OK so I am quite particular about how i like our home.. Clothes to be worn just once, towels used once. Hoover and polish daily etc etc.
But before Xmas, birthdays etc I do a ridiculous deep clean.

Today I have...
washed every door, frame and skirting.
All 4 beds washed Inc hoovering mattresses and flipping over.
Big clear out of toys and clothes. Re arranged all dvds.
Disinfected all floors and surfaces. Cleaned out every kitchen cupboard and sorted the food.. Managed to run a load to food bank drop off point.
2 baskets of ironing.
Scrubbed bathroom.
Collected gifts for kids from storage and re hidden at home.
Defrosed freezer and all washed out.

Then went out to dinner.. Wasn't making a mess after that lol.

Home bath baby, had a soak. Others showered then dp just re did bathroom.
Washing machine on now for the towels.

I actually feel ready for Xmas.

OK reading back I'm crazy but I can't rwalx unless everything is done.

I've cleaned all of the woodwork and windows in the house. And made sure the place is dusted and vacuumed.

The towels are washed on a Monday anyway, and our bedding on a Sunday.

I think we're ready for Christmas without it having taken too much effort really.

DonaldDucksTowel · 23/12/2018 22:45

You do 4 loads of washing a day??? Between 4 people?!
I really hope I’m reading that wrong Shock

ErictheGuineaPig · 23/12/2018 22:46

Do you like cleaning? If so, apart from the burden on the environment, I guess it doesn't matter. If it's something you feel compelled to do because you can't relax otherwise then maybe you should try and do something about it. It sounds like an awful thing to be burdened with. The best example my mum ever set was that there's always more important things to do than clean!!

DonaldDucksTowel · 23/12/2018 22:46

I’ve also just remembered I haven’t put the oven racks in the oven pride bags and I’ve already painted my nails ... what a dilemma

FamilyOfAliens · 23/12/2018 22:52

I only wanted to know if anyone else does this sort of thing.. My mum always did too yet now she's the furthest away from house proud?

Perhaps she’s realised what a waste of time it all was and wants to spend the rest of her life having fun instead.

Snowydaysaregreat · 23/12/2018 22:52

Yes I enjoy it. In fact probably too much

OP posts:
Snowydaysaregreat · 23/12/2018 22:54

Yeah possibly but I enjoy it. I do it when dp at his eve self employed job.. Kids in bed.. Don't particularly enjoy TV or reading.. So not exactly missing out on fun. And I get to have plenty of fun as a family, a couple or making plans with friends.

My house is the same for Christmas as it is on any other day. I might tidy up a bit more but cleaning wise I don’t do anything more than usual.

PinkAvocado · 23/12/2018 22:58

Yes we do. But not the amount of laundry by a long way!

I feel more comfortable when the house is really clean and tidy. I feel on edge when it isn’t.

ErictheGuineaPig · 23/12/2018 22:59

It takes all sorts then I guess 😕

I can't imagine enjoying any of that. But then people say that a lot to me about running.

AppleKatie · 23/12/2018 23:00

I don’t understand how someone as house proud as you pupport to be could possibly have two baskets full of ironing in one day. Surely you do it as you go normally?

TBH if this is true perhaps a trip to the GP in the new year.

I spent 3 hours cleaning my house on Fri for Christmas that was the absolute limit of what I’m prepared to do.

Snowydaysaregreat · 23/12/2018 23:03

One basket of ironing was the bedding out the tumble. One I'd built up of the last few days.. I don't iron everyday.. I don't enjoy that as much.

And no I wouldn't enjoy running.. Or even jogging. But yes each to own.

It’s not great for children’s immune system development to be in a semi sterile environment.

UrsulaPandress · 23/12/2018 23:10

I have no words.

Didsomeonesaybunny · 23/12/2018 23:11

Same here! I actually have a cleaner in both my places but we’ve paid them to have two weeks off. Back at home today for Christmas and have spent literally all day cleaning from top to bottom. We have people coming down from London to stay so I wanted it to be spotless.

I use my towels twice though as I don’t think I could cope with the washing.

Snowydaysaregreat · 23/12/2018 23:14

Touch wood. My teen has only ever had tonsillitis once and never had a sickness bug.. Just the odd cold. ( when my ds was a baby my regime was mega OTT)

My 9m has had 1 cold caught off dsd at 4 weeks.. But nothing since even going to 3 baby groups a week with lots of gerns.

The last time I had a virus or anything was July 2015 I remember as was my brother wedding and felt like crap. And sickness bug I was at school.

Dps last illness was January this year.
No eczema, asthema or anything.. Just 1 food intolerance. Can't be doing that bad hopefully will say that way.

I think with everything we now know about climate change and the impact of our lifestyles on the planet, you should have a serious word with yourself about the amount of washing and cleaning you’re doing and how much of it is necessary.

DonaldDucksTowel · 23/12/2018 23:15

Snowydays this isn’t you at ‘mega OTT’??
What did that look like?

Snowydaysaregreat · 23/12/2018 23:16

@bunny glad not just me.

Its not like I do the whole lot daily. Just washing hoovering and polishing.. It gets very dusty as Windows open all day near a busy Rd. And hoovering.. We'll we have a baby she either makes the mess with god etc or finds any bits..

OP posts:
Snowydaysaregreat · 23/12/2018 23:21

When mega ott? Please don't judgf I think it was a MH thing. I used to scrub the floor with a scourer sponge thingy daily in kitchen and between the tiles with a tooth brush. Windows cleaned daily. Edges of laminate stuff the trim. Cleaned with a tooth brush.. Curtains washed weekly.
That was after a toxic relationship and was a single mum andv took my Mind off things. And the fact I lived in a really run down block of flats that I felt people would judge me.. They've since been Bulldozed as too expensive for the HA to maintain and was moved to a new build property. So I think I felt more relaxed from the off.

But honestly now I enjoy it. It passes time when dp not here and kids in bed.. It don't affect my time with my dcs in the slightest.
I like a clean home.
But I will work on the towels thing..

Elbbob · 23/12/2018 23:23

I think if I'd achieved one of the things on your list in a day I'd be pleased! Hire do you find the energy?
I need to be more efficient like you. You could probably deep clean my 1 bed flat in an hour..
I get distracted by things like reorganising dvds so it takes hours. Although I have a 10 mo who also loves pulling out all the dvds, more than she likes any of her toys!

Snowydaysaregreat · 23/12/2018 23:24

Andv I'll work on the washing loads in general.

I really only wanted to see if people did extra leading to Xmas or do loads at certain times.. I didnt want to come across in any bad way. And reading back I probably do need to do less next year. I will work on it and try to remember to report back?

OP posts:
youarenotkiddingme · 23/12/2018 23:26

I'm not quite as bad but today I have

Cha ged bedding in both rooms
Washed all towels and tumbled ready for baths tomorrow
Cleaned bathroom and kitchen
Ironed and packed away
Washed floors
Hovered.
And yes I've cleaned door frames and skirting boards Blush

Snowydaysaregreat · 23/12/2018 23:27

Haha yes they're so inquisitive at this age. When I meant re organising it was more like.. Disney movies on one shelf. Random kids ones on another. Comedy on another. And checking in cases. We don't have absolute tonnes. (
But plenty to keep dd entertained pulling them out lol).. Dp has boughy a lock on the cupboard door tomorrow morning

OP posts:
RockingAroundTheChristmasTree1 · 23/12/2018 23:27

Yes I'm currently in the middle of doing my deep clean now..all white skirting and doors frames, is a bloody nightmare!!
