It seems to happen every year as soon as it hits mid-May, I get like a 12 year old and get ridiculously excited for Christmas!!!

I never think much of it until I left a Christmas song on that had came on on shuffle and the guy next to me on the bus could clearly hear it through my headphones - weirdest look ever GrinGrin

Anyone else??? Or am I actually just completely weird? 😂

(I think my mum has always been the same so I've got it from somewhere!!)

I rest my case.

U2HasTheEdge · 31/05/2019 21:03

I have heard it all. Someone who thinks talking about Christmas in FUCKING MAY is lunacy is a "Scrooge".

Yep! it's like wishing your life away too! we haven't even had summer yet ffs.

WillowSummerSloth · 31/05/2019 21:09

Can I ask what you get excited about? I love the concept of Christmas; the movie version of Christmas. I adored Christmas as a child. But now it's just loads of extra work when I'm already so busy. It's all the food planning and prep, shopping for everyone, decorating, hosting, wrapping, trying to get some time off work, driving to visit people, trying to make it magical but really just feeling exhausted by the whole thing. How do you get excited? What is it you enjoy? Do you have to do all that crap too?

PinkGlitter123 · 31/05/2019 21:46

I find Christmas really over rated and boring. Lead up is nice but the day itself is completely dire

AudacityOfHope · 31/05/2019 22:26

Laughing at the whining people who hate the christmas chat but clicked on the thread anyway Grin

thegreatcrestednewt · 31/05/2019 22:28

It’s bloody weird. What about summer?? Insane to be longing for something that’s 7 months away Confused

CherryPlum · 31/05/2019 23:03

In the depths of winter, people long for summer. Looking forward to Christmas during the summer is no different, really. I think sometimes we just crave what we haven't currently got. I do enjoy all of the seasons but I often find myself daydreaming about or making plans for a different season.

ilovesooty · 31/05/2019 23:06

I'm actually already longing for next year's FA Cup Final and Eurovision Song Contest WinkWink

PregnantSea · 31/05/2019 23:09

You sound completely loopy to me. But as long as you aren't inflicting Xmas music in May onto unsuspecting folk then crack on and enjoy!

Nanalisa60 · 31/05/2019 23:17

Don’t think about it till after bonfire night!! But I have already got most of the presents!! bought them all in the sales!! I’m excited about summertime!!

AnyFarrahFowler · 31/05/2019 23:30

I mentioned on a chatty Christmas countdown thread on the Christmas board on here that I’d watched Arthur Christmas last month - because my 3 year old DS requested it - and got told I was weird. I thought I was talking to like-minded people, but I haven’t ventured back there since Blush

TapasForTwo · 31/05/2019 23:36

It's my least favourite time of the year. We are a tiny family, and Christmas is rather dull and underwhelming. I much prefer Easter.

S0CKS · 01/06/2019 10:41

Meh who gets to decide what is weird? Yes i may be suprised to hear a christmas song in June but I would find myself enjoying it!

Girlicorne · 01/06/2019 10:49

I m an early Christmas person, I put the Christmas Cd on in the car first week in October and we start Christmas activities mid November but May??? Sorry but it's a little early, we have the whole lovely summer to look forward to first (hopefully! ) Each to their own though if you want to get excited now you do it :-)

Grinchly · 01/06/2019 18:58

Arrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhh
Not this already!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/06/2019 09:35

Did this thread start in AIBU then get moved to 'Christmas'?

I love Christmas 100%

I don't buy in the January sales to set myself up with gift wrap (I do new colours each year) or cards (I don't send any except to parents/family)

I don't try any new recipes

But I have a £2 tin that we save into all year then in November we cash in to split between us.

My DD is relentless from Hallowe'en , she wants her Christmas bedding on ( grey with stags)

I like to buy things from late Sept onwards. Trying to shop with a couple of full bags is a nightmare , keep having to go back to the car to put in the boot (and yes , I know I can shop online but I like to 'shop' as well)

This year , we have two new cats so my usual Christmas tree with glass baubles is not an option . But I was watching something on TV where the tree just had lights and I thought "I could go with that" . (Pre-lit tree but we put more lights on) .

Christmas is not the same with two teens though, they are very much 'do their own thing' . But I love the run up to it. Buying something for the Christmas table to plan round .

Few days off work .

Go up to London for a peruse .

NoWordForFluffy · 02/06/2019 10:33

@AnyFarrahFowler, that wasn't a Christmas board person, it was somebody finding the thread on 'Active' and coming along to bitch plop. There's plenty of those (and a regular person who has variations on the name 'Lyn' who seemingly can't stay away despite not approving of the board!).

CishAndFips · 02/06/2019 10:59

Yes i absolutely love christmas. Im looking forward to it more so this year as im being very organised this year and already have a lot of presents stashed away in the loft.

We are starting our build up to christmas mid November and im really looking forward to it.

Im looking forward to summer, a few bbq's and our summer holidays too.

MissClareRemembers · 02/06/2019 11:40

I love the build up. Love autumn, Halloween and Bonfire night and the return of Strictly! Love the short days and colder weather and excuse to put the log burner on. Love putting up the decorations and listening to my favourite carols. But I don’t start planning etc till late November at the earliest. Whenever I stumble across the decorations during the rest of the year I get a little frisson of excitement but I do leave it till late!

I like to celebrate each season at the right time otherwise it’s exhausting!

Karlwho · 23/06/2019 17:11

I honestly enjoy every season, an d stay busy all year with different events and celebrations, buuut I frikkin love Christmas. Which is a positive since I'm left to do everything. I do a Christmas notebook/organiser which I've already started, and I start the Holiday Grand Plan every September.
I have no family on my side, but dh has a HUGE family that I buy for, wrap gifts, organise meet -ups etc, as well as my own kids one of which is a December baby, so thinking about it now is just easier for me.

It's nuts to a lot of people, because yeah, it is June, however there's nothing wrong with looking forward to something.

Ive usually started buying gifts by now but this year I have NOTHING.

stackthecats · 23/06/2019 17:46

First half of the year I don't want to hear a thing about it. Then mid-summer I normally start to entertain a Christmas thought or two. I like planning and buying early (my job gets really busy in December, so it helps if I have as much done as possible by then).

But, as a pp said above, it can just be a way of finding a happy place and feeling on top of something when other stuff is a bit out of control. I will freely admit I cope with not being in control of other things in my life by. e.g., making lists and being organised about other stuff that is relatively tame and predictable like Christmas budgets and family presents. And, quite honestly, there are far worse things in the world (and far worse coping mechanisms) than indulging in a bit of out of season Christmas fantasising/present organising, no?

blacksmiths09 · 28/06/2019 08:56

Just seen this thread (I think its now been moved to the Christmas section which is the only area I tend to visit daily)

I LOVE Xmas - I mean SERIOUSLY.

But not the actual day as much as the build-up?!? We put our tree's up (yes that's plural as we have 2 large and 5 small trees) around October. My partner tries to make me wait until after Halloween but by then I've already got two thirds of our christmas stuff up.

We have lights everywhere inside the house - its really looks fantastic. Then there's the films and christmas TV that we love. Movies24 turns into Christmas24 around November and we love to watch the back-to-back made for TV films that often have once-famous stars in. I also have a massive blu-ray/dvd collection of mainstream xmas films (like Home Alone, Christmas Vacation, Muppets Carol etc etc) so we're also watching those from October as well.

I love seeing the Christmas stuff in the shops. I don't often buy any of it (its mostly tat) but I like looking nonetheless)
We love to go to Christmas markets like Grassington Dickensian Festival, or visit places like Whitby because at that time of the year its lovely.

Christmas for me is dark, cool nights with lights and TV and nibbles and time with my family - that about sums it up. The fact that I like it from October doesn't harm anyone!

blacksmiths09 · 28/06/2019 08:59

And the Christmas music! How can I forget to mention that!?!

I love all the tradition offerings that are played every year....but I also like individual albums that artists release.....like Rod Stewart, Lady Antebellum, Micheal Buble etc etc...........

....and i play them from October as well - sometimes I even play them now (June/July)
