Stocking fillers for adult DC

Thighofrelief · 30/09/2018 22:10

My boys get more and more difficult to buy for the older they get, 19 and 28 this year. Obviously the main present is cash but I want to fill a stocking each too. Last year I went overboard on the smellies and they were polite but I overheard them say "mum thinks we stink" (I do). So tricky, any ideas?

Also a small gift to give each of my parents at the table - not more than £20 each. They are in their 80s and very difficult to buy for!

And......I have one more problem. I don't drink but do like sherry trifle but I don't know anything about sherry or what type goes in trifle and I only want a small bottle, just enough for the trifle. Can anyone educate me please?

Any ideas please?

Cards against humanity or expansion if they have them
Designer underpants
Pen knife
Vouchers for whichever gaming platform they use
Money clip
Nice keyring

What do they like to do?

Parents- a Bettys cake in a tin.
What do they like- I gave an 80 year old a Donald Trump mask last year which caused a lot of amusement and has apparently been well used.

That must be a Truely huge stocking!

TruelyTruelyScrumptious · 30/09/2018 23:10

That must be a Truely huge stocking!

They are sacks that were and when they were babies , they are enormous, everything comes in the sack. I would guess they are about 160cms by 120 cms

@Reaa

What? For real? Glow in the dark johnnies?!

Perhaps secretly hoping to become a granny as they look novelty rather than functional.

WoahBodyforrrrm · 30/09/2018 23:19

How’s about a wallet ninja? I got a nice one in Poundland the other day.

TruelyTruelyScrumptious · 30/09/2018 23:22

bottle opener

Thighofrelief · 30/09/2018 23:38

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, it's tough when they are your kids who are not kids at all! I think they would laugh at the glow in the dark johnnies - but my 86 year old Dad would even more so that's for him! Ye gads.

I am already a grannyGrin and no they not just a novelty, they came as part of an assortment pack from Durex.

Reaa · 30/09/2018 23:49

It was not Durex, they were ONE condoms.

If your dad has that kind of humour, would a pair of socks with the words "if you can read this" "bring me a beer" printed on the bottom of them be any good?

IdahoJones · 01/10/2018 00:00

Earphones. Always earphones.

AdaColeman · 01/10/2018 00:14

Sherry for the trifle, the usual cooking one is
Harvey's Bristol Cream, but it's about £10 a bottle, so an alternative would be Sainsbury's Oloroso at about £8, which you could also use as an aperitif.
You don't often see miniatures of Sherry, but around Christmas in supermarkets you can get a range of miniature brandy, liqueurs like amaretto, or fruit gin like sloe all of which would work in trifle. They would be about £3 or £4 each.

Thighofrelief · 01/10/2018 00:26

AdaColeman - ah thanks, I could use a miniature brandy in a trifle do you think?

IdahoJones - of course, earphones!

Funny knickers, socks, lounging clothes.

I got one of them a personalised bottle opener one year and the other was so secretly jealous. So the next year I got it for the other one, by which time the first one had lost his and was secretly jealous!

Dad would laugh at the johnnies - I got him a silver thong one year. He was only about 75 then.

Yes that would work well in a trifle. Do you light your Christmas pudding? Brandy would work for that too, maybe you need a quarter bottle? Brandy will keep better than sherry if you don't use it all at one time.

unfortunateevents · 01/10/2018 15:31

In the past I have sometimes asked my neighbours for a glass of sherry to use in trifle! We all seem to have it for trifle or elderly rellies but everyone actually hates it themselves so someone usually has a bottle knocking around that they really don't want!
