Ideas of what to put in a Christmas Eve box? Never done one before and would love to start :)

OP posts:
DirtyCurtains1 · 15/09/2018 15:51

New pjs
Socks
Bedtime story book (I always get a Christmas themed one)
Hot chocolate and a mug
Some sweets/chocolate (usually Christmas choccie)
A little toy each (lip gloss for the 11 year old)

:-)

DirtyCurtains1 · 15/09/2018 15:53

Oh and a pack of reindeer food each!!

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 15:54

PJs, popcorn and a DVD, hot chocolate, reindeer food/Santa’s treats and the worn, old copy of “‘‘twas the night before Christmas” that’s older than I am Grin

sleepismysuperpower1 · 15/09/2018 16:08

a pack of reindeer food (oats, glitter and grated carrot)

a personalised cookie with 'one sleep to go, name'

christmas pjs

christmas hair bow (girl) christmas socks (boy)

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 16:09

That cookie is brilliant! Do you mind if I nick your idea sleep?

DirtyCurtains1 · 15/09/2018 16:21

sleepismysuperpower1 · 15/09/2018 16:23

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 16:24

sleepismysuperpower1 thanks, it’s a brilliant idea! I’m sure they will Smile

sleepismysuperpower1 · 15/09/2018 16:28

Grin im so pleased i could help x

Peachypips · 15/09/2018 16:31

Our boys call it 'the first present of Christmas' and they love it! It differs slightly every year. This year they will have dressing gowns (from primark!) as their PJs from last year are still good, one of the Harry Potter films, slippers and something to eat. This sounds a lot but it will all be massively on the cheap. I am also making them some fabric Christmas stockings to put out.

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 16:33

sleepismysuperpower1 I do love Christmas Eve! Christmas Day is always a bit frantic, trying to organise everything and keep everyone happy so Christmas Eve is just for us and the kids and we really love making it magic for them. I suspect this will be the last year DS1 believes, so I really want to make it special.

He’s 11 and at high school (special school) so I’ve a horrible feeling it’s coming Sad

sleepismysuperpower1 · 15/09/2018 16:52

oh no! sorry to hear it may be the last year for DS1. however, my DD loves being in on the secret, and she really puts on a good show of believing for her younger sisters. have you done an elf on the shelf before? might be fun to make this christmas special? also, what are you doing for advent calendars? we have wooden ones that i fill with a different treat for each day, along with a clue of where to find the elf.

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 16:55

They’re terrified of Elf on the Shelf, no idea why!

That’s a good idea about getting him in on it when it happens, he’s 6 years older than DD and 7 older than DS2! I’m praying I get one more year out of it though Smile

Aye we’ve got those, I bought them in a sale years ago and they’re still going.

We write wee notes about our wishes for the next year and put them in a box for next year too, that always goes down well. Especially reading last years! DP still hasn’t won the Euromillions Grin although we did manage to get season tickets this year so that’s one ticked off.

We make paper chains and mince pies and make a den for them all to sleep in on Christmas Eve too, with sleeping bags and torches Grin

sleepismysuperpower1 · 15/09/2018 17:01

surprisingly, mine were terrified too! i didn't get the official elf, which was the one they were scared off. we got one similar to this: www.etsy.com/uk/listing/472229111/crochet-christmas-elf?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=christmas%20elf&ref=sr_gallery-1-44&organic_search_click=1and we didnt do the whole nonsense about her watching for when you are naughty. that would have just scared them all over again!

LaChatte · 15/09/2018 17:06

We have a 1st of December box instead, containing the usual PJs, slippers and books, plus advent calendar, elf (ours is a nice one, not scary at all), hot chocolate spoon thingy, and bath bombs.

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 17:26

Ah that one is cute, it’s the “usual” one they’re bloody terrified of. Can’t blame them really, he’s a creepy looking wee fecker Grin I’ll try one like that, because I love the whole idea of keeping the magic going but aye, I wouldn’t have them thinking he was watching! That would creep me out, never mind them!

sleepismysuperpower1 · 15/09/2018 17:29

have fun! feel free to PM me to discuss ideas of where to hide it, its difficult to come up with 23 new ideas!

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 17:32

sleepismysuperpower1 I’ll bring up the idea when they get back from swimming and if they’re up for it I definitely will!

I love that MN is a place where I’m allowed to get excited about Christmas early Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/09/2018 17:41

We do Dec 1st boxes now (teenagers so I don't need to get them off to sleep on Christmas Eve Xmas Grin )

The Cookie looks great , I could get their names rather than number of sleeps.

I buy personalised Nutella for DD (used to be able to buy a jar and send off the code online but last year they were available in Debenhams )

There was a brilliant cookie recipe online (I think Martha Stewart) the most delicious chewy cookies , they could be mixed up and baked when they're in bed, then iced and popped in a clear bag?

RaisinRainbow · 15/09/2018 17:45

Lovely ideas but we won't be doing this in our household, feeling that sufficient gifts are exchanged on the day itself.
Without wishing to sound pious we hold to Advent as a Holy season, as well as the joyful run-up to a midwinter celebration. As a family we like to reflect on the Holy birth and its meaning for us on Christmas eve, sans telly etc, so it is the day of religious significance for us, more than the 25th, which we treat as a celebration family day, if that makes sense.

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 17:50

My family are very religious so that does make sense.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/09/2018 17:57

Everyone does what they see fit Raisin

My family are also very religious, but my DMum didn't really do Christmas not because of faith , but because she CBA with the cooking and decorating Xmas Hmm

When my DS was born we did our new Christmas Traditions which evolved over the years and my DParents both thoroughly enjoyed the food and decorations etc.

We don't do much in the way of presents ourselves. No adults have presents , but if I see something I like , I'll order it,

Apart from DS , we're a vegetarian household (though Dbro, DSiL and Dparents all eat meat which I cook if they visit)

I think its quite sad with the annual slaughter and the hacking down of trees but each to their own .

MaNeOi · 15/09/2018 18:06

We do the general stuff, socks, pyjamas some kind of food usually chocolate - a Christmas film we watch on Christmas eve and usually a 'morning present' this is something the kids can play with before the designated time (usually set at 8am and broken at 5am!).

We also have Christmas helpers (like the elf but we have four one for each child) - that Santa had asked them to look after and make sure they are well behaved!
