Stocking fillers for adult DC

My boys get more and more difficult to buy for the older they get, 19 and 28 this year. Obviously the main present is cash but I want to fill a stocking each too. Last year I went overboard on the smellies and they were polite but I overheard them say "mum thinks we stink" (I do). So tricky, any ideas?

Also a small gift to give each of my parents at the table - not more than £20 each. They are in their 80s and very difficult to buy for!

And......I have one more problem. I don't drink but do like sherry trifle but I don't know anything about sherry or what type goes in trifle and I only want a small bottle, just enough for the trifle. Can anyone educate me please?

Any ideas please?

My sons are 37 and 34. I always get them things like:

a bottle (one likes Jack Daniels, the other Port)
socks
slippers
ties (they work in offices)
books
chocolates
hair/beard grooming products
aftershave
shower gel/deodorants
luxury biscuits

OP the cream sherry at Lidl or Aldi is very similar to Harvey's and would be perfect for the trifle, it's around £5 per bottle

My DM has had great success after a careful look at our kitchen...one year a butter dish, another a serving fork etc. She’s not one to judge so I just view it as wildly helpful.

I'd get:
An LED torch or maglite
some really nice food they may not buy themselves (eg fresh coffee from a specialist shop or nut butters - stuff you know they like and will use
a nice mug, beer glass or shot glass, depending on their drinking habits
an alcohol miniature if they drink
warm gloves - again specific to what they do. DS1 likes mechanic's gloves, DS2 prefers ski gloves
a book - anything from a novel, biography or non-fiction in a subject they love to a silly book of jokes or puzzles
something to wear - cosy Primark PJs, bamboo socks. a silk tie - again depends on what they like
hair products? wax or putty, posh shampoo or stuff for beards if they have beards
a good quality reusable sports water bottle or takeout coffee mug, or flask - again, depending on what their work and weekend habits are
new washbag to put in all the smellies they've not used up from last year's stocking Grin

Thanks for all the wonderful ideas everyone, it's very much appreciated.

I was reminded yesterday that they are still working through their smellies from last year, i really did go bonkers!

I think speciality foods and lounging gear are great ideas. Who doesn't love to lay around and eat at Christmas 🎅🏽

Phone chargers, my DS always wrecks/loses his

He keeps whittering on about "Below The Belt" so I'm going to buy some for the little ratbag (he'll be 19 by Christmas)

I need to get him a few guitar plectrums with my photo on them Xmas Grin

Nando or Pizza pre-paid card (he doesn't drink coffee so Costa won't get used)

Not sure if it's been mentioned but DS1 loved a beanie with headphone bits that go over the ear last year.

Sophiesdog11 · 07/10/2018 08:30

My DS is almost 21 (DD 18) - I always buy them both new toothbrush and toothpaste, as well as shower gel, Lynx etc, socks, sweets, chocs, some alcohol.

DS got a couple of kitchen items last year (away at uni, now on a placement year), plus a sewing kit, after letting it slip that his female housemate sewed a button on for him 'as I haven't got any sewing items'. I soon sorted that out!!!!!!

They both get at least one gift card or restaurant card

I must say DD is much easier - I could fill numerous stockings for her - although I know she was stockpiling smellies, but I think they might have run down by now.

We are going NY at end of Nov this year, so am hoping I may be able to pick some bits up there that they like (even if they are not total surprises).
