Hi mumsnetters! I'm really sorry this has been asked so many times but how much have you spent on Christmas this year ? Have you actually sat down and went through your spending? I was inspired by reading the thread regarding the spending twitch we all get at Christmas and it made me laugh as I've had to force myself this week to stop buying unnecessary stuff for my dd's, I actually thought I was on plan with my budget for my dd's , oh how wrong could I have been I sat down and worked out I'd actually spent double my proposed budget per dd's! I'm actually discusted with myself but my DH told me that the dd's knever ask or get much during the year as we are always budgeting and have had such a bad run of luck this year Xmas Blush

On presents, probably about £500 for everyone. Have the Christmas food shop to do too which will probably be another £100

Villanellesproudmum · 14/12/2018 15:14

Around £1440, that includes gifts for dd, parents, Aunt and Uncle, couple of friends, boss plus weekend away in London.

ohtheholidays · 14/12/2018 15:20

About 2.5k on presents, that's for our 5DC,my DH,my family,DH's family, friends and teachers and about another £500 on food and drink for Christmas and Christmas days out.

DragonMamma · 14/12/2018 15:23

Around £1000 on presents and then there will be another couple of hundred on food and goodies.

I still have a few more presents to get.

I’d put by £700 throughout the year so it’s not been too bad. I’ve already started saving for next year via a work saving scheme. I should have around £1200 but the time I draw the money down

Skyejuly · 14/12/2018 16:04

I always think we all wake up boxing day having had a good day and what was spent is forgotten so it's pointless imo the feeling of Christmas is the same so if you can do it for less that I say that more creative+

caperplips · 14/12/2018 16:08

I'd say by the time we're done it will be £1,500 / £2,000

HighwayDragon1 · 14/12/2018 18:07

All in, including food and travel I'd say around £1000

wentmadinthecountry · 14/12/2018 18:20

Not a lot so far - should I have started my Christmas shopping yet???

MarshaBradyo · 14/12/2018 18:24

A lot because eldest got the Lego thing of his dreams (Death Star costs a fortune)

Spent the same on the middle one

Also a holiday

Tree was a biggie

Only saving grace is no turkey as we’re away

AlbusPercival · 14/12/2018 18:30

DS is 2, spent about £200 on him. Which is madness, but I can afford it.

Gave spent about £25 each on neices and nephews, and another £200 on other people.

Staying in hotel over Xmas is costing £120.

It’s a lot of money but we save over the year.

BreakYourselfAgainstMyStones · 14/12/2018 18:31

Loads, but I have 6 kids so it's never going to be cheap.

Probably about 2 grand on presents (been picking things up from around summer time) maybe 300 on nights out, probably about 300 for food and drink too.

I can't wait.

caringcarer · 14/12/2018 18:33

I have three grown up children and they will get £75 cash each and a small stocking with socks, pants, shower gel, chocolate orange etc. for about £40 each. Foster child (12) the same as my own kids but he won't get cash but more pressies. DGC x2 3years and 4 months £50 each with prezzies wrapped in stocking , DH £100, 4 x dniece/nephews £15 each. parentinlaws £50. Food about £600-£700 as hosting my dd, sil and 2 grandchildren on this Sunday and my dsis, bil and her 4 dc from 29th-3rd Jan. Also treating dh and myself to weekend away in Jan. We could easily afford to spend more but don't agree with overspending at Xmas and spend more on birthdays. Interestingly dfoster child (12) told us he did not want much as he already had everything he needed.

Chosennone · 14/12/2018 18:38

In my head it was around 160 pm each DC and around £200 on DH, parents and nieces and nephews! In reality I've spent more like £230 on each DC including stockings. I'd forgotten my various secret Santa's that are another £50. My Xmas good shop is around an extra £200. One works do is free and in wearing a dress I already have. The other one will be around £80 including taxi. Xmas family meal out another £100

HairyToity · 14/12/2018 19:18

£270 on presents covers our two children, nephew, two nieces, godson and two sets of grandparents. DH and I don't buy for each other. Probably will spend £300 on entertaining and panto tickets.

ilovetea14 · 14/12/2018 21:01

I've spent on my Ds 7 €322 that's santa presents, Christmas eve box and stocking. My Dd 3 I spent €145 same as Ds. Everything else teacher presents 3 to buy for give money to sister for Xmas Dinner. 14 neices and nephews, friends, Dh, parents+in laws 3 kris kindles, wrapping paper gift bags cards, sweets for house and soft drinks/alcohol. Santa and Christmas bedding for Dd comes too €933.

Angelinthenight · 14/12/2018 23:26

Id say almost £3,000 ish thats 5 children & big ish family and that will include food also all the teachers gifts etc and charity gifts. We save all year and buy bits through the year too.

Prob around £1800 Blush so too much really have to try and cut back next year

KitKat1985 · 15/12/2018 12:47

Between me and DH we've probably spent just under £400 on presents for our 2 DDs (4&2), each other, our respective families and nephews etc. I've probably spent about another £60 on Christmas outings as well.

We could have gone more overboard but we're saving for a big family holiday to Florida in May and we prioritised that over Christmas presents.

Frankswife87 · 16/12/2018 03:49

Thanks mumsnetters! I don't feel so bad now, so my original budget was £300 per child but I ended up going way over. My youngest DD has Sen and it's very limiting to what I can get her think baby toys for an older child like a rattle or toy keys, I ended up spending £800 on my eldest DD so way over double her budget but she's ended up with a lovely violin for her music lessons rather than us having to hire one. The food shop is from Sainsbury's and is currently at £250 but that will last us two weeks. A naice meat hampers from a posh online butcher cost £200 but it will last us ages. My so helpful DH thought he would help by ordering us a meat hampers from a local butcher but forgot to tell me do that's £75. We are spending £50 each on our two dnieces. My dm and df are getting £50 Argos vouchers as requested. Me and dh have decided against buying each other presents this year we feel there's nothing we really need . Oh and tomorrow we are going for a family Christmas meal at a local pub for 21.00 per head. Xmas Shock

TheChristmasBear · 16/12/2018 03:53

About a grand. DH maybe similar.

INeedNewShoes · 16/12/2018 03:58

Roughly £200 for 6 adults, 2 teenagers and my 18m old DD.

DD's accounts for about £50 of that.

Villanellesproudmum · 16/12/2018 09:37

I usually spend around £200-300 on dd (only child) but this year with GCSEs and A levels eventually I’ve splashed out on a MacBook. Plus a few other things, very excited to see her face as we only have use of my work laptop she’ll be very surprised 🎄🎄

Oneinthegrave · 16/12/2018 09:48

£150 on DS (1) and £200 on DS (7) £100 on DP about £100 for all family and £100 on food & drink so £550 not bad

Oneinthegrave · 16/12/2018 09:49

650

SweetheartNeckline · 16/12/2018 09:58

Will probably be £650 all in for all presents, PTA stuff, quite a few days out / meals out and any "special" food and drink eg for hosting. Included in that figure we have probably spent £120 per child on gifts and clothes. Some of that has been cash, some of it Tesco/Boots points. We have 3 DDs under 7.
