to ride a scooter like that!’

WTFdidwedo · 22/09/2019 14:11

We're doing a doll's house too. Then getting dressing up clothes, Disney Animator's dolls, Playdoh, Orchard Farm type children's games, standard books/clothes and maybe a Leapfrog tot of some sort. She has her 3rd birthday just before Christmas too so need plenty of ideas.

@iwishi
@StarStarBright
Definitely the ice cream cart. Our three year old GS never tired of playing with this one .
Hoping many of his other toys will find new homes before Christmas though as their house is splitting at the seams .

Biancadelrioisback · 22/09/2019 14:14

A fish and other little bits like play doh, vtech toot toot stuff, it's also his birthday the week before so he's getting some (more) construction vehicles.
Last year he got a play kitchen and trampoline which are still some of his favourites

bloodywhitecat · 22/09/2019 14:20

I will be watching with interest, I may or may not have our foster child who will be almost 3 by Christmas and don't know what to buy.

EdHelpPls · 22/09/2019 14:25

Sipperskipper - have a look at the maxi microscooter. I got one for dd When she turned 5 and my (then) 2.5 year old rode it as easily as the mini one she’d inherited from big sister - the lowest height for handlebars on the the bigger version is the same as the height for the smaller one.

CuteOrangeElephant · 22/09/2019 14:33

@bloodywhitecat most kids seem to like wooden railway. It's a great present because if they get really into it, it will generate good gift ideas for years to come 😁.

I'm getting my 2 year old DD a huge box of Hubelino, a kind of marble run that fits onto Duplo. I just know she will absolutely love it!

MinnieMouseMaze · 22/09/2019 14:33

Watching

Mrsfussypants1 · 22/09/2019 15:07

I agree, Asda dolls house is fab and can be adapted as interests change and add other characters. The asda wooden castle and furniture set is fab(£35). Our granddaughter who is 3 loves it. We've added schleich foxes, bears, unicorns, dragons, knights and fairies and we've bought for her stocking bullyland frozen figures as she is having a frozen faze.

joystir59 · 22/09/2019 15:13

Just buy these really young people one or two small gifts to unwrap. Don't spoil them with mountains of stuff, they are too young at 2!

boymama2 · 22/09/2019 15:27

My two DS will be 2.5 and 3.5 at Christmas, we are getting the 2 year old duplo (tropical jungle) and the 3 year old playmobil (aquarium).
I've found that duplo and playmobil are the only things that they got last Christmas and still play with now. Keeps them occupied for the most time too.

iwishi · 22/09/2019 15:31

How many things are you all getting?

DadCanIHaveAZedgie · 22/09/2019 15:59

DS will be having spiderman/Ironman figures, dressing up stuff, Lego, marble run, Play-Doh.

torthecatlady · 22/09/2019 16:03

have A look at the tea trolley in Great Little Trading Company
This was bought for one of my grandsons who was cafe mad
Over the years we have added to it, crockery, veg, all manner of cakes and sandwiches, tea set etc and have built up quite a collection
All of them play with it and any visiting little ones love it
Youngest is now 6 but they still play cafes
It’s a good gift for boys or girls

Figmentofimagination · 22/09/2019 16:57

DS (2.5) will be getting extra track and trains for his current wooden train set (actually his dad's train set from when he was little), and a giant toot toot racing track.

Anything else he will get off us will probably be little bits (clothes, stocking fillers etc).

My parents are buying him something duplo.

randomusername · 22/09/2019 17:05

No I don't think she'll be too young for a dolls house. DC2 will be almost 3 come Xmas and getting a dolls house as a joint present. She will life and it would of done for a few months! She will be getting 8 under the tree presents (including tin of paint , book of mazes, colouring book etc - not all toys!), plus a small stocking 'from' Santa.
