Ds just gets PJs, a book and some sweets. This year it’s Harry Potter PJs, Quidditch Through the Ages and a chocolate frog. There’s definitely a theme to this year’s Christmas...

My DM is a vicar, we literally live in a vicarage, we still have a Christmas Eve Box, and all the tat and shite to go with Christmas. It's not an either/or scenario in our house Grin

DS will be just 2 at Christmas.

Twas the night before Christmas book
Nativity book.
New pyjamas (tradition in out family for at least 30 years)
A Father Christmas bath squidgee/pouffe
A Christmas themed bath bomb.
A father Christmas rubber duck.
A jazzy cup for his milk.
Plate for leaving FC and Rudolph treats.
Stocking.
Probably a kinder egg or something.
Reindeer food (birdseed and sugar sprinkles)

I might pick some other bits up if I see anything interesting I think he might like. I'll put it out in the morning to wake up to and open as the afternoon is full with the Nativity service. I love watching other people's Christmas Eve Box packing on YouTube.

We have a Christmas bag that comes out on the 1st December with advent calendars ans the Christmas books and DVDs. Other than advent calendars and maybe a book or DVD, nothing new is bought now, and I like to have all of December for the books and DVDs.

I'm a vicar and do a Christmas eve box.
Pj's and books for the boys to read whilst I'm busy Grin.
My Christmas is busy with crib services and midnight mass on Christmas eve and services on Christmas day. Grabbing moments to exchange a gift and time to enjoy it together is important!

Christmas Eve box here contains

  • Pjs,
  • hot chocolate,
  • Baileys,
  • Magic reindeer food
  • Santa's magic key as we don't have chimneys here in the Caribbean...
  • shit tons of chocolate

I bloody love Christmas!!

2 dd here, 4 and 6. We do it on 1st December and it includes the stuff we use every Year, e.g. Xmas books, cups, stockings and just a couple of new things:

Pyjamas
Xmas dress (They don't wear jumpers)
Advent calendar probably playmobil
Festive DVD and maybe book
Maybe small Xmas things like chocolate or a decoration if we need new ones

It signals the first day we get the Xmas stuff out!

DS is 2.5 and will have The Snowman DVD and The Night Before Christmas (both reused from last year), a new pair of PJs, a new bath toy, reindeer food and some chocolate coins. Basically stuff which will keep him occupied Christmas Eve evening while DH and I get stuff done and things that will make bedtime a bit easier :)

Last year was the first year I did Christmas eve boxes. The dc got christmas pjs, chocolate and teddy (the kinder ones) and a Christmas themed book (that's not my santa, 10 little Christmas elves and the Christmasaurs).

This year will be pjs, book and treat.

ManicLoki · 16/09/2018 19:14

Pj's
Christmas DVD
Hot chocolate
Something nice to eat, maybe stollen or marshmallows to toast over a tea light.

We have a set budget for Christmas, it all comes out of that. No extra conspicuous consumption, just stretching out the fun.

Chrisinthemorning · 16/09/2018 19:56

1st December box: advent calendar (Playmobil this year), PJs, book- this year will be The Girl who saved Christmas by Matt Haig. Chocolate tree ornaments.

goose1964 · 16/09/2018 20:03

I never did boxes but used to get mine bath bombs

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 16/09/2018 20:17

We do one but it's handed out on the morning of Christmas Eve.

For ds and now dd. Book for Christmas Eve. Pajamas. Children's board game of some sort for everyone to play before Church. Christmas cookie cutter to make Santa's cookies with (last year was a Robin).

For me and dh. Christmas Murder mystery book (me), Adult board game (dh)

For everyone. Hot chocolate, Marshmallows, some sort of chocolate treat. Christmas bath bombs.

We get out our Christmas Eve box after dinner and our family ceremony around lighting the Christmas Candle (a time when we say a family prayer and remember the good and bad times of the previous year, and family members who have died).

Our box is more a signal towards bedtime.
It has the copy of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" which we bought for DD's first Christmas, her stocking, and a few bits that have been in use again since 1st December (her plastic plate and glass, and her snowman-covered hot water bottle).

It also has new PJs for everyone in the family (we all generally need a new pair over the winter so it's nice to do it then - they are not normally Christmas patterned), a Lush festive bath bomb each for DD and I, a posh hot chocolate for everyone (lump of chocolate on a wooden spoon to melt in milk) and a Christmas/Winter beer for DH.

Cookies (baked that afternoon together), a carrot and milk go on/into the plate/glass, and the stocking is laid out.

DD goes for her bath and gets into new PJs.
She comes back down for her bedtime tablets and her hot chocolate, and then I snuggle her in bed with her hot water bottle and read the story - she still wanted it last year at age 12.
