Family board game suitable for 4 year old?

Eminybob · 18/12/2018 17:53

I’m looking for recommendations for a board game that we can play as a family at Christmas - 2 adults and a 4 year old.
We have the usual hungry hippos etc, so wanted something a bit more grown up that DH and I will enjoy, but also doable for DS, so nothing that involves reading questions etc for example.
Thanks

We are Going on a Bear Hunt board game looks brill.

angelopal · 18/12/2018 17:55

The Orchard toy games are good. Some of our favorites are shopping list game, 3 little pigs, cake monster and snakes and rainbows.

AppleKatie · 18/12/2018 17:55

If love to know the answer to this. We’re in a pairs loop atm.

Eminybob · 18/12/2018 18:03

Thanks.

To add, the type of games dh and I like to play (pre kids) are trivial pursuit, articulate, heads up, that type of thing. But the kids versions are all still too old for DS.

I really want to get that Christmassy feeling like when I was a kid and we sat and played games all day.

Anything by orchard toys is fab

Eminybob · 18/12/2018 18:06

We have a couple of orchard ones, ds does enjoy them. I’ll have a browse at some others.
The bear hunt game does look good.

Junior cluedo goes down well with dd (4) and ds (8).

And she's been thrashing me at guess who since she was 3 Xmas Grin

You can play lots of games if ds goes on a 'team' with one of you. E.g. When we play top trumps then dd and I are usually a team. I whisper the number to her and she calls it out! Or she chooses which number to say, etc.

LittleMissNaice · 18/12/2018 18:09

I've just bought a pj masks game for ds (4) in Tesco. Its a collaborative game, so hoping to avoid any tantrums!!

RitaTheBeater · 18/12/2018 18:11

I would say Qwirkle would be ok for a four year old.

Rainshowers · 18/12/2018 18:12

Frustration is a favourite in our house-somehow DD is always so lucky she wins about 80% of the time! Dobble is also a good one for something fast and easy for them to join in. We have junior cluedo on her Christmas list.

Mrsoh39 · 18/12/2018 18:13

Have got dd pop up pirate and crazy toaster.

Eminybob · 18/12/2018 18:13

I really like the look of the orchard one “what a performance” does anyone have this?
It says age 5 plus, but wondered if it might be ok for Ds?

Mouse trap, twister, buckaroo, pop up pirate and Disney eye found it, candy land and Disney monopoly are all favourites in our house

museumum · 18/12/2018 18:14

Junior monopoly is good.
But I didn’t enjoy junior game of life

HollowTalk · 18/12/2018 18:15

Snakes and Ladders. Connect 4. What's that one where you ask questions about the faces?

CountFosco · 18/12/2018 18:16

Go old school. Snakes and Ladders and Ludo are very popular here. Or Simon (electronic noise though!), Dobble or dominos.

I'd avoid Orchard Toys because although the games are good for kids you get them a lot as presents and they tend to be a bit samey for adults. We have millions of them, my youngest is now 6 and they are all going to charity.

FlipFlapBat · 18/12/2018 18:16

I saw it first is meant to be good:

wbayvas??? Ebay

Escolar · 18/12/2018 18:23

Game of Life is good. It’s easier for a 4yo than monopoly.

I came on to recommend What a Performance! My 4 year old plays it just fine, although some of the forfeit type actions need some explanation or amendments.

HeyMicky · 18/12/2018 18:26

Junior Alias - similar to Articulate but you can make noises and do charades as well to convey the word

DamnCommandments · 18/12/2018 18:26

What A Performance needs a reader on each team. We've not played it much for that reason.

Dobble is good, though.

timeisnotaline · 18/12/2018 18:28

Snakes and ladders, mousetrap, LuDo, candyland. Our 3yo is getting decent at snakes and ladders and is getting guess who for Christmas. He is also close to beating me at concentration!
