Stocking Up For Christmas - Food & Drinks Bargains/Offers

I wanted to start a thread to share/keep track of food and drink bargains, to start stocking up for Christmas.

Maybe it is just me, but once the children return to school I tend to start watching out for good offers on long shelf life foods for Christmas to spread the cost and grab a few bargains.

To start off, Tesco have boxes of Matchmakers for 75p each at the moment (Orange, Mint, Caramel and Gingerbread). www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/promotions/A32487590. Valid until 11th September.

Has anyone else spotted any good offers on any Christmas necessities?

Following this.
I have nothing to add except my local co op and Tesco have started stocking the tubs of sweets.

Bargain, Asda hoisin duck crisps 85p currently dated 8/12 best before. One of the best tasting crisps I've had in a long time

Governoress86 · 07/09/2018 10:24

Nothing to add yet, but also watching with interest. ☺️

Bullnoway · 07/09/2018 10:25

Not an offer, but Iceland spring rolls (£1 for 12) are delicious!

I8toys · 07/09/2018 10:54

Marks had tins of shortbread for £5 and Belgian chocolates for half price

LoudBatPerson · 07/09/2018 16:04

Oooooo I might have to pop to Marks and grab some shortbread chocolates.

I really need to do this but never have enough money for extras!!
A few bits a week though would make a huge difference come Christmas. What sort of things should I look out for?

TulipsInBloom1 · 07/09/2018 19:14

Marking my place as we are due to move imminently so Ive not bought a single thing for any upcoming birthdays or christmas.

Miladymilord · 07/09/2018 19:15

A chrismassy placemark!

LoudBatPerson · 07/09/2018 19:20

Sandysmum- I always have a list of the cupboard essentials and keep a check whenever I am looking around supermarkets/shopping online. Maybe make a list of all the things that you don't want to do without.

I am sure if you post a few bits here people will say if they spot them!

I am currently keeping my eyes open for really good deals on bottles of J2o (as I only let the kids have it ah Christmas), cans of drink and alcohol, sweets and chocolate and good teas/coffee mainly.

Joining! Pringles down to £1.25 in ASDA

We were toying with getting an ASDA savings card to ease the food bill, but have opted for a coffee jar that we throw pound coins and fiver pound notes into. It's working so far!

Morrison's have Edinburgh rhubarb and ginger gin for £16. My favourite festive tipple with prosecco [santa]

LoudBatPerson · 07/09/2018 22:01

I love Rhubarb and finer gin, great spot Simplyput

My local Lidl had their rhubarb and ginger gin and pomegranate and rose gin this morning. I bought it fast, as it runs out quickly. I pretended I bought it for Christmas, so does that count, as gin won’t go off before then?

SimplyPut · 07/09/2018 22:50

Loved their rhubarb but pomegranate and rose sounds amazing. Need to pop to Lidl! Thanks.

Miladymilord · 07/09/2018 22:52

Have you tried it? It says gin liqueur on the front which put me off

madvixen · 07/09/2018 23:02

@SandysMam I plan my Christmas meals well ahead of time and have every ingredient on a spreadsheet. I then buy a couple of non perishable ingredients every week and pop them away in the Christmas cupboard. It really helps to reduce my costs. Tomorrow, I'll be grabbing sponge fingers and custard for my trifle. They will have a nice long date on so they will be fine to hide until needed

LoudBatPerson · 07/09/2018 23:35

I'd be very interested to hear a review of the Lidl versions of the Gins too, so there's an excuse to crack it open already Wink

Great thread, but not sure I have enough room to store much if prebuying for Xmas. Plus unfortunately I can see the teenagers finding my stash and it disappearing!

NoWordForFluffy · 08/09/2018 07:44

We hoard Nectar points for this purpose. At some point next month I'll get my baking ingredients, and start to keep an eye out for good snack prices so I can add those here and there. I'll pay for all of these with Nectar points. I'll do double up for the Christmas booze in November too!

FilthyforFirth · 08/09/2018 08:00

Same here Fluffy. Our Christmas shop is nearly all paid for with store points. I do have a bit more storage now I've moved so might stock up on booze options if I see cheap ones!

I've already snapped up some Matchmakers! Great thread idea :)

twomadefour · 08/09/2018 08:13

J20 is £3 for 6 bottles in Tesco. Only just saw them yesterday and not sure when the deal runs out
