How many gifts do your kids get to unwrap?

I'm not interested in value just number.

I'm counting a gift as anything from a Playstation to a Selection Box.
I'm well aware people have different budgets and shop in different places.

I have a big age gap between my kids, so sticking to the same budget is pointless I'd rather aim for same number if items.

They will each have:-
2 gifts from Grandparents
5 from Aunties and Uncles.

I was thinking 5 or 6 things from us / Santa including books, main gift, selection box. Stocking will be a hand full of small things under a fiver.

Half a dozen usually, not including stocking tat which isn't wrapped.

A main present (if wrappable)
A couple of accessories
Maybe a book and or puzzle
Board game of some kind

I try not to go overboard. Big stuff is mostly saved for birthdays.

Pascha · 26/10/2018 09:56

They get one thing each from grandparents, relatives so 4 more presents to open.

SixToEightInchesOfSnow · 26/10/2018 10:01

About 10 from Santa plus stocking.
One from us this year as it’s an expensive MacBook, usually about 3.
1 from paternal grandparents.
1 main and several smaller from maternal grandparents.
4 from aunties and uncles.

LeticiaDejeuner · 26/10/2018 10:04

One each from us, plus probably one each from my mum, dad & stepmum, brother and stepsister... so probably total of 4 or 5 presents each. No tat. Similar scenario at birthdays. I'm of the firm opinion that 'less is more' and it means the stuff they get all gets played with and we don't end up knee deep in unused/multiple duplicates (we have 4 kids, oldest is nearly 7).

NameChanger22 · 26/10/2018 10:08

I don't give her anything much during the year. I wrap nearly everything I buy up for Christmas or her birthday. I usually get her about 10 books, 5 pens, craft items etc, 5 items of clothing, 5 things for her room, 2 cuddly toys, 2 games and one big present. So about 30 things in total. She usually gets about 10 presents from friends.

I don't spend much, I've only ever once bought her an expensive gadget and I don't have many other people to buy for.

BiddyPop · 26/10/2018 10:14

There are lots of extended family, who sometimes combine, sometimes not. Lots though tend to be opened at family events rather than given to us to go under our tree at home - so it's spread out. Maybe 7-8 overall, between 2 other locations. And there is a general opening of other parcels by others too going on as everyone gives to everyone in both sides of the family.

There is always something under the tree from DH and I for DD - the same as we each give something to the other, and she usually has something for each of us as well.

And in terms of other things, Santa doesn't wrap in our house, but there may be 1 large-ish (one year, a really hard year for us all and we could afford it, she got an Xbox - that was exceptional though) or up to 6 smaller items (last year, it was lots of boat stuff, so about 5 things like a tiller extension, a decent waterbottle and a pouch for it, and a new pair of waterproof boots; and another year she fell in love with inline skates in autumn after DH had already acquired a skateboard so there were 2 decent things that year, which in fairness both got well used), and that might include an item of clothing as well. And her stocking.

bellaste · 26/10/2018 10:20

About 15-20 from Father Christmas.
1 from parents.
About 4 from grandparents.

Tiggles · 26/10/2018 10:30

Stuff in a stocking which may or may not be wrapped
Present from Father Christmas
1 from me & DH
1 from my brother & SIL
1 from other brother & SIL
1 from MIL
If they remember then sometimes
1 from my DM
1 from my DSis

Sometimes they give each other little presents they have made/bought

TheMonkeyMummy · 26/10/2018 10:37

My kids are only allowed to request one special gift from Santa. He leaves them two and a few bits in stockings

This has worked really well for us, as they really consider what they would like as their gift.

TheMonkeyMummy · 26/10/2018 10:42

Plus both sets of grandparents, and two sets of aunts and uncles

TheGhostOfYou · 26/10/2018 10:55

About 10 and a stocking.

It's split up some from us, some from Santa

Curious2468 · 26/10/2018 11:05

5 proper gifts from us, a stocking with anything from 10-15 but not all wrapped and all lowish value. One gift from Santa by the bed but this tends to be lower in value (my daughter wants a soft toy wolf this year)

Aside from us they will get one gift from their great aunt (often something shared or clothes), one or 2 from their aunt and a few bits from their grandparents (though this year they have increased their budget as sil child wants a bike).

So all together around 25 including selection boxes

Stompythedinosaur · 26/10/2018 11:43

About 10 in their stocking, about 20 under the tree and maybe about 5 at other family christmas get togethers over the season.

I know it is too many really, but there are so many lovely things we want to get them. I imagine it will get less as they get older.

We also don't open them all at once, they get spread out over the day.

MarilynsDressOnAVent · 26/10/2018 12:33

Jeez! We really overbuy. Our three kids get about 20-30 from us and Santa each, around 5 each from DPIL, 2 each from DSIL, 1 or 2 more each from DF, 1 each from DSis and 1 each from DM.

So that's 20-30 from us and a further 10-11 from others. Oh, and the neighbours get them presents too.

ziggiestardust · 26/10/2018 12:49

I suppose about 10-15 from family/friends maybe, and at the moment I’ve got about 30 items in the wardrobe waiting.... HOWEVER some of these items are quite small (Nintendo games, tickets etc) or they’re sets of things (ie you can’t have x without y). I also do a stocking with things DS needs; socks, boxers, pens & pencils etc.

We have an only child so it’s my pleasure to go a little bit overboard.

Goldenphoenix · 26/10/2018 13:01

Far too many! They are still little so novelty might wear off but approx 25 each from family and friends and about 10-12 each from us

QueefLatifah · 26/10/2018 13:12

25+ it can differ depending on value, sometimes a lot more. Family bring stuff after so have never counted there’s but probably 1/2 gifts each from 6/7 family members over a few days

Ignoramusgiganticus · 26/10/2018 13:15

About 60 but that included socks and boring stuff like that and also multi packs being split up and disguised.

Ignoramusgiganticus · 26/10/2018 13:16

Oh that was just from us and Santa. They got a lot more from others.

Now they are older it's a lot less, higher value items but still probably 10 - 15 from us.

MyDcAreMarvel · 26/10/2018 13:21

One from each of us, five from Aunts, one from each grandparents, one in the sibling secret Santa ( otherwise there would be 42 gifts!)
Approx 12 in stocking, sweets, packs of knickers, lipbalms etc.
Approx 10-12 in sack eg Pomsie, Polly pocket, our generation doll, lol underwarps.
One from Godparents.

civicxx · 26/10/2018 13:24

One main present from us although last year she got two. Then about another 20 ranging from new colours/notebooks to board games, puzzles, Xbox games etc.

Birthdays we generally do something, go away somewhere for a weekend rather than buy stuff however she always gets a couple of things, this year she got a bike & and two days out

Davloumar · 26/10/2018 13:43

They get around 30 each from Santa including stocking fillers and around 20 each from family and friends.

needsanewname · 26/10/2018 13:45

DD will only be 5 months this year so won't be getting a lot from us - maybe 5 or 6 things at the most but there's probably another 6/7 presents from other family members and 2 of those (DGM's) will get her a fair few each. Going forward though I won't be counting what she's getting from others as they aren't there on Xmas morning for her to wake up to from Santa.

Growing up we always had at least 20 presents I'd say, I now don't understand how mum and dad afforded them because we were really on the breadline growing up. Probably catalogues.

DP's on both sides still buy DH and I a lot of presents, although I don't expect it to continue now DD is here.

Troika · 26/10/2018 13:46

Too much!
2 sets of grandparents buy for them
4 sets of aunties/uncles
(Usually one present from each, sometimes a couple from my side)

We get them one or two presents

But then the stockings end up having loads in. They do include stuff like shower gel, toothbrush as well as lots of edible stuff but I think this year they’ll end up having about 35-40 things in each Shock. I was meant to be cutting them back this year as the older two now know, and the youngest is too young to have any expectations but then my eldest asked for make up and I ended up getting loads of the brand she wanted from a sale for about £20 so she had way more than the other two... I have done stuff like separated out a pack of bath toys for the youngest though- so although I only bought one pack she will have 8 things to pull out of her stocking. Also she is obsessed with the magic doll bottles at toddler group so I got her one of those, but it came with a juice beaker and a dummy too so that’s three stocking items. Still obscene though Blush Thsnk goodness Father Christmas doesn’t wrap!

Angelcd · 26/10/2018 13:50
