Christmas Eve boxes, what’s going in yours.....

sophisticatedsarcasm · 25/10/2018 22:21

Decided this year I would jump on the Christmas Eve box bandwagon. Had it fairly planned out. I plan to put in for DS10 & DD6
A pair of xmassy pjs
A lush bath bomb each
A Christmas colouring book for DD / not sure for DS yet as he’s not in to that.
A pack of chocolate coins each
A roblox blind box for DS and a L.O.L lil sister doll for DD
A packet of hot chocolate powder for DS and either a milk straw or milkshake for Dd (she don’t like hot chocolate)

I’ve chosen not to put a movie in as I literally own all the Christmas movies already.

There really only is one Christmas film. Elf.

Ditch the Lush though (bad people).
Maybe a card game?

bumblebee39 · 25/10/2018 22:24

DD aged 5
Pyjamas
Hot chocolate, mini marshmallows and mug
Bag of popcorn
Candy canes
Card showing film I've downloaded (usually do a DVD but they only get watched once)
A book
A cuddly
Reindeer food aka bird seed

DD approx 18months
Pyjamas
Bag of chocolate buttons (will have with usual milk)
Bag of skips or similar melts crisps
A book
A cuddly
Reindeer food aka bird seed

Moominfan · 25/10/2018 22:25

Nothing cause I'm miserable sod that's hates all the excess and commercialism. Don't get me started on the Coca Cola truck it's insidious

formerbabe · 25/10/2018 22:27

I tried Xmas eve boxes one year...My dc were distinctly underwhelmed by them so not going to bother this year!

PodgeBod · 26/10/2018 07:41

My 2&3 year olds will get:
PJs
Hot chocolate (in a cone that looks like Rudolph)
Bath foam
Lush glittery bath bomb (not sure what's wrong with Lush?)
A craft set, like paint your own baubles
A baking set so they can make something to put out for Santa

We have Sky movies so I don't buy DVDs.

Nicpem1982 · 26/10/2018 07:47

Dd 4

Fluffy pjs
Reindeer food
Santa plate
Santa key
Bed time book
Orchard game
Craft activity
Movie snack box

First time im doing snack box but ive got some white happy meal type boxes that im going to draw a snowman face on with sharpies and fill with pop corn, drink carton and a few sweets

PoxAlert · 26/10/2018 07:51

Christmas Eve is arguably my favourite day of the year.

But.

Don't see the point of the boxes.

They get enough on the 25th and we have all the Christmas DVDs we'd want so unless I'm buying another copy of Elf or Muppets Christmas Carol then we'd end up watching a less than favourite film.

We always make reindeer food from stuff we've already got. And new Christmas PJs earlier in the month anyway.

It's a wonderful, exciting, family day. But not one about getting new crap. That's for the day after.

EmpressJewel · 26/10/2018 08:23

Mine get:

Pjs
Hot chocolate in a snowman cup
Santa plate, for Santa's mince pie
Santa key
Chocolate Santa/coins
New toothbrush

Their pjs and toothbrushes are stuff I would need to buy anyway, a relative gives me the hot chocolate and the plate and key gets used every year.

Cutesbabasmummy · 26/10/2018 09:20

Christmas eve plate, key for Father Christmas for the back door, new Christmas Book, gingerbread man/reindeer, Christmas Activity book, new decoration for the tree and a DVD. Maybe a hot chocolate cone if I can find one!

SixToEightInchesOfSnow · 26/10/2018 09:27

Just PJs, a book and sweets or chocolate.
This year it’s Harry Potter PJs, Quidditch Through The Ages and a chocolate frog.
I definitely don’t want to be giving him toys one day before the big event.

nordicwannabe · 26/10/2018 09:29

planning to do 1st December box this year:

  • advent calendar
  • new pjs
  • Christmas craft kits, and Christmas cookie cutters and boiled sweets (to make window cookies)
  • gingerbread house
  • writing paper and pen to write letter to Santa
  • all our christmas/winter books

It's mainly so that I remember to use them! But also hope it will get DD excited, and she can choose which activities we do when.

OutComeTheWolves · 26/10/2018 09:31

I'd never bothered with them but a couple of years ago my mil started making them for all all the grandkids and hers are fab.

She doesn't really put any sweets in (coz they'll be hyped enough on Christmas Eve). She just puts in Christmas pjs and reindeer dust then everything else is stuff to keep them amused- colouring in, join the dots, cross words, a book etc.

Cutesbabasmummy · 26/10/2018 10:26

Oh plus a bath bomb!

BlueOooChristmas · 26/10/2018 11:54

Our Elf goes home the night before Christmas Eve and leaves a box for both of the girls to say thank you for letting him stay.

Each box contains PJs, a dressing gown, a Christmas cup, hot chocolate, a DVD and a book.

We watch the films through the day. Then after their evening bath they get their PJs and dressing gowns on and we make hot chocolate in their new cups while ripping apart the ginger bread house that Daddy built with them a few days earlier.

The PJs and gowns aren't Christmas themed and will continue to be worn throughout the year until they outgrow them.

I have no doubt we will continue this tradition long after they stop believing in Elves and Santa, it's just such a lovely way to build up to Christmas.

ziggiestardust · 26/10/2018 12:51

We do a big family hamper with Christmas pyjamas and bed socks/slippers for the everyone including adults, a Christmas DVD, popcorn/snacks, some hot chocolate sachets and bath bombs.

It’s more of a thing for everyone which DS ‘discovers’.

Goldenphoenix · 26/10/2018 12:58

We are doing a 1st December box instead, it will contain:

  • all the Christmas films we already own
  • all the Christmas books we already own
  • new pj's (not Xmas ones so they'll be used all year round)
  • Christmas crafts
  • Hot chocs
  • Christmas mugs
  • Popcorn/sweet treats
  • Lush bubble bar
  • advent calendars

Will put their personalised Christmas bed linen on the same day

BiddyPop · 26/10/2018 13:00

Ours only comes out at bedtime so we don't need the movie etc.

But it doesn't all need to be new things.

New will be:
PJs for all
Hot chocolate
A Christmas beer for DH
Festive bath bombs for DD and I (and maybe a suitably manly seasonal shower gel for DH)

Annual favourites are:
DD's stocking
Family copy of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" (bedtime story, still demanded despite the fact she's almost a teenager!)
Plastic plate and glass with Santa pattern for milk and cookies and carrot
Snowman covered hot water bottle

Book only comes out for 24th annually.
Plate, glass and HWB come out earlier, but go into the box on 24th as part of the family tradition of setting up and getting organized.

PJs are sometimes Christmas themed, often not though. Regardless, they'll be worn all winter.

Cookies are baked in the afternoon for the plate.

DD knows that it's me who does the CEH though, so we have no worries about the "magic" by using things we already have. Even when we still thought she did believe in other things. (Officially, she still does, but we know that she knows that we know that she knows its not real - but DH keeps spouting the "If you don't believe, you won't receive" line so she has not officially admitted that she knows......)

QueefLatifah · 26/10/2018 13:02

Can I remind everyone not to buy reindeer food with glitter or add glitter to anything like that before throwing out for the reindeer as it kills the birds. Thank you

As you were

Angelcd · 26/10/2018 14:01

2/3 Board games to play xmas eve
Mickey & Minnie( disney store xmas ones we collect them).
Slippers
Xmas socks
Colouring book and pens
A xmas tree decoration( for our baby in heaven)
A few blind bag toys
(No pjs as my kids just like the packs at next)x

NoWordForFluffy · 26/10/2018 15:00

In ours it's:

  • Santa plate (used every year);
  • Personalised sacks (ditto);
  • Stockings (ditto);
  • The Night Before Christmas book (ditto); and
  • Christmas pyjamas which are the only new thing and will be worn until no longer fitting!

I wouldn't do the film / sweets / hot chocolate as a) it's bedtime and b) DS wouldn't be bothered about two of those anyway. Xmas Grin

sydenhamhiller · 26/10/2018 15:13

We’ve been doing this a few years: the only new thing they get (kids are 14,12 and 6) are Boden pjs. Not xmas themed, so worn all year. Hot choc, marshmallows, our old Xmas picture books, and a game.

I do a treasure hunt of riddles through the house they have to follow to get to the box, and it’s one of their favourite things. It doesn’t have to be commercialised.

Lovemusic33 · 26/10/2018 18:55

We are not doing them this year, we have done them in the pass but the dd’s we’re not too bothered about them. Might just do new pj’s and go out somewhere nice instead or wasting my money on bits and bobs for the box.

hiddeneverything · 26/10/2018 19:37

Nothing. The whole concept is ridiculous IMO

ShowOfHands · 26/10/2018 19:49
Hermagsjesty · 26/10/2018 19:53

We just do PJs and a Xmas inspired book each.
