Taken the tree down, anyone else?

Have been itching to take it down for a few days so whilst it was all quiet this morning I jumped at the chance. It will take dd half the day to realise and then she will moan for another half day about it going down but I'm expecting it and not bothered. The whole living room feels bigger and fresher now even though it was only a small tree on one of the side tables Confused

Took tree down on 27th. Took window lights and outside lights down today and everything is back up the loft already!

Chrisinthemorning · 01/01/2018 14:49

Just finished- all down and back in the loft. I love my decorations but once the New Year is here I need a tidy house!

Bookaboo · 01/01/2018 15:00

No, there are 12 days to Christmas.

Agreed. I'll take it down as near to the 6th as convenient. We have a real tree too so want to get the most out of it.
Still another week of school hol too so my DS wouldn't want it down sooner.

There have been so many threads on this.
Can't help feeling that folk are influenced by retailers in when they start and end Christmas.

Helpmeltb · 01/01/2018 15:07

I've taken mine down. Sick of the mess in the house. Decorating kitchen so that's a mess and xmas crap all over living room. Decided taking tree down was a good first step to getting stuff back in order.

My tree didn't go up until the 18th so it's more that I don't like the clutter rather being influenced by retailers tbh. I'd prefer not to have a tree at all if I'm honest but put one up because of the dc, I dream of the day I can stop bothering.

Just doing mine now. I do prefer to leave them up as near to the 6th as is practicable, but for me that's today. I'm back in work tomorrow, DH working from Fri-Sun, and and getting it all back in the loft (large fake-ass tree) is a two-man job.

cushioncovers · 01/01/2018 15:14

Took mine down yesterday

BuzzKillington · 01/01/2018 15:14

Our 2 went this morning.

They both still looked gorgeous (Frazer Firs - lovely), but as soon as they knew the game was up, they shed about a thousand needles on the way out.

Looks all lovely and clean now.

dementedpixie · 01/01/2018 15:23

I'm not religious so the 12 days of Christmas isn't relevant. I take them down when I'm fed up of them. Dh is back to work tomorrow so we got rid of everything today

NoWordForFluffy · 01/01/2018 15:36

I'm surprised that you've read all of the threads and that's the conclusion you've come to. Almost everyone had reasons other than what the retailers dictate in relation to Christmas, many relating to wanting it down before returning to work / school / finding a home for new toys.

deplorabelle · 01/01/2018 15:37

I AM religious but usually take the tree down on New Year's Day. This year it's staying up because we've been visiting a lot and aren't ready to say goodbye to it yet.

However I am really sick of churchy people whining on about a) other people putting their decorations up early and/or b) other people taking the decorations down too soon. We get a lot of pressure in our church to celebrate all through the 12 days but not a moment before. I feel it's pointlessly counter-cultural to be a killjoy about Christmas lights in December or whinge at people for clearing up Christmas when they have to go back to work. (And I'm someone who loves Advent) It's not loving thy neighbour FFS it's a tree

Ahhh that was possibly venting unnecessarily on your thread but I feel better.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 01/01/2018 15:46

I’m not religious but ours stays up till 12th night, it is so beautiful that I want to keep it up as long as I can. The room always looks so bare and empty when it comes down.

elQuintoConyo · 01/01/2018 15:47

I have put away a few bits, like the ornaments and the LED tealights, but the tree will be up until 7th.

5Th/6th January are huge here (Spain) so everything is still very festive. Wecare having in-laws for lunch/dinner on 6th, then the tree etc will come down on the 7th.

Schools start back the following Monday. I like the longer drawn out Christmas season.

happymummy12345 · 01/01/2018 15:48

I never take ours down until January 6th. And it always goes up the first weekend in December. I love it. In gutted when we have to take it down.

thegoodnameshadgone · 01/01/2018 15:51

Took mine down the day after Boxing Day. We put it up on the first weekend of December. Living room now looks huge

portico · 01/01/2018 16:00

I will probably take the tree down, too. Shame really, I love Christmas and the build up. Just hate Boxing Day and beyond. Back to work tomorrow. Roll on Februay and then the whole year flies by, I feel January is just one long dull ‘Monday Morning’.

Sorry, for being so maudlin.

StreyyTV · 01/01/2018 17:00

Tomorrow for me. Everyone back at work on the 3rd and kids back to school, so it seems right to draw a line under it all on the 2nd.

I love Christmas and I love our tree but waiting for twelfth night just feels like I'm dragging it out. Once I'm back in the routine on Wednesday and staring 2018 in the face I'll definitely be drained of anything festive and I won't appreciate coming back to all the decorations still up.

Roll on Februay and then the whole year flies by, I feel January is just one long dull ‘Monday Morning’.

Definitely agree with this too though. Which is why I want the decs down. The faster I forget about Christmas the sooner it seems to come round again. With birthdays, anniversary, Easter, summer hols etc. it just feels like I'm pinballing from one thing to the next then suddenly it's September and I'm thinking about presents again.

BuzzKillington · 01/01/2018 18:23

Our friends have been good enough to through a couple of parties this Jan and dh has booked us a swanky weekend away.

I wandered around the garden today and saw some green shoots emerging from bulbs.

I am looking forward to this month.

TheRebelHedgehog · 02/01/2018 23:44

Will come down on the 12th day as per tradition dictates; Not a day earlier, not a day later.

user9217 · 03/01/2018 16:18

Just de-Christmassed my whole Flat while DS is asleep. Took me a total of 14 minutes 😂😂

Laiste · 03/01/2018 17:03

I'm usually a 12th night'er but took our tiny token tree down last week!

We're in strange and unusual living conditions at the moment, my lovely 8 foot tree and all our usual dec's are in storage and i haven't felt xmasy at all this year :( Bah humbug.

Next year i will be a raving xmas godess! (hopefully)

AfterSchoolWorry · 03/01/2018 17:06

I took it all down yesterday, packed off for another year. Good riddance!!!

Cleaned the house, new calendars up. All Christmas food GONE! Cleaned fridge, fresh shopping!!!

Ah bliss, the best part of Christmas!!! THE END!!!

OtterInDisgrace · 03/01/2018 17:08

I never take mine down until the 6th. It always feels so bare and depressing after.

TheRebelHedgehog · 03/01/2018 18:32

Agreed. I detest January.

80sMum · 03/01/2018 18:39

Mine is still up! I enjoy the period after Christmas and new year, when life returns to normal, everything quietens down, the stress of preparing for guests and getting meals organised disappears. During that time, it's nice to just sit and enjoy the prettiness of the tree, the lights, the cards etc.

I always keep the decorations up for the full 12 days of Christmas. I am not keen on putting them up too early. I finished putting our decs up on Christmas eve.
