Favourite stocking fillers for children

UndertheCedartree · 17/08/2019 17:22

I always put Christmas socks, chocolate coins and a satsuma in my 2's stockings. Then 3 small gifts, some things from the poundshop and chocolate.

I find it so easy to get small gifts for my dd (7) - I've already picked up things for her in the sales. I've got one thing for my ds (12) - a light up lego key ring but find it much harder to get him things.

What do you put in your dc's stockings?

I try and put useful things in. Pencils, hair bobbles, hair slides, nail
Varnish, lip balm for the girls

For the boy it’s flannel, little watch, play Mobil
Blind bags, Lego and Thomas blind bags

ImNotHappyaboutitPauline · 17/08/2019 18:34

For stocking gifts I try to stick with edibles and things they'll use eg a clip on book light, finger point book marks, digital book mark, nice colouring pencils, a bath bomb or nicely scented soap.

I've already ordered one each of these for dd 10 and ds 8 as I believe they sold out quickly last year:

For your 12 year old perhaps hair gel, shower gel, that sort of thing?

DH bought remote control colour changing lightbulbs for our two which will go in their stockings. You can also get ones that can be controlled by a smartphone (ours don't have phones yet) which your ds might like?

duckling84 · 17/08/2019 18:46

A bath bomb from lush (my ds's are 10,7 and 3 and they love them)
A fluffy pair of socks
A book or DVD (or itunes/playstore voucher)
Pens/pencils/crayons/highlighters
Small Lego set
Trading card game pack (match attacks, pokemon etc)
A can of coke
Box of pop tarts

duckling84 · 17/08/2019 18:47

Oh yes impulse for girls, lynx for boys right? Standard teen stocking fillers

BikeRunSki · 17/08/2019 18:50

Mine always get socks. Fun socks. 2 or 3 pairs rolled up takes up a lot of space, this year they both hit a bottle of “grown up” shower gel. (Original Source stuff), which was a massive hit as we usually have soap.

winesolveseverything · 17/08/2019 18:55

I've done pants, socks, bubble bath/shower gel, Guineas world records book or some kind of annual, choc coins, satsuma, rubix cube, small board game, mini pinball, those grow your own crystal tree things, mug with hot choc....

I put a harmonica in once. That was a mistake.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 17/08/2019 19:00

But random but I put individual portions of Nutella in my kids last year and they loved them!

I also try and get little bits of jewellery when it's on sale and pop that in as well.

BikeRunSki · 17/08/2019 19:10

Da got his “own” jar of marmite when they did personalised labels.

They usually get a paperback books too. Always a chocolate orange and sweets.

iklboo · 17/08/2019 19:11

DS likes getting

Retro toy kits (B&M type places sell them)
Jokes / pranks
Magic trick
Wooden puzzles
Fun socks
A silly pen / pencil

TheWoollybacksWife · 17/08/2019 19:29

My DS is a similar age to yours @UndertheCedartree

I find it easy to buy stocking fillers for his older sisters but struggle a bit with him. Last year I bought them all bath bombs from an Etsy seller - DS's was shaped like a gaming controller and he loved it so I'm getting those again.

So far I've got him Star Wars pencils from LaLaLand and some Kangaroo Poo pants from MandM (just to see his face when he reads poo on the label)

Last year he also had a portable charger (shaped like an emoji poo - I know there is a theme) and I bought a label from eBay to personalise a jar of Nutella.

I'll get socks/slipper socks and chocolate and I'm looking for a set of hairstyling/grooming stuff as he's getting a little bit more conscious of his appearance.

MeMeMeYou · 17/08/2019 19:44

I also try to get useful things or toys they’ll actually play with. Reasonably big in size so I don’t need too many to fill it. Kids objected to satsumas so I stopped . Always a rolled up magazine, flannel, chocolate. Smellies for 11yo DD. Lego mini figures or mashems for Ds 6. Stationery.

Arrowfanatic · 17/08/2019 19:49

I always struggle with this tbh.

Usually I'll go to Smyths and get them each a couple of blind bags. I try to do a small toy as well, like a mini lego set. My 10 year old last year i did some small make up sets, my 6 year old got some nail varnish so ill do that again.

I struggle for 8 year old DS, so I'll be watching this thread.

The 6 in 1 whistle looks great @Imnothappyaboutitpauline

@UndertheCedartree- were you trying to absolutely guarantee that everyone was awake by 5am? Grin

UndertheCedartree · 18/08/2019 00:05

@bikerunski Grin think they went missing mysteriously!

We do Xmas socks, character pants, character flannels (expander kind), personalised Nutella, rolled up magazine (bonus that it keeps them occupied whilst we’re waking up/sorting breakfast), Lego set, seeds for the garden, stationery (light up pens and the ilk), chocolate orange (rather than a satsuma), nicer toiletries.

RachelEllenR · 18/08/2019 11:23

Lots of our favourites already mentioned - themed cake mixes go down well here, themed plasters (stuff we don't normally have), stickers, mouldable bath soap, drink bottle/glass

sideorderofchips · 18/08/2019 11:31

Themed soaps I think the body shop still does it’s animal
Shaped soaps.

Atlasta · 18/08/2019 11:39

Last year my DS (9)
New battery operated toothbrush
Pocket calculator
Pencil case
Keyring (character off what he was 'in to' at the time)
Pen
A body Spray
Sporty stopwatch
Chocolate coins & chocolate reindeer.

missyB1 · 18/08/2019 11:59

ds will be 11 this christmas. for his stocking I'm planning:
Torch (a really good one more like a flashlight).
Slipper socks
chocolate
book light.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/08/2019 12:24

Definitely consumables, little tubs of nuts, pringles, bags of popcorn, mug puds etc. DSs were scouts so usually stuff for that, fancy woggles, pocket knife etc. Magazine/book, keyring, wallet, poster, charger/phone cases, mouse mat, ear buds, carabiners fancy packs of tissues, toothbrush, those micro lego sets, guitar picks, head phone hangers, wallet tool thingy, nice toiletries, gloves, stationery hand warmers, cinema voucher

BikeRunSki · 18/08/2019 15:30

Oh yes, if you have Beavers/Cubs/Scouts, Scout Shops often have a fundraiser Christmas camp blanket badge, different one each time.

Hattie78 · 18/08/2019 15:45

Loving these ideas!
My DS are 8 and 11. I usually get some kind of STEM toy, a book, a selection box, chocolate coins, gadget-y type thing such as clip on reading lamp (love the look of the 6 in one whistles), something crafty and something decorative and then other random bits that they'll (hopefully like). Need to start buying soon - I love Christmas!!

Dandelion1993 · 18/08/2019 15:52

I normally put in some sweets and bath toys (no one ever seems to buy the as gifts)
