Would you give this to a four year old?

Bought on a 3 for 2, when I got home and took the sticker off I noticed it says 7+ years. Would it really damage 4 year old's nails? Should I return it or go ahead and give as a gift?

Your 4 year old? I would.

Another 4 year old? Only if you know the parents are ok with nail varnish

Fatted · 15/12/2018 19:41

Probably not as a main gift, but as a stocking filler perhaps? I don't think it would damage the nails. It's likely a child under 7 would need supervision to do it.

I've painted my boys nails when they were younger than 7 while I was doing mine and no one died as a result.

ParisNext · 15/12/2018 19:41

Personally I wouldn’t. I would have been appalled if my dd had received this age 4 as I would never have let her wear the polish and yet she would have wanted to! Petals ask the mother of the girl? If you are not in aposition to ask the I’d return it.

22Giraffes · 15/12/2018 19:42

Yes, as long as the parents were happy with nail varnish as a gift then it makes a very sweet set for a 4yo

angelopal · 15/12/2018 19:43

I have actually bought that exact set for my 4 year old so yes I would.

Stompythedinosaur · 15/12/2018 19:47

Yep, I would.

Soubriquet · 15/12/2018 19:47

Like Sirzy said

Your own 4 year old, yes

Someone else’s..no

LakeIsle48 · 15/12/2018 19:48

I would. The two of you could have some special bonding time together.

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 15/12/2018 19:51

I wouldn't buy it for mine because he'd get the tops off and spill the stuff all over the sofa. Unless I took it out of his hands as soon as he unwrapped and I realised what it was, in which case he'd immediately (and quite reasonably) have a tantrum unless I painted his nails straight away. Which could well be extremely inconvenient. No objection to him having painted nails, but gloss enamel paint no i wouldn't want a 4 year old to unwrap.

Cric · 15/12/2018 19:57

I did the exact same thing!

Enidblyton1 · 15/12/2018 19:58

Check with the Mum - some would be fine with it, others wouldn’t.

MySkirtHasPockets · 15/12/2018 20:00

I wouldn't give this to someone else's child. I only started buying nail polish for my neice a couple of years ago when she was 8!

desperateforsleep2 · 15/12/2018 20:06

Ta, have checked Boots website and there are sets advertised for "not under 3 years", can't find local suppliers of peelable kids nail polish.

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 15/12/2018 20:16

As long as the parents are fine with it then I would. The not under 3 years thing is because smaller children may not have the sense to realise they shouldn't drink it or paint their eyes!

Bumbumtaloo · 15/12/2018 20:40

Yes I would for mine, if it was for another child I would check with their parents.

You can get peelable nail varnish from places like Homebargains and B & M.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/12/2018 20:47

I got peelable stuff from Claire's. I wouldn't buy that for my own daughter, but I would for someone else's if I knew they'd be happy with it.

Hawkmoth · 15/12/2018 20:50

Well... not now after my five year old painted glitter nail varnish on her newly decorated walls.

Mumshappy · 15/12/2018 20:53

I would have had no issue with one of my DDs receiving this when they were four. Its a lovely set too

Helix1244 · 15/12/2018 20:56

No, as above they might get it everywhere. Also as i think pp are saying it may need remover to remove from nails.
Anyway i would expect a 4yo to prefer toys (except as a stocking)

moredoll · 15/12/2018 20:59

Nope, I think it's a bit sexist.

YourEggnogIsBetterThanMine · 15/12/2018 21:03

I have bought that exact set for my DD!

doubleshotespresso · 15/12/2018 21:06

No I wouldn't sorry

italiancortado · 15/12/2018 21:22

Nope, I think it's a bit sexist.

Eh?

akmum18 · 15/12/2018 21:29

I would my own daughters have worn similar from around age 3 because they wanted to be like mummy if it’s not for your own child perhaps take them out of the package and make a mini hamper with a brush and hair accessories to ‘minimise’ the focus incase parents don’t like it

candlefloozy · 15/12/2018 21:33

Someone got this exact gift for my four year old last Christmas. I think it's fine. It's not like proper polish and it never stays long on kids nails anyway
