What do you all have to eat on Christmas Eve? Don't think I want to do a big meal to keep us all looking forward to Christmas dinner.
I'm thinking maybe a little buffet but would like some extra special things 🙂 will be me, DH, DSD6 and DD8months.

Before kids it was always KFC now we have kids we have Christmas dinner. So much nicer and easier.

lastnamefirstfirstnamelast · 19/10/2018 12:54

its our turn to have all our kids this year as we take it in turns with our exes etc each year . so i'll put on a mini banquet of food from around the world (dss pretty much only eats pizza so italy always in is in there)

MsNowtyBach · 19/10/2018 12:57

Glazed Ham or Roast Beef with Jacket potatoes and salad.

The remainder of the meat is eaten on Boxing Day with the cold turkey, rest of the cheese, bread and salads.

We always do a little buffet and we love it! We pre-order loads of bits from M&S every year (their Christmas desserts are heavenly) and they do some really nice stuff to make up a Christmas Eve buffet

glitterballbag · 19/10/2018 13:24

We have started our own tradition of having a cheese fondue on Christmas Eve- it just feels so wintery and cosy.

TheKitchenWitch · 19/10/2018 13:34

glitterballbag we do a cheese fondue too! Every year! We dip all sorts into it though, not just the traditional bread. Lightly steamed cauliflower and broccoli florets are very popular, but cherry tomatoes also go down well.

cropcirclesinthefields · 19/10/2018 13:39

We've always gone to the chip shop or Chinese, mum was clear she wasn't cooking the night before doing Christmas dinner.

AmazingGrace16 · 19/10/2018 14:00

My husband makes an amazing macaroni cheese. Will have that about 5pm with the kids.
About 10pm will have a supper for dh and I whilst we open the champagne and wrap final presents.
Supper will be cold meats, cheese board, olives etc.

AllHallowsQueen · 19/10/2018 14:55

We always have party food. Love the little Christmas tree shaped vol au vents and coquille st Jacques they do at Waitrose & M&S.

ivykaty44 · 19/10/2018 15:01

Sharing boards are posh miniature smorgasbords 😂

sparklepops123 · 19/10/2018 17:02

Chinese

OliviaStabler · 19/10/2018 17:05

Salad, salmon mousse or similar and white crusty bread with lots of wine 🍷

thismeansnothing · 19/10/2018 17:08

I tend to roast a ham on Xmas Eve. Then have it out with crusty bread, chutney, salad and crisps and people can help themselves. It's easy to make and we often have people bobbing in to drop pressies for DD and people seeing DH for his birthday so they can help themselves too.

TinselKitten · 19/10/2018 17:13

Meal at Pizza Express followed by cinema and then an obscene coffee/hot chocolate thing with whipped cream and every extra imaginable from Starbucks.

MsSquiz · 19/10/2018 17:15

We either have a M&S party food selection or a gammon joint cooked in coke with roasties

jmh740 · 19/10/2018 17:21

We have Chinese takeaway

TroysMammy · 19/10/2018 17:22

Party food, things on sticks and jelly and blancmange and cake. Christmas Eve is my DP's birthday and we have a little party mainly for our niece's benefit.

Before I was with my DP I used to make a venison and red pepper casserole, served with mashed potato and sprouts. You can never have too many sprouts.

SecretWitch · 19/10/2018 17:23

We will be having a fry up this year. My youngest dd gets excited about eating breakfast for dinner in her new pyjamas. Our plan is to eat about 6pm. I will put out cheese and other bits around 9pm for my older children who will be working until 8pm.

CaseStudyResearch · 19/10/2018 17:41

We normally all go out for Thai food

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 19/10/2018 17:45

We have a picnic type thing before we go to the Christingle service and then snack on the leftovers when we come back. I cook on Christmas day and then on Boxing day, we go to the Pils for another "Christmas" dinner as dh's eldest sister always goes to her in-laws on Christmas day so we need something lighter on Christmas Eve.

I like spreading a christmas table cloth next to the christmas tree and eating on the floor but my dm and pils aren't so keen. Dc1 loves it though.

Crusty bread, butter, selection of cold meats, olives, pate, prawns, smoked salmon, hard boiled eggs, a pasta salad, couple of different cheeses plus a small selection of party food.

GrumpyOldMare · 19/10/2018 17:48

We have whatever is in the freezer, just a normal tea.

TheRollingCrone · 19/10/2018 17:53

Huge Greek salad, tatziki, hummus, etc and cold beer.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/10/2018 18:22

We always have :
fish fingers for DS, Quorn fish fingers or Vegetable Grill for DD,DH and me
Triple cooked chips
Some dips

I make a trifle for DH and the DC have ice-cream

We have a late buffet - french bread, cheese (maybe a baked camenbert,) salad, crisps, fresh salsa.

Mince pies and cake , chocolate crispie cakes

Jenni2legs · 19/10/2018 18:29

MashNpeas · 19/10/2018 18:35
