What are the best biscuits to go with cheese?

We're hosting Christmas for the first time and I want to do a brilliant cheeseboard for the end of the meal. But if we are having really nice cheeses I feel like we ought to have really good biscuits to go with them. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Also any recommendations for other things to serve with it - I'm going to have grapes and chutney and I've found little miniatures of quince gin Smile Gin

Not a cracker suggestion but just seen a recipe which made me think of this thread. A recipe for quince vodka. Sounds nice, if you can get hold of some quinces

Carrs biscuit selection box are the nicest IMO.
Brie with honeycomb on fresh bread is amazing.

The crackers with cracked black pepper in from Sainsburys are delicious.

Get that cheese that looks like stilton but more orange.

Miller's Charcoal wafers are gorgeous. They do other varieties, but I haven't tried them.

Second Ethel with the cracked B.P biscuits ...olive crackers from M&S are tha bomb also thin sliced fresh bread is lovely ... with a Cheshire or real Wensleydale (not with cranberries or anything else) equally good with cheddar...also grapes are essential and a black pepper grinder is a nice touch Wink

Carrs water biscuits and Hovis digestives with brie and stilton, accompanied by celery and green grapes.

Longdistance · 12/09/2018 18:59

I do love a digestive and oat cakes. Soft crumbly crackers rather than hard dry crackers.
Brie, Wensleydale, Stilton, mature cheddar.
Also love pickles and chutneys.

The cheese is the hero in any cheeseboard. So just water biscuits

haba · 12/09/2018 19:09

Another vote for Sainsbury's salt and pepper crackers, and their rosemary ones are v good too. Both varieties made without palm oil too, so even better Halo

Waitrose do lovely biscuits for cheese variety box. Also the Swedish crispbreads that come in enormous wheels (like about 15" across) or smaller triangular ones- they're a blue packet with folk art designs, begins with L but I can't remember the brand Blush

haba · 12/09/2018 19:10

And grapes or figs!
And membrillo
And onion marmalade

KnotsInMay · 12/09/2018 19:15

I agree with the Plain Crackers approach. The biscuits shouldn’t upstage or compete with the cheese.

Also what’s with all this pickle and chutney? It’s the end of a Christmas Dinner not a ploughman’s lunch! It will clash horribly with the PORT!

shockedballoon · 12/09/2018 19:29

M&S do a lovely charcol biscuit - rivals the water biscuit in my book! Slight hint of nuttyness but doesn't compete with the cheese and is a little more robust than the water biscuit.

Hippychick78 · 12/09/2018 19:54

Chilli jam is a fantastic cheese addition I've been making it for years and it can be made well in advance. Xx I can provide recipe if desired xx

Teabird · 12/09/2018 21:07

Just been into Home Bargains today and they are doing a box of Thomas Fudges cheese biscuits. Oat & Chive, charcoal, multi seed and wheat & rye. Look delicious and only £2.25.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 12/09/2018 22:22

YY to membrillo - I'm always thrilled to see it on a cheeseboard.

I go a specialist cheese shop and ask them for suggestions. That turns up some beauties and nice local ones as well.

Appygolucky1234 · 13/09/2018 02:21

If you live someone near a proper Coop, they have some black pepper crackers that are yummy!

Rollright cheese on nice bread is lush. Oxford blue is a lovely blue as well.

Blondie1984 · 13/09/2018 03:21

Oooh get some lovely sticky dates

Some of this selection

WhipItGood · 13/09/2018 08:09

One thing I always wish I’d remember is how much nicer cheese tastes if it’s not straight from the fridge.

Give it a chance to breathe a bit before you serve it and the flavours are better.

Loopytiles · 13/09/2018 11:55

OP is not planning a traditional roast. Love the idea of a main meal that leaves room for amazing cheeses!

These are incredible. M&S do something similar in their gluten free range.

Quangot · 13/09/2018 12:20

Digestives every time. I don't know why any other "biscuits for cheese" exist Grin

WellTidy · 14/09/2018 12:10

I batch cook Lorraine Pascale’s Asian chilli jam every autumn. It is fab with cheese. We love it, we also have it with Chinese food, Indian food, pate ...
