13 year old girls - what to buy....

Hi all

What are you buying your 13/14 year olds. My daughter turns 14 not long after Christmas and she has no idea what she wants other than a pair of black hollister jeans!
I'm thinking of getting her a mirrored jewellery 'armoire' for her wall as she has a ridiculous amount of earrings and I know she'd like this but literally have no other real ideas apart from the usual bath bombs etc.
So any help greatly appreciated....

Loving this thread for ideas. First year I've really struggled for my almost 13yr old.
So far I've got
Levis t-shirt (2)
Tommy hilfiger tshirt
Adidas hoodie
River Island bag
Too faced make up set

She's mentioned a couple of bits, Victoria's secret hoodie, hoola Bronzer and a HB London phone cover (not feeling the price of those though)
I'm thinking maybe some trainers and some perfume (recommendations anyone?) Then the usual Pjs, stocking fillers, selection boxes.
Going to make her up a little hamper of all the stuff she uses a lot. So face masks, hairspray, face cleansers/toners, fake tan, body scrubs etc.

For any makeup junkies a rotating makeup organizer (lots on amazon) or acrylic storage set might go down well.

MsHybridFanGirl · 21/09/2019 15:50

Snowmanshoes- which website did you use the 20% code off please?

newreality1 · 22/09/2019 00:41

I have already posted a list but other ideas I've been given:

Victoria Secret Body Sprays (think they are 2 for £20 in Superdrug)
Perfume (Arianna Grande new one)
Set of makeup brushes-(Morphe set with travel case)
Pretty Little Thing basic tshirts
Jack Wills underwear

Every year I do a hamper made up of general toileteries etc they need such as facewipes/facemasks/facescrubs/moisturiser/reuseable makeup remover cloths/cotton wool/nice showergels etc. It is always appreciated and everything gets used. Also can just gather things up each week so no big expense at once.

newreality1 · 22/09/2019 13:31

@MsHybridFanGirl The 20% off code is available on the Morphe website. It is available until 24 September and there are some exclusions.

MsHybridFanGirl · 22/09/2019 14:36

@newreality1 thank you!

My dd is almost 14 but isn't into makeup at all. She's into anime and weird stuff that I know nothing about!

I love the diary planner idea with a treat every month!

Dd will probably get another emo band hoodie
Something from forbidden planet
Stationary
Cinema voucher
Costa voucher
Sloth bedroom accessories
Pants and socks
Arty stuff and canvases

I like the idea of a cupcake decorating class, dd loves to bake and decorate.

ColouringPencils · 22/09/2019 18:11

I love the diary idea too, I might steal that for both my 13 year old and 10 year old Smile

snowmanshoes · 22/09/2019 18:58

@MsHybridFanGirl sorry just seen your message - it was the Morphe website.

@milicent I really recommend the sprocket over the Polaroid.
My dd 13 has both. Polaroid is never used but sprocket all the time.

shannie · 22/09/2019 20:12

We got the sprocket last year and it's still being used. Got those lights with pegs on and the photos look lovely on that around the room.
I love the idea of starting to get shower gels etc now

Anyone any thoughts on the concert tickets ? Do you buy 2 and let them choose a friend ? Co-ordinate with other parents ??

Toomanycats99 · 22/09/2019 21:37

No....I had had the sprocket as idea and had watched a couple on eBay. Reading this thread prompted me to check and my bid won......didn't mean to buy one yet! It's an ex display model being sold through save the children so hopefully ok......

Mine are 14 and 12. The sort of things that work with them:

  • Hobbies. My eldest is into indoor skydiving, and will get another course of lessons. My youngest is into riding. She's had lessons and kit before. This year, I'm pushing the boat out and paying for a Sunday loan on a pony (not as expensive as you'd think!)
  • Gig tickets. My eldest is a huge fan of music, so tickets to see bands she likes always go down well. Currently, she likes me to go with her (and she has good taste, thankfully!), but I'd buy a ticket for a friend to go with her if she preferred.
  • Paddle boards. They're keen to get out on the river more often. I'm keen to get them off their devices. Everybody wins! Any sort of equipment that keeps teenagers active would be good - kayak, bike, etc.
  • Activities / experiences. Happily, both of mine share my view that memories are better than stuff. So, vouchers for aqua zorbing, go ape, white water tubing, zip wiring (see Velocity 2 at Zipworld in Snowdonia), trampolining in a cave at Bounce Below in Wales, riding a segway, or whatever they'd enjoy are always appreciated. Plus, you get to schedule family days out for the year ahead.
  • Holidays. Works better for my eldest than my youngest. She has a strong sense of wanderlust, so always asks for a weekend away somewhere for her birthday instead of a party. Works well for Christmas too, if that's what they'd like.
  • Usual round of smelly stuff and make up from Lush, Victoria's Secret, Mac, and similar.
  • Clothes. I don't even try to find stuff they'll love, because I'm a 40 year old man so guaranteed to get it wrong! They maintain an Amazon wish list (you can add things from any website using their clever little qidget), so I buy from that. Or give them vouchers.
  • Stuff for their bedrooms. Smart technology for the Echo Dots, plus decor / candles etc that they want for their rooms.

I’ve bought concert tickets for my 14DD (Green Day) but under-16s have to accompanied by an adult so guess what DH is getting? I might also get her a young driver or indoor skydiving experience, and then pull together a hamper of make-up bits as mentioned upthread.

shannie · 24/09/2019 19:50

Brill ideas thank you

Sweetpea84 · 24/09/2019 20:54

My DD is 15 in Feb and I’ve got her Jonas Brother tickets she loves them.

Another idea my daughter has a record player she got last year and loves buying vinyl, she has Billie Eilish albums and a few others.

Sweetpea84 · 24/09/2019 20:56

Oh and yes to Costa vouchers they went down well last year

WelshMoth · 24/09/2019 21:32

Under armour sports leggings
Jack Wills tops

Happily taking inspiration from you lot!

onyourway · 26/09/2019 07:01

Oh yes, Young Driver sessions are good.

snowmanshoes · 30/09/2019 11:53

Thanks for all the great ideas everyone.

I've got a better idea of what to get now and have already picked up an illuminated mirror bargain from amazon that the grandparents will probably end up buying as they asked me to get something for the children over the weekend and that fits the budget!

Thanks for the Brandy Meville heads up too - I casually mentioned the brand and she was all 'ooh yes love their stuff' so have ordered a hoodie and top from there.
She did mention Mario Badescu facial spray and Pink Salad vegan lipglosses too so thought I'd put that on this list for anyone who wants ideas for some smaller items oh and a silk pillowvvase to stop her hair going frizzy
