What do you usually eat on Christmas Eve for dinner/tea/supper whichever you call it. I know so many people that have a full on roast which I've never understood as you're having one the next day? We always get a Chinese- so bad but so good! what's your food traditions?

Cheese board here once kids in bed. Can’t wait!

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 13/12/2018 12:59

We normally have something from the chippy or takeaway so we don't have to cook and then kids early to bed.

Deeedeeee · 13/12/2018 13:01

Simple tapas/mezze style nibbly food (homemade or not, or a mix) wine, mince pies, satsumas. On the sofa, watching an 80s film!!

Seniorschoolmum · 13/12/2018 13:04

Something quick & simple, a risotto or pasta & sauce.

Xmas eve is busy in our house, people doing choir & stuff.

TrickyD · 13/12/2018 13:32

All our sons and their children will be with us so DH is planning to do his Alpine supper, pierrade, raclette with cheese fondue for the veggies and roast veg etc for our vegan. Everyone loves this. We do it on the long table in the conservatory so it does not interfere with my laying the dining room table ready for the next day.

leccybill · 13/12/2018 13:36

TrickyD that's the most Mumsnet post I've ever read Grin

We just get a Chinese walking back from the pub and eat it on our laps Confused

Pork and stuffings butties. Fresh cobs from the supermarket bakery, hot pork and hot stuffing 😍

rosydreams · 13/12/2018 13:52

what ever leaves the least amount of mess in the kitchen lol for christmas

FrannySalinger · 13/12/2018 13:54

My mother always cooked a ham, so now I do too. I try different recipes - sometimes marmalade and cloves, last year a Jamaican jerk one. This year it's a gingerbread spiced one with cherry relish and either Jansen's temptation or dauphinois potatoes.

SweetPeaPods · 13/12/2018 13:55

Nicpem1982 That sounds amazing!

babysharkah · 13/12/2018 13:57

We're having French duo sandwiches this year.

babysharkah · 13/12/2018 13:57

French dip!

gaggiagirl · 13/12/2018 13:57

We normally have 'party tea' we choose a selection of Iceland party foods and put it on a massive plate and pick on all night.
We always have hot chocolate served with home made chocolate spoons.
This year we've been invited out for hog roast sandwiches!

PastramiAndRye · 13/12/2018 14:01

We had a big lasagne last year, but this year ALDI had some nice looking tear and share bread and baking Camemberts. That'll do me!

peterpanwendy · 13/12/2018 14:03

This year it's pulled pork buns with apple sauce

Nicpem1982 · 13/12/2018 14:03

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 13/12/2018 14:06

Indian.

Sailinghappy · 13/12/2018 14:07

We make Toad in the Hole together with lots of veggies and lashings of gravy. We also bake cookies and decorate them for Santa so there’s usually a few of those around to have with hot chocolate and a Christmas film too 🤩🤩🤩 cannot wait, I love Christmas Eve!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 13/12/2018 14:07

I'm roasting a ham and we'll have it in fresh baguette, then reheat slices for with the turkey the next day. We'll eat it on the couch in front of the telly and drop bits on the floor for the cats Grin

GinandGingerBeer · 13/12/2018 14:14

I usually do a ham in mustard, honey & cloves and we have that with pickes, naice bread and a few party foods.
