Stockings for older teenagers.

DS is 19, but still quite young for his age. DH and I are discussing whether to still do him a stocking. His 8 year old sister will obviously still be getting one.

At what point do you stop doing them?

I think the last time I did stockings was when my kids were 12.

knittedjest · 10/12/2018 08:21

All but one of mine are adults and these days I just fill them with chocolate, sweets, a pack of underwear and socks and a magazine subscription (these last two just for nostalgia sake. They can of course buy their own underwear). Maybe if I see something really small around I will chuck it in there as well but I don't go out of my way to find stuff like that.

KnockMeDown · 10/12/2018 08:22

I think one of the reasons we have kept it up is for DD, and also DS is not great with change, as he has Aspergers.

I still do stockings (nearly 18), I think I'll continue until they leave home.

SuperSuperSuper · 10/12/2018 08:27

My mate still gets one from her parents at 46! She's married with kids of her own. I don't see why an adult child can't have a stocking. It's not as though you'll be filling it with Minions stuff and playmobile. Merry Christmas!

Greensleeves · 10/12/2018 08:30

We do them for everyone in our house, adults included. Our boys are 14 and 16 now and just as excited about them as they ever were. We put in things like headphones, a little book light for ds1, light up yoyo for ds2, nice chocolates, a little book for ds1, whoopee cushion for ds2.

WolfhoundsofLove · 10/12/2018 08:32

Blimey, i don’t think you can do one for his sister and not for him, too, especially as he’s a bit young for his age. We still do stockings for ours at 17 and 22! It’s just a bit of fun, they mainly get filled with sweets and naice treats.

ghostsandghoulies · 10/12/2018 08:36

My 17 year old is getting one. Teen presents are often little so perfect to pop in a stocking. Stuff that'll be inside is a scratch card, chocolate, a spare set of earphones etc

BertrandRussell · 10/12/2018 08:36

Mine are 17 and 22. Still get stockings!

fleshmarketclose · 10/12/2018 09:55

Mine are aged 30 to 15 they all get stockings it's their favourite part of the day. Blu tac, post it notes, earphones and charging cables, deodorant and moisturiser, undies and socks, chocolate and Pringles, a dvd/magazine or a book and then something like a build it yourself wind up toy so they can have races at the table, or those iblock figures that they have as a competition or a card game that they play together. It always takes me straight back to when they were small, the bossy one is still bossy and the competitive one hasn't changed, stockings make me smile.

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 10/12/2018 10:16

If there's only the two of them then I wouldn't just do it for one. Bit different if they were both late teens and you wanted to stop.

It doesn't have to be expensive: his favourite soap or shower gel, hair care stuff, fun socks, a small torch, key ring, wallet ninja, some edibles, a mini puzzle, earphones, phone charger etc

fromtheshires · 10/12/2018 10:17

Get him a stocking.

There is no need for it to be childish. I'm in my 30's and I still get a stocking every year. It has socks, some sweets, a couple of satsumas and some other small bits that are pointless wrapping.

If he has Aspergers then you will know him best and how he would react but it does no harm to get him a stocking and pop in some sweets, pants, socks, a bottle of beer etc.

I view some things as ageless. I still have an advent calendar and not ashamed to admit it.

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 10/12/2018 10:29

I do stockings for my very late teenagers it wouldn't occur to me not to I'll probably still do them when they're 40!
I just put sweets in and socks and bits

SeaViewBliss · 10/12/2018 10:32

DD 20 and DS 13 will get one whenever they are at home for
Christmas. DD moved out this year but will be home from 21st.

My DB and I got them from my DPs until we left home.

Theoryofmould · 10/12/2018 10:53

My dd is 19 and she’s getting one. I’m sat here looking at the small but useful pile and willing it to wrap itself. I’ve got 6 days to sort it before she comes home.

Sethis · 10/12/2018 10:56

Condoms, a bottle of Jaeger and a gift voucher for his favourite gaming platform would probably go down well.

VioletCharlotte · 10/12/2018 10:58

Mine are 19 and 17, they'd be devastated if they didn't get stockings. They still get in bed with me Christmas morning to open them!

They'll be getting pants, socks, body spray, chocolate, etc.

HelenaJustina · 10/12/2018 11:00

My Mum did us them until we moved out!

Ontopofthesunset · 10/12/2018 11:01

Christmas socks, underwear, earphones, chocolate coins, sweets and snacks, deodorant and shower gel. Mostly useful stuff.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/12/2018 18:05

My DC are 19yo(DS) and 16yo (DD)

They'll have stockings (tapestry , light up) because their presents are now tiny and ££

They don't need the 5am keep-them-busy ones now Xmas Grin

They will have all beautifully wrapped and ribboned presents , in their stockings that I'll leave in their rooms for when they drag themselves out of slumber.

No Big Box Presents now so nothing under the tree.

They got winter PJs/underwear/bathrobe + Advent calender in their Dec 1st Boxes so they can use them as winter starts
I bought some ;proper' Christmas PJs (Primark ones) for DD , they have a jar of sweets each and a selection box - that'll be Christmas Eve along with the Lush Bathbombs (Tradition)

Ellapaella · 10/12/2018 19:03

My 16 year old still gets a stocking and I'll be doing one for a few years yet - it's his favourite bit of Christmas!
This year I put in smellies, hair putty, after shave, a book light, a book, Christmas socks, sweets and chocolates, pens, nail clippers, a Christmas pudding bath bomb, a new Gillette razor, a Starbucks voucher and a few other bits and pieces.

Papergirl1968 · 10/12/2018 19:07

Should stocking presents not be wrapped then?
I found some chocolate stirrers in Aldi or Lidl the other day which will go in dds.

Papergirl1968 · 10/12/2018 19:08

Along with other stuff obviously!
But I usually wrap stocking fillers - don’t I need to?

Ellapaella · 10/12/2018 19:40

@Papergirl1968 I do wrap some and leave some unwrapped. It's just the way my mum did it so that's what I do.

Marmitemadmummy · 10/12/2018 20:45

I've got my two teenagers a large box of pringles has 8 mini boxes in. I think they will love these 😀 called stack them from the Range.
