Crackers that are a bit different.

I have looked at the crackers in my supermarket (Waitrose) and even though a box of 12 is £30, they are still rubbish. I do not want any more keyring or nail clippers, nor do I want a Santa board game. I do not want to make my own crackers either.

At the moment the front runner is Hotel Chocolate crackers. Yum

Anyone else found some great crackers that are good quality and different from the norm?

Watching this thread with interest. There is a bowl in our dining room full of the cracker gifts. No one ever uses them

We've got some from JL that have magic tricks inside. Maybe not to everyone's taste, bit will suit my dc.

Stompythedinosaur · 01/11/2018 18:29

In previous years I've done the fill your own cracker thing with reasonable success.

NewBabyNoName · 01/11/2018 18:35

Someone mentioned on another thread Oxfam Crackers with wooden tree decorations which sound good.

I've had a look and they are showing as out of stock but I'm going to see if they do them nearer Christmas link

Disneydilemma · 01/11/2018 18:39

Still crap gifts but we enjoyed ‘pass the sprout’ much more than we were expecting to a couple of years ago!

Or what about the musical ones with bells or whistles inside and everyone makes an orchestra!

ignatiusjreilly · 01/11/2018 18:40

NewBabyNoName I saw those mentioned on the other thread too, and thought they sounded great!

I think the page you've linked to is for last year's crackers. The new ones are in stock via www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/product/festive-foliage-christmas-crackers-6-pack-hn502486

Another vote for fill your own crackers. You can buy them from Hobbycraft for about a pound each and tailor the gift to the recipient. Little toys for kids and alcohol miniatures for adults etc.

Weetabixandshreddies · 01/11/2018 18:43

The best ones that we've had are the musical ones. Everyone really enjoyed them.

I'm not buying crackers this year though I like the look on some in M&S (they're like a big fortune cookie shaped like a Christmas tree) .
No noise though, sadly. DS said we'd have to shout BANG really loud when we pull them Xmas Grin

Following!

Iaimtomisbehave1 · 01/11/2018 19:41

For the kids, I do Legomen and Pokemon.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 01/11/2018 19:47

In previous years we've bought the ones from Tesco with wind up toys- we've had penguins, reindeer and sprouts :)

OnceUponATimeInAmerica · 01/11/2018 19:48

I do fill your own ones now. Need inspiration for what to put in for the kids this year. Have a range of miniatures for the adults.

Wednesdaypig · 01/11/2018 20:04

I buy cheap but good looking ones (12 for £5), save the snap and joke and put my own surprise in. E.g. Miniature alcohol (one year was MN dishwasher vodka), hexbugs, those beer mats with moustaches on, different pitched whistles for carols, finger torches etc. We are all adults so slightly easier.

ritzbiscuits · 04/11/2018 12:55

Bought the Santa racing game ones from Tesco at £6. My son is 5 so will love this.

I'll also be popping to Aldi next Sunday as they have Origami, Magic Trick and Balloon Modelling ones in for £5.

SnuggyBuggy · 04/11/2018 12:57

Fill your own crackers sound like a nice idea

SassitudeandSparkle · 04/11/2018 12:57

Yeah, the racing santas went down really well here too!

Sometimes you can get a giant cracker with tat items in, we've had Hello Kitty ones when DD was young Grin

“Or what about the musical ones with bells or whistles inside and everyone makes an orchestra!”

We had those one year and were the last straw for me. Not a nice noise! 😂

megletthesecond · 04/11/2018 13:04

Pass the Sprout is fun.

We've had magic trick and origami crackers in the past. The magic set was fun, we all had 5 mins to practice before performing our tricks. This year I've bought xylophone note crackers from John Lewis.

Fstar · 04/11/2018 19:59

What about beauty crackers or baubles, might end up costing a lot though
