Sorry, this is really really long for a present thread Blush but I think it's relevant.

DGF has had a difficult 6 months. He's currently recovering from a gastrectomy due to stomach cancer and is now pretty much bound to the bed/sofa.

Prior to his recent poor health, he was very into walking (12+ miles regularly), fitness, gardening, travelling etc, but he's had to give up all of these hobbies.

I'm struggling to find him a thoughtful gift that he'd enjoy. Presents he's had previously included walking gear, gym classes, food gifts, gardening tools/ornaments.

DGF never learned to read, so I can't buy him anything personalised, books, or basically anything with words on.

He was an alcoholic (gave up drinking completely before surgery) so we never buy him alcohol.

Please help, we're all at a loss!

A window bird feeder may be a nice “stocking filler” type thing, bringing nature closer to him etc

Rather than making a photo book, how about an actual album? There's something extra personal about real photos. Even if you have to get some of your digital photos printed, I'm sure he'd love it.

Sadly, we'v had lots of practice at this subject in the last year four times over, and the things which were most appreciated included things that kept you comfortable and warm. I bought a cashmere wrap for my best friend, which she loved for its softness and because she felt the cold. Maybe that wouldnt be the right thing for him (!) but a really soft knitted blanket and some good quality brushed cotton pyjamas might be nice.

Also, how about flowers? Years ago, when my DDad was terminally ill, my best friend used to send him flowers as he too was an outdoor person. He loved them, which surprised me really, but it was having the garden indoors which he found very comforting. And talking of flowers, these Flowers are for you.
