OK so they're back to school this week Grin.
Time to start thinking about Christmas I think. Little 2 will be a doddle but think I'm really going to struggle with eldest as she's at that stage where she seems to be too old for toys but not old enough for make up etc.

She's Harry Potter mad but has every Harry Potter thing I can think of, has a very small room so no option to buy room things as couldn't possibly fit anything more in there.

Not into make up or jewellery yet. Loves books but already has kindle unlimited so can just download what she wants. She got a cake pop maker/jewellery making sets/mermaid blanket last year.

Just bought her new trainers/backpack etc for going back to school.

Any recommendations of what your DDs of that age have loved would be appreciated for either presents or stocking fillers.

My DD is 11 and wants roller skates...the retro looking kind with four wheels. She'd also like things like makeup but I won't get those for her yet. It IS tricky...one thing that I did think of is a lovely big set of Fimo. If you don't know what that is, it's coloured clay which you can bake hard in the oven and make earrings and all kinds.

Art supplies....proper watercolours etc.

Lc2006 · 01/09/2019 22:45

Thank you @HennyPennyHorror the roller skates are a great idea and had no idea what Fimo was but will have a look that, sounds brill!

A special piece of jewellery? I got my daughter a pandora bracelet and a charm. For her stocking we will get stationery, nail varnishes, makeup, pjs, bus pass holder, purse, popcorn maker and other little bits to bulk it out.

Isadora2007 · 02/09/2019 00:13

A Harry Potter coding wand? It’s not quite a toy but kind of an educational one.

Dressing gown. Cosy slippers.

Tv for her room or a fire stick if she already has a tv.

Echo Dot and a subscription for Spotify?

Ricekrispie22 · 02/09/2019 04:57

Karaoke machine

Lc2006 · 02/09/2019 07:55

She's not into jewellery or make up but the popcorn maker is a good idea she'd love that. Harry Potter coding wand was her main gift last year I thought she'd love it...it's not been out of the bix since Christmas day Confused. Echo dot is a really good idea though will add that to the list. Thanks

My DS got an echo dot for his 11th birthday present. It's great - he uses it as an alarm, listens to the football commentary on it and has it linked to a family Spotify account for music.

Would your DD like one of those sprocket printers that can print photos from her phone? (Assuming she has a phone)

Is she crafty? Painting by numbers or a cross stitch kit? Knitting or crochet stuff?

Lc2006 · 02/09/2019 09:30

Yes she has a phone never thought of a sprocket but she would probably love that. Thanks everyone, building a good list

Echo Dot with Spotify subscription
Sprocket
Roller skates
Popcorn maker
Another Harry Potter lego set - one of the only thing she's said she wants.

Stocking
Painting by numbers
She's asked for brush pens
Choc orange
Choc bombs - saw on another thread
Scrunchies/bobbles/clips

My DD has some battery powered fairy lights with little pegs to hold photos. Could you find something like that for her stocking?

Lc2006 · 02/09/2019 10:36

Yes they're fab she has got some of those though but thanks for the suggestion

What about tickets to an event? Or a pass for a theme park? She might not be old enough yet to think of that sort of thing as a gift.
Any interest in clothes? I have one dc that loves clothes and the other would be very disappointed to get them as a gift.
Any hobbies? There always seems to be some outrageously priced piece of kit that they mine want. Particular brands of dance bags or clothes etc.
it’s a tricky age!

Lc2006 · 02/09/2019 13:19

I got all excited when it was her birthday about going on a girly shopping trip to buy some clothes (thought she might be getting to that age where that would be nice) but she was less than enthusiastic about the idea 😔 hoping that changes at some point as I was definitely looking forward to these kinds of things.

The passes are awkward as she isn't old enough to go anywhere with friends yet and I have 2 little ones so would either need to take up a lot of their budget to buy them passes as well or not take them at all

She has however just started getting into gymnastics so maybe a couple of leotards may be an idea thanks

I have exactly the same issue OP and your DD sounds like mine.

I second the Fimo, DD has asked for plasticine and Converse.

So I reckon fimo would be great. I'm going to do a trip to Tiger too, they always have great things you didn't know you needed Grin

I really recommend Tiger if it is near you.

actiongirl1978 · 02/09/2019 13:33

My daughter is getting tickets for Hamilton - I get the second seat!

And will also get topshop vouchers and lush products.

Could you get a Go Henry card ready loaded for when she goes shopping with friends? My 11yr old loves hers and saves up all her pocket money on it. You can get personalised designs I think.

Lc2006 · 02/09/2019 15:35

Yes the Fimo sounds like a good idea I do think she would like that. Unfortunately don't have a tiger near us I have heard that it's good

Lots of great ideas here - thank you!

cricketmum84 · 02/09/2019 22:24

Popcorn maker and ice cream maker have gone down well with our almost 11 year old.

She's also obsessed with clothes shopping so gift vouchers for places like river island, h&m etc always go down well!

Lc2006 · 03/09/2019 08:07

OK I've bought a pack of Fimo only £10 on amazon so pleased with that thank you for the recommendations.

Going to wait until black Friday for echo dot and sprocket.

Trying to decide between a popcorn maker and a slush maker I think the slush will get used more maybe...

Roller skates I'm not sure about after a bit of probing last night (I thought it was a fab idea!)

Harry Potter lego will get in argos 3 for 2 if they do it along with other toys for little ones.

Also ordered a couple of leotards, a dressing gown and some baking equipment for a baking Hamper I'm going to make her. Think I'm nearly done but if anyone else comes up with any more great ideas let me know

Is she arty at all? Our DD loves drawing and painting and we got her a lovely big box of acrylics and brushes and a few proper canvases from The Works x

Saisong · 03/09/2019 08:36

We had success with binoculars, penknife, friendship bracelet kit, sock monkey (actually sloth) kit. Also the Exploding Kittens card game.

She also is getting into art and has enjoyed a calligraphy pen someone gave her. Also Fimo is definately a winner (but I find she wants to do it as an activity with an adult not alone)

TheStakeIsNotThePower · 03/09/2019 08:50

Dd will be turning 11 at Christmas and will be getting a Sonos speaker for her room. Our house music runs on Sonos and her brother got one at 11 too.
She got a 3d printing pen a couple of years ago and it would honestly go down just as well now, she still loves it.
She's still a Lego fan too and would love more big sets, we got loads of Harry potter Lego last Christmas and I think we will be getting the newer sets like hagrids hut etc this year.

Lc2006 · 03/09/2019 10:43

Art supplies are a good idea, I'm going to fill her stocking with some arty things from the works the calligraphy pen sounds good.

@TheSkateIsNotThePower I have thought about a 3d printing pen before but didn't think they would be very good. Do you mind me asking what make it was?

OP posts:
TheStakeIsNotThePower · 03/09/2019 15:55

@Lc2006 dd has a 3d doodler start which uses low temps so good for kids but she got it when younger, I think she'd be sensible enough now not to burn herself on their regular range.

Lc2006 · 03/09/2019 16:21

Fab thanks I'll add that to the list as well then and should be about all sorted Grin
