Hi mumsnetters! I'm really sorry this has been asked so many times but how much have you spent on Christmas this year ? Have you actually sat down and went through your spending? I was inspired by reading the thread regarding the spending twitch we all get at Christmas and it made me laugh as I've had to force myself this week to stop buying unnecessary stuff for my dd's, I actually thought I was on plan with my budget for my dd's , oh how wrong could I have been I sat down and worked out I'd actually spent double my proposed budget per dd's! I'm actually discusted with myself but my DH told me that the dd's knever ask or get much during the year as we are always budgeting and have had such a bad run of luck this year Xmas Blush

About £50 for DS and £25 for DD. That will be it on presents as they don’t need anything else. Stockings will be in addition, about £20 each but include things like pants and socks that they need. I really can’t be doing with spending lots and lots on them. They will also get presents from grandparents and aunts and uncles so it’s more than enough.

Spent £30 on a tree and will take c.£50 of food/drink to my parents where we will be going for Christmas Day.

4 nieces and nephews at £10-15 each.

Under £200 all inc will be the total.

Justabadwife · 14/12/2018 08:45

Eeek.
I've spent in total on presents about £1300. That's for 12 kids and 11 adults, but half that money was on dd (9)

PinkyU · 14/12/2018 08:46

around £2000, not including food and drink though we’re not hosting on the big day we are taking family out for the 3 days following. We’ve still a few bits to get for family as well, including my DM. I think by the end we’ll be circa £2500/2700.

babysharkah · 14/12/2018 08:50

A lot.

PoisonousSmurf · 14/12/2018 08:54

At the most £100 each for two DDs. What sticks in my craw, is having to buy for my SILs. I only ever see them once a year (boxing day) and they never do anything Auntie like with our DDs. So I don't really want to waste money on them.
But on DHs side of the family, it's tradition to buy each other loads of presents, even if it's all crap!
One good quality present is all they are getting from me.
Bah humbug!

CrookedMe · 14/12/2018 08:55

£900 all in. I work it all out on a spreadsheet first then shop according to the allocation for each person.

I8toys · 14/12/2018 08:58

God I daren't think! £200ish on mum but its her birthday on Christmas eve as well. £100 on husband. £30 on cats. Kids have joint presents totally £200 and then about £200 each, so about £600 on kids. £40 niece, £60 in laws, Food about £200, others £100. So about £1500 ish.

MaidenMotherCrone · 14/12/2018 09:02

£2.74 so far but I’ve got the twitch and can see me hitting £3. This happens every year and I know I’ve got to get a grip.

wendz86 · 14/12/2018 09:25

About £400 on presents , less than half of that on my two dd's.

Prob about £150 on work night out , lunch with work and santa trips etc.

MamaDane · 14/12/2018 09:34

I've spent about:
£120 on my DP
£40 on my nephew
£40 on my mum
£30 on my brother and SIL
£70 on our friend who just gave birth (combined birthday and Christmas present for the little one)

Will probably buy my grandparents a present as well.

My DP pays for her side of the family. She uses about £30-40 on every person. Smile

tissuesosoft · 14/12/2018 09:37

£300- £120 on DD and the rest on 11 family members.

Lovemusic33 · 14/12/2018 09:40

Probably around £1000 including all gifts and food.

Biologifemini · 14/12/2018 09:43

About 50 quid on Lego for my 6 year old. And I thought that was a lot.
Friends and family buy lots of bits and pieces so it seems excessive to buy too much.

Funnyface1 · 14/12/2018 09:56

I really don't know, far too much! Still time to buy more too.

Auntiepatricia · 14/12/2018 10:00

My 4 are little (all under 6) so I’ve spent about £130 in total.

6yr old
Retro handheld computer game
Nerf gun
Nerf bullets and armband
Pound shop Lego
Comic drawing book
Markers
Socks
Box of chocolate buttons
Chocolate coins

4yr old
Battery operated walk along rabbit
Box set of faraway tree books
Paint pens
Lip balm set
Jigsaw set
Pants
Chocolate buttons
Marshmallows

3yr old
Make up set
Disney belle shoes
Play doh pack
Wand
Tiara
Pants
Chocolate buttons
Chocolate coins

Baby
Jellycat giraffe
Little duplo
Wooden worm toy
Socks
Chocolate buttons

I know I could spend loads but they already have so much stuff there is almost nothing they actually want so giving them more and more is not the answer to that problem. So I’m keeping it sensible.

Auntiepatricia · 14/12/2018 10:01

Also, I think the above is actually more than enough. It’s lots of stuff!

CarolDanvers · 14/12/2018 10:03

£1k. That’s for everything though - two children’s presents, family presents (never go over £15/20 per person) and food.

388 on 4dc and family. Definitely not gone mad.

Shazafied · 14/12/2018 11:28

£230 all in I think:

About £150 in total on gifts (DD 1 year old, my husband, my parents, 1 niece, 1 nephew , 4 friends).

We will do a big food shop a couple of days before Xmas - it won’t all be for Xmas but some will, and we’ll but things we would by normally buy, wine etc. Probably total £80 (for me, husband, baby, snacks for a few friends who’ll pop in and out).

hidinginthenightgarden · 14/12/2018 12:37

About £250-300 on presents for everyone.

WE had £150 in amazon vouchers from buying through a cash back site and doubled up nectar points so had £60 to spend there too.
Also had some love2shop vouchers that I found in the cupboard from months ago so used them to buy DD's balance bike. We have literally paid half of what we would have without the vouchers so I am really pleased!

Food to buy still which will cost around £60 I think.

Pinkprincess1978 · 14/12/2018 13:17

We have spent £200 on each DC with about £50 more to go. About the same on each other, pil will probably have about £60/£70 between them. Sil had joint Xmas a bday next year which was £72. Friend about £25. So probably around £1000 on presents. I've cut back on all other family.

Food - order made last night, think it was around £120 but DH has already bought all meat at around £33. We bought lots of wine with nectar points (spent £90) and I have quite a few bottles of prosecco I saved from my birthday.

I think all in xmas probably costs us £1500. Maybe a little more depending on nights out. This year neither of us are doing a work xmas party so that's saved us money.

Titsywoo · 14/12/2018 13:55

DC have had about £240 each spent on them, £60 on DH, then about £100 on family and friends - we don't do many presents for them as we have agreed no gifts with most! I have £200 to spend on food and drink which is easily enough. So nearly £750 still which does sound a lot!

MrsCrapBag · 14/12/2018 14:44

We got a new car in October so DH & I agreed to presents for each other as nothing we really needed/wanted. Only had mum, dad & MIL to buy for, spent £75 in total. Got most things cheap or in the sales so managed to get them nice things I know they'll like but without breaking the bank 🎅

NachoCheese22 · 14/12/2018 15:02

I don't know exactly but by the time Ive finished about £2000. That's on 2 teenage DDs, my husband and his large family who all give gifts back so is a must, and I'm cooking Christmas dinner (I've ordered 4 desserts from M&S alone Grin) We can afford it though. I would never get into debt for Christmas.
