Cheese board

What's on your cheese board this Christmas? I'm looking forward to the usual Brie, Stilton and extra strong Cheddar but would love some other ideas.
Also looking for recipes or links to any particularly good chutneys to enjoy with my cheeseboard.

I've picked up a Wensleydale from Lidl that apparently has mulled wine flavours. The rest will be pretty standard - I'll probably just add a cheddar, some stinky blue stuff for my dad, a Brie and a double Gloucester with chive or whatever it is that appears around Christmas. Although I did see a cheddar with chilli wreath in Tesco today...

Swaledale from Waitrose

Shropshire/Cropwell/Nottingham Blue

Delice de Bourgogne/tripple cream,

Derby Sage

Smoked cheese (I love Asda's one...even if it processy)

Any Goats cheese, but there is a cave aged goats cheese that has the consistincy of a chedder

There's more...I love cheese

Sorry to jump on the post OP - but I was wondering what else, other than cheese, you put out with a cheese board? I think my family would enjoy one but never sure when or how to do one.

fatbottomgirl67 · 23/11/2018 22:32

Belton red fox , it's lovely

dahliaaa · 23/11/2018 22:33

Wensleydale and Christmas cake is the best thing about Christmas Day !

OneStepMoreFun · 23/11/2018 22:37

Black pepper Boursin - even nicer than the garlic and herb one.
Pie d'Angloys - like Brie but nicer
Comté

Leeds2 · 23/11/2018 22:39

I love Wensleydale with cranberries. Available in most supermarkets.

mama, typically you would put out biscuits/crackers (buy a mixed box of Jacob's in the cracker aisle!), chutney and grapes.

We had truffle honey with a cheeseboard in a posh hotel. It was amazing.

Bought this one since. You only need the tiniest bit but it is a taste sensation with good cheese.

Applewood cheddar is rather yummy. I opt for it over a mature cheddar these days.

nicslackey · 23/11/2018 22:48

Celery and crusty bread. Slices of pear, chilli tomato chutney, olives, roasted peppers, salami, parma ham, sun dried tomatoes. I love platters of cheese and bits and loads of wine of course. I love Camembert,Cambazola, the one from Lidl like Port Salut (forget the name) Wanders off to find some cheese!

DontCallMeBaby · 23/11/2018 22:48

Membrillo paste or quince jelly. Really crisp but fairly bland crackers - water biscuits are the easiest to come by, Jacobs crackers are crap. Too crumbly. I do love a digestive or similar with a hard cheese though.

Grapes for the vitamins but no bastard celery.

Cheese-wise, just all the cheeses above with very few exceptions (I don’t like smoked cheese myself). St Helens Farm goats cheese in blue wax goes a treat with that membrillo paste. Perl las Welsh blue. Manchego. And definitely Epoisses and Hereford Hop, the former will make your fridge smell like death but the answer to that is to eat it.

A huge lump of Colston Basset Stilton is a must. Alongside it, I would usually put a soft, creamy chèvre, a strong mature cheddar and something different ; Cornish Yarg, perhaps?

Lookatmemeow · 23/11/2018 23:06

Brillat Savarin

Sauvignonblanket · 23/11/2018 23:09

Preparing for all of Mumsnet to disagree... but....

Stichelton rather than Stilton (the way they used to make Stilton pre-war)

I love Toast for Cheese (and Boursin with it) too

Cambazola

Lookatmemeow · 23/11/2018 23:12

These crackers are delicious

I love a good cheese ball on a cheeseboard at Christmas. Preferably with lots of pecans and cranberries as the 'crust'. Oh now that's made me hungry 😋

myrtleWilson · 23/11/2018 23:16

ooh good thread.... I don't know yet - there is a gorgeous cheese shop we go to (bit of a drive but thats all part of the charm) so we'll go and ask for a selection of about 7 cheeses, get to taste loads and make a decision, Really nice trip out! Cheese shop also does amazing on line delivery and gift deals - last year I bought my sister a quarterly cheese delivery of 3 cheeses - she loved it!

Goingonandonandon · 23/11/2018 23:19

I am mad about comte cheese, not sure if it fits in with Christmas but it will def. be my treat this Christmas. It's also the only time of year when I have stilton. Can't be beaten.

waxy1 · 23/11/2018 23:30

All sheeps’ cheeses are lovely.
