What time do you server food on xmas day?

Growing up we skipped breakfast and had a big Christmas lunch at around 12.30pm and then we would have left over meat in sandwiches for dinner. In laws don't eat anything all day and serve Christmas lunch/dinner at 4pm, they also don't allow you to make anything in their kitchen, so if you are staying at their house for Christmas/ Christmas eve you need to take your own snacks otherwise you are starving by the time food is served.
Is it more common to serve the Christmas lunch later in the day or around lunctime around 12ish?

Lunchtime to leave plenty of time for snacks and treats later on In The day!

ImportantWater · 19/12/2018 14:11

About 1.30 now, similarly about 12.30 growing up, and yes Christmas tea is a highlight of Christmas Day so wouldn’t want it later. My inlaws also serve up around 4pm and while this is their right I still find it unsettling.

GrumpyOldMare · 19/12/2018 14:13

Whenever it's ready,be it 1pm or 6pm. It's only me and my son anyway, maybe his dad too.

Can't be doing with planning and timings. I just want a chilled out day.

fenneltea · 19/12/2018 14:14

I always plan to serve for around 1.30, but I usually get sidetracked and we end up eating at about 2.30. I've no hard and fast rules and dinner is ready when it's ready, there's plenty of other food available if people can't wait though.

QforCucumber · 19/12/2018 14:20

Always been around 1ish, finished in time for Queens speech at 3pm (even though we don't actually watch it) I've always just followed my grannies timings!

DailyMailFail101 · 19/12/2018 14:20

We always have a glass of bucks fizz and a breakfast sandwich (bacon or egg) for breakfast about 9pm then eat lunch at about 2pm about 9pm the cheese board comes out! Don’t know anybody who eats before 2pm.

DailyMailFail101 · 19/12/2018 14:21

9am for breakfast *

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/12/2018 14:24

This year around 2, but food available before if Dd wants, she's 17 and just the two of us.

MerryBear · 19/12/2018 14:24

Late afternoon

popcorndiva · 19/12/2018 14:28

We have salmon or bacon bagels for breakfast. Get dressed then leisurely open presents. After that i start the food which is served around 3pm/4pm depending on how big the turkey is. We save the Christmas pudding until 8pm whilst watching tv as everyone is too full after the main. Left over Sandwiches on boxing day

sophisticatedsarcasm · 19/12/2018 14:37

Growing up it used to be 1.30 but last couple of years has been around 2.30/3 to allow time for my brother and his gf to visit her parents beforehand.

sophisticatedsarcasm · 19/12/2018 14:37

We always have bacon sandwiches for breakfast 😊

HRTpatch · 19/12/2018 14:38

About 4pm.

NotSureYet · 19/12/2018 14:43

We always do a full English for breakfast, around 09:00, then presents, and we do Christmas dinner any time between 18:00 and 21:00. Whenever it's ready.

I worry if we did the big meal at lunch time everyone would slip in to a food coma and not move again for the rest of the day.

Magicstar1 · 19/12/2018 14:48

My dad had a big op a few years ago and can't eat too much at one time. So we have everyone over for 3.00 for starters....then they go for a walk and dinner at 5.00...open presents then dessert around 7.00. It's a whole day affair lol, but is nice and relaxing. Also means that nobody falls asleep in a food coma

halcyondays · 19/12/2018 14:48

ideally about 2 pm. I think most people have it around lunchtime rather than dinnertime, but 12.30 is slightly early.

Conseulabananahammock · 19/12/2018 14:52

3pm on the dot 😁

Tors33 · 19/12/2018 14:54

usually about 2pm in my house

skippy67 · 19/12/2018 14:54

About 4.

knittedjest · 19/12/2018 14:55

Serve food around the clock for three days straight as we have lots of people coming and going.

2cats2many · 19/12/2018 14:57

Threads about stingy in-laws who won't let people eat in their houses have become a Christmas tradition on MN. I'm always shocked at these awful hosts who starve their guests.

We have a big breakfast at about 10 and then the main meal at around 3.30-4. Just can't get my act together sooner.

haggisaggis · 19/12/2018 14:57

Around 3.30 - 4.00 ideally - but has been as late as 6.00 p.m.

ShalomJackie · 19/12/2018 15:01

3-4ish with buffet tea usualy just before midnight!

msnowtybach · 19/12/2018 15:02

5pm here. We like a leisurely morning opening presents and dressing before starting to cook around midday.

jessstan2 · 19/12/2018 15:05

We usually go to our son and he serves main meal any time in the afternoon so we don't get there too early and make sure we have had good breakfast! However, he does serve nice snacks beforehand. After dinner we have a good late supper.

It was different when I did it all but things change, we have to adapt.
The important thing is that no-one goes hungry waiting for food.
