Family board game suitable for 4 year old?

I’m looking for recommendations for a board game that we can play as a family at Christmas - 2 adults and a 4 year old.
We have the usual hungry hippos etc, so wanted something a bit more grown up that DH and I will enjoy, but also doable for DS, so nothing that involves reading questions etc for example.
Thanks

Love a boardgame in this house, and always looking for games the youngest can join in with, we have had success with: Zingo, Sleeping Queens (you can help them play their hand), Dream Cakes, Labyrinth, Race to the Treasure, Uno.

This year we are adding: Double Shutter, Outfoxed, and Trivial Pursuit Parents vs Kids

Four year olds are not always very good losers! We had to stop playing Snakes and Ladders and only play Ladders for a looonngg time.

I've gone super-intellectual and ordered Stinky Pig for 6 ever-so-slightly-pissed-after Christmas-dinner adults, a 2 year old and a 3 year old. Xmas Grin

5 second rule junior - you have 5 seconds to name 3 colours/breakfasts/animals that sort of thing.

Dobble - great fun and pretty equalising for kids and adults
Carcassonne - you can help kids to play but still be cut throat against other adults
Forbidden Island - cooperative game, so you help each other and they learn how to plan as strategies

Dobble is great!

Bugs in the kitchen, Scotland Yard Junior, Frustration, Monopoly Junior, Eye Found it are all popular with my two. Youngest is 5 but we've been playing the above for well over a year.

We also like card games such as Dobble, Uno, Go Fish etc. We use card stands which make them much easier to play for the kids.

Snakes and ladders, Bugs bingo, dobble, dominos, Lynx (adults can play against each other and help the little one later), jenga can be played together. Some orchard games like shopping list, fruit frenzy can be quite tedious for adults, although are usually loved by 3-5 year olds.

Also any versions of memory games (with regular cards or characters), where you open two at a time and collect pairs. Children tend to be good at remembering cards position.

Settlers of Catan Junior, Ticket to Ride First Steps, Labyrinth Junior and Dobble Kids are all playable by a 4 year old and still ok for adults.

My dd has a game called I am, I do it's a bit like charades you get 2 cards and have to act out the character for example the cards could be

I am - a giraffe
I do - mowing the lawn

Its hilarious and there are picture instructions for non readers.

redexpat · 19/12/2018 12:05

dobble!

Junior monopoly and monopoly empire are played a lot here. My 3 and 4 year old love them! Kerplunk is a favourite as is splashy the whale and frustration.

Cards against humanity is a good one
