Which gin?

My mum and stepdad have all they need, and don’t usually ask for much for Christmas. But they love gin. Specifically Tanqueray.

I’m not a gin drinker, but would love to treat them both to a really nice bottle, and perhaps get them something different.

I know they’ve tried other brands and have also liked Bombay Sapphire and Pinksters, but did NOT like GB gin!

Any gin connoisseurs fancy giving me a nudge in the right direction? I was looking at Isle of Harris gin, but would appreciate your suggestions!

Tanqueray 10 as PP suggest if you know they like tanqueray.

Harris gin is beautiful but not 'savoury' to me it's a very clean dry finish.

NoWayNoHow · 21/11/2018 17:05

Another vote for Bathtub Gin - it's my absolutely favourite, and Bombay Sapphire is what got me liking gine many moons ago so your folks should like it too.

Monkey 47 is also great, but I know some struggle with it being a bit TOO flavoursime...

Harris is nice, but my favourite is also a Scottish one Arbikie Aks, it tastes amazing.

gamerchick · 21/11/2018 19:22

Rhubarb and rosehip gin liqueur. It's about 26 quid but is so nice you can drink it with no mixers.

For me there's no question. If you want a classic, full flavoured gin, it's Plymouth Navy Strength every time. Makes great g&t's and tooth tingling Martinis. Also sensational in any negroni.

I think Brockman’s is in a league of its own.

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 21/11/2018 19:32

Brockmans and Bloom are nice

Oct18mummy · 21/11/2018 19:35

Tinker gin

Me and my friends went to gin festival this was our clear favourite

Ffsnosexallowed · 21/11/2018 19:35

Gin bothy original, or kirsty's gin from arbikie. Harris isn't the easiest to get hold of, but it lovely.

Cotswolds gin seconded here! Drink with with a good chunk of grapefruit and a Fever Tree tonic. Small tins only for the tonic. It makes a stunning drink. Don’t forgot to drink from a great glass with lots of big chunks of ice

claracluck78 · 21/11/2018 19:45

At the minute I'm loving the following:
Bombay Sapphire (my always go-to gin)
Tanquaray sevilla
Caspyn
Mary Rose
Christopher Wren (from the City of London distillery)
And
Dorset Conker

I also love Plymouth Naval but don't have a bottle of that at mo

gingercat02 · 21/11/2018 19:48

Do you have a local distillery? There are 2 or 3 local to us and I often take them as gifts as they aren't available everywhere so they are interesting

FitzChivalryFarseer · 21/11/2018 19:58

Brockmans
Monkey 47
Hendricks for ‘every day’

Not the Tanqueray Sevilla!

FitzChivalryFarseer · 21/11/2018 20:03

Looking in my gin cupboard ( Blush ), I also have:
Brighton gin
Salcombe gin
Dorset conker
Star of Bombay
Foxdenton raspberry and a damson (finished the mulberry last week)
Heston lazy sherbet
Lidl Hortus citrus
A privately distilled one from my father
And about 10 miniatures awaiting sampling

FitzChivalryFarseer · 21/11/2018 20:04

Oh, and about 5 litres of homemade sloe gin.

KeepCalm · 21/11/2018 20:18

You're going to want Gin Bothy Gin. It is AMAZING and they're doing free delivery online.

They have gift boxes I have to everyone least year but their raspberry and gunshot varieties are spectacular.

And no, I don't work for them, just drink it lol

KeepCalm · 21/11/2018 20:20

And the bottles are lovely too ....

immummynoiam · 21/11/2018 20:20

Can I vote Harris gin too? Also a lovely social distillery providing employment on Harris. Big gin fan, and absolutely love this. Gorgeous bottle too.

YolandiFuckinVisser · 21/11/2018 20:20

Lone Wolf

imaflutteringkite · 21/11/2018 20:22

Either Robin of Loxley or Hepple gin would be my choices.

PinglePongle · 21/11/2018 20:31

Tanqueray Sevilla is now £17.50 on Amazon

GoldenCurls · 21/11/2018 20:35

Wow, thanks for all the responses!

Interesting a few have mentioned Brockmans, I know they also like that.

They’re very fussy about gin and I just want to try and get something different to what they’ve had before. I definitely won’t take the risk with a flavoured gin though, I think they prefer “traditional” gin.

I second @gingercat02 with seeking out local distilleries - several in Norfolk including Bullards in Norwich. Just redone their bottles, really nice - quite solid, lots of interesting detail. They do a London Dry which is very good (quite powerful). And just launched an Old Tom which I've tried and is very good. They're in a lot of restaurants, bars etc here but you can buy online. Possibly also from Majestic?

tinstar · 21/11/2018 21:12

Can't beat a glass of Hendricks, plain tonic, slice of cucumber and ice 🍸. Delicious!

allupsidedown · 21/11/2018 23:07

My favourites are
Harris
Caorunn
Rock n rose
Eden mill
Edinburgh

Harris gin bottles are so beautiful that people pay a fortune just for the empties. They make beautiful lamps!
