I will be eternally grateful for any help people can fling my way before I run away and decree no presents will be given Blush

I don't have many people to buy for so it's not completely dire but I just can't get my head around it.

Mum - late 50s and so far I have got a shawl/shrug thing from the woolly hugs craft sale but I need something to go with it. Budget only about 20 quid and doesn't like chocolates or smellies. Have bought gin for recent birthdays/Christmas but not sure I can get something interesting for 20 quid.
Nieces - sisters aged 9 and 6. Have just moved into separate bedrooms and have asked for something for their rooms. Thinking a snuggly blanket and set of fairy lights each? Eldest is quite traditional and younger more quirky but both quite girly so suggestions for fairy lights would be good and where to buy snuggly blankets in a selection of colours so I can try to match/complement decor.

I am happy to order online if it will be here in time. Live close to a largish town and have a couple of free days before Christmas when I can just concentrate on trawling shops. Nearly 30 weeks pregnant though so a more direct idea would probably help than vague meandering Xmas Grin

I go to either John Lewis or Debenhams and stay in there until I have bought all the presents. I prefer John Lewis.

TheWoollybacksWife · 09/12/2017 23:06

Dunelm for "Teddy Bear" blankets in various colours. They do fairy lights too.

Would your mum like a new purse? TK Maxx have lovely ones. Leather gloves? M&S have some funky colours.

Littlelambpeep · 09/12/2017 23:07

Would she like new mugs or towels ?
Garden centre voucher
Purse or glasses case
Something from lakeland
Undies ?

SpinMill · 09/12/2017 23:07

Sorry not really got any suggestions for mum, I tend to go with a book whenever I'm stuck, but wanted to say hi live the idea of blanket and fairy lights. They had some of those mermaid blankets in my local primark which I know would go down a treat with my 6 year old.

SpinMill · 09/12/2017 23:07
  • I love, not hi live

Dotcomgiftshop has nice fairy lights OP. I've bought a few sets for us/as gifts over the years and they're lovely. I think some of them are reduced atm. This link is for a cute hedgehog set. www.dotcomgiftshop.com/honey-hedgehog-party-lights-bs-3-pin-plug?ll=catprod&ctid=5290&pos=22

Would the sisters like bean bags for their rooms? You can buy them online at Argos. They have bean bag chairs too.

elephantoverthehill · 09/12/2017 23:46

Um I think you are quite sorted compared to me. So feel good about yourself.

Victoria1083 · 09/12/2017 23:48

I was in Whittard today and saw lots of beautiful tea and coffee sets in gorgeous tins that my mum would absolutely love.
My 12 year old dd loved the luxury hot chocolate sets - she will for sure be getting one as well.

Victoria1083 · 09/12/2017 23:51

How about bin bags for the girls? We got my dd one from John Lewis a couple of years ago and she loves it.
Alternatively, duvet and pillow sets? Gorgeous fluffy towels?

Victoria1083 · 09/12/2017 23:52

Bin bags? Sorry, meant bean bags of course Blush

confusednorthner · 09/12/2017 23:56

Dd 11 has the dunelm blanket, she and the cat love it. Might have to ask Santa for one for me!

EasterRobin · 09/12/2017 23:58

Does your Mum watch Bake Off? Former winner Nadiya Hussein has a couple of popular cook books out.

Alwaysinmyheart · 09/12/2017 23:58

Home mad gifts, fudge, mulled wine, chutney, Lebkuchen?

Alwaysinmyheart · 10/12/2017 00:00

*made not mad

But actually mad may be more appropriate 😀💜

Alwaysinmyheart · 10/12/2017 00:02

Adult colouring books?
Slippers?
Vouchers?
A good novel?
Alcohol ( always a winner) Xmas Grin

StormyLovesOdd · 10/12/2017 00:14

There's loads of offers on Wowcher - you could get afternoon tea for two for about £20.

rocky4 · 10/12/2017 00:45

What about one of those light up box things for the girls?

bumblingbovine49 · 10/12/2017 00:52

Definitely visit a large store like John Lewis or similar. Don't go anywhere else and don't leave until you have bought everything.

itshappening · 10/12/2017 01:16

I have got nice fairy lights from etsy, or bedroom lights made by A Little Lovely company, link to a couple of stockists below.

Agree with Dunelm or primark/matalan type place for blankets.

With all those things googling the item and clicking Google shopping should provide lots of links.

No need to panic, plenty of time left and delivery is so quick these days. This week I ordered something at just before 5 pm, when I tracked it early the next day it had arrived in London via Leeds and Croydon overnight and was due for delivery that morning. Check the order deadlines on websites but most will be fine for a long time yet. I have hardly started, but I appreciate at 30 weeks you want to get it done.

For your mum, what about a book? If you have a biggish bookshop nearby a browse might suggest something. Or is there a soundtrack or tv series she liked over the years that you could track down on cd/DVD online?

Jaffalong · 10/12/2017 06:36

gift ideas for women

smeerf · 10/12/2017 06:59

I'm 30 weeks too, just get everything online - I couldn't imagine trawling round the shops in December at this stage. Set aside a couple of hours and just power through it.

I got DP's godmother a lovely scarf from the official Joules outlet on eBay- only £15.

smeerf · 10/12/2017 07:00

Oh wait, i see you already got her a shawl. Ignore my suggestion!

TrashPanda · 10/12/2017 07:59

Thanks so much for all your help Flowers

I think for the girls I will definitely head to Dunelm for blankets and a little string of fairy lights. Although the cushions and clocks on that dotcomgiftshop are amazing. Will sneak a look when I pop round this week for colour ideas.

My mum is about the hardest person I know to buy for and all these suggestions are brilliant but she doesn't use or need any of them. She's attached to her iPad which she uses for reading, watching, recipes and music.

Gin is her favourite but not sure the budget stretches to an interesting one, we've got her Conker, William Chase, Bloom, TEA, Anno and the usual Hendricks over the last few years.

Thankfully my dad is sorted and DP and I don't buy for each other. My sister is training to be a midwife and I will probably end up getting her a voucher. We've got two sons 8 and 2 to buy for but have an idea for the bigger one. Little one will probably get coat and wellies.

How about Edinburgh Gin Rhubarb and Ginger - it's called a liquer but you drink it as you would normally with tonic, ice and lemon. It's lovely.
I'll link from Amazon but John Lewis etc sell it.
